I found out about Campral in a detox facility literature box. I was a liter a day vodka drinker 24/7. I immediately asked my Doctor to prescribe it for me because I knew that the detox was not enough for me because I had to leave a day early due to a family emergency. Campral worked for me sooner than what the literature said and was a lifesaver. I had no side affects and wished I could take i...

I have been taking campral 333 3x a day for a month and have been suffering severe side effects; violent diarrhea, extreme and powerful flatulence, stomach cramps so intense that my doctor thought I might have colitis, nose bleeds, blurred vision, fatigue, joint pain, headaches, increased anxiety, the list goes on! I have not felt any benefits from this drug. I do attend my AA meetings EVERY DAY, sometimes more than one a day. This helps me tremendously! The "counseling" there is free and it's with people who have "experience" with this disease and how to recover from it. I strongly recommend throwing this medicine in the trash and getting to the closest AA meeting as soon as possible! There is hope for you...without a bunch of drugs! I mean, haven't we been polluting our bodies long enough with drugs and alcohol? My best wishes to all of you...Blessings! Read More Read Less

I have been sober for approx.45 days now..THANK YOU to Campral and AA, and Treatment. I did stop taking it 3 times a day for a week, and fell into a deep depression...went back on the way it was to be taken, and I feel fantastic. NO more craving after drinking 18-24 beers a night! I am so grateful for this medication!

my husband just came out of 2 weeks of rehab last week. i told my husband about this drug he drank all his life he is 67. i told him to ask his primary dr. for a prescription, the doctor told him that he never prescriped this to anyone before. he did receive a prescription but we did'nt fill it yet. it cost $167 a month. i'm just wondering how long he will have to be on this drug?

I am a 31 yr old male, and a heavy drinker. While I have drank for over a decade my drinking lead to a dependency that this prescription will not help. It WILL help with cravings and I guess with urges to drink. What it WILL NOT do: help with sleeplessness, anxiety, mood swings(may even INCREASE them), it is bothersome to take 6-8 pills a day, the dosage oddly is "666"mg, hence it will not substitute for any medication to relieve the insanity you will feel ...but there is hope."A.A." on line forum at finnious5478 on utube and/or start your own. it will help with the long night... specially not that we have more time to think about not drinking.Read More Read Less

The directions for this drug say that one should be alcohol free befor taking this drug but does not say for how long. I'm a 25 year drinker who has had 3 to 4 Scotches per night for years, More on week ends. Drinking to this point has not had a negative effect on my life. I just no that I must quit because it can't be good to drink that much!!! I started Campral on Wed. and Thursday because I work 12 hour days and figured that by the time Friday night rolled around that I have 9 doses in me. It has been over a week now and I havn't had one drop. Sunday was diffacult for me as I'm off the hole day and thaught about drinking often. This drug has helped me a lot. The only side effect was some dizzyness the first couple of days. I'm also taking prozak and if anything they mix well together!! Hope that this rating halps someone!!!Read More Read Less

22 year old male, suffering from alcoholism for 6 years. been through detox 5 times, rehab twice. have to say this drug has helped me the most out of any of the other medications i have been on. the only reason why it didnt work, was because i stopped taking it. i suggest this drug to anyone who is in or is considering treatment for alcoholism. the first week i started back on * about 2 weeks ago* no cravings, no urges to drink, the thought of course came around occasionally, but the temptation and frustration of wanting to drink wasnt there, which felt amazing. the side affects i've experienced were some discomfort in stool, but thats it. fantastic drug. even if i was told it was a placebo, i'd still take it =) its worked that well for me. and i will still continue to stay on this medication.Read More Read Less

I have had a great experience with this drug. I have been taking it for 3 months. I have had no urge to drink and its very easy to swallow. I am a recovering alcoholic and if I didn't stop I would have died. I say anyone who suffers this incurable but manageable disease, talk to your doctor about it.

I started taking the full dose of Campral 3 weeks ago. It definitely reduced cravings, but I still slipped a few times mostly because I missed the lifestyle not alcohol itself. After the first full week I became nauseous and vomited a few times plus diarrhea and related GI symptoms. The doc cut the dose in half and that eliminated most of the symptoms except watery stools. I began to crave a normal BM in the second week and stopped it entirely intending to go back on once my stomach cleared up. The cravings came back right away and I slipped. I do go to meetings and outpatient rehab. Had a really bad problem with getting drunk. Went back on it before having a real satisfying solid BM and within the first dose noticed a reduction in cravings. Haven't drank since. I wish there was an alternative that didn't give me these side effects or a dietary way of counteracting them, but until I find one or the other its worth it to be so utterly relieved of cravings. Not everyone experiences side effects so don't be alarmed by my experience if you are reading this in order to decide if you want to try it.Read More Read Less

My husband has been taking this drug for 2 months and is still drinking. Unless you mentally want to give up alcohol, it will not help. He took it as part of a treatment program. He had minimal side effects so we were hopeful.

This drug has worked superbly, I still enjoy the pub but find it easy to drink non alcoholic drinks whilst others drink alcohol in front of me - I have no desire to join them ,I have taking it for 2 months now .It will be interesting to see if my cravings return when I stop taking the drug . I have no side affects whatsoever . I used to drink at least two bottles of wine everyday and had done for many years .

this is a wonder drug- have been 4.5 months sober once I finally decided to get myself to AA along with taking Campral. only side effect i have noticed is increase in gassiness. you can take this and still drink- it just won't work. for the commenters who complained that it "didn't work" because they still drank- you have to stop drinking yourself first and then let campral take care of lessening the cravings.

Campral worked wonderful against my cravings. I was like a new person -- not drinking, calm, happy. Unfortunately, I fall into the 1-2% that could not continue to take it due to severe diarrhea.

I missed a dose at lunch the other day and could tell very quickly--cravings started and I went home from work and took my meds and was okay in about 30 minutes. I am in therapy and going to AA every nite. The meetings also help....This medicine will not work if you cannot control the mental wanting of the alcohol! The wanting to escape your daily life.
