I found out about Campral in a detox facility literature box. I was a liter a day vodka drinker 24/7. I immediately asked my Doctor to prescribe it for me because I knew that the detox was not enough for me because I had to leave a day early due to a family emergency. Campral worked for me sooner than what the literature said and was a lifesaver. I had no side affects and wished I could take i...

I have been taking campral 333 3x a day for a month and have been suffering severe side effects; violent diarrhea, extreme and powerful flatulence, stomach cramps so intense that my doctor thought I might have colitis, nose bleeds, blurred vision, fatigue, joint pain, headaches, increased anxiety, the list goes on! I have not felt any benefits from this drug. I do attend my AA meetings EVERY DAY...

Three weeks on but also resumed daily alcohol use about same time. I notice no difference in cravings or usage but would like to keep trying, especially after detoxing again.

I started drinking alcoholically 7 years ago. I've been to rehabs, AA meetings 5X a week, and still relapsed every year. The cravings always took me down. Campral is a miracle drug. I've been on it for almost two months and I have had 0 cravings! I will take it as long as I can. Have had no real side effects except a little fatigue.

I tried everything to quit drinking wine.I went to AA and stayed sober for 4years, but didn't feel the program replaced alcohol/spirituality.I went to the best rehab facility in Europe for 3months and drank when came out.I despaired until I got Campral.I also got an anti-depressant called Paroxetine. My life has turned around finally. All my talking in AA did not really help me but it is useful to meet others who don't drink.

I have been a daily drinker, on & off the wagon.Developed right upper quadrant pain and elevated liver enzymes which scared me. I found it too hard to stop drinking- I come from a long line of type A, successfully functioning alcoholics. Campral has helped alot, but I have developed joint/muscle pain. This is a problem because I was substituting running and lifting again to replace my drinking, and the joint pain makes it difficult to work out. Afraid to stop the Campral- I do not want to drink again- Read More Read Less

Campral along with AA and counselling saved my life. I had no side effects with Campral. I drank for almost 40 years, with at least 20 of these years drinking alcoholicly. I began my day with a drink, drank most of the day and ended the day passed out with a drink. After trying all the "tricks" to stop drinking, i.e., only beer, only on weekends, water in between drinks, I took my doctor's advice and started taking campral and attending AA meetings for support. I took campral for 13 months, never having or desiring a drink. Now, five years later!!! I love my sober life, I love me, my family loves me and I have an extended family through AA that loves me!!! I am grateful to my doctor for being persistent and explaining the medication to me and for prescribing this to me. I can't explain how the medication works other than the desire for a drink was very weak, and eventually the desire was gone. I was able to concentrate, focus, remember better. Of course this all came gradually - but it happened. I highly recommend this medication to anyone that is serious about stopping the use of alcohol. Read More Read Less

I took this for two months, then went off of it. I was feeling very depressed and crying a lot. I was also thinking about alcohol again and wanting to drink (angry about having to stop). I started taking it again about two weeks ago and I think I feel better. I still need to go to AA but do have a doctor who monitors my meds.

I can drink 10-11 beers a day, in just 3-4 hours. I have been on campral for 10 weeks and still drinking every few days. Going to ask my doc for something else since this is not working for me.

Campral worked for me sooner than what the literature said and was a lifesaver. I had no side affects and wished I could take it forever but there comes a time when you have to put the drug down and fight for your life without this wonderful aid. It is a miracle drug and I recommend it to anyone wanting to quit drinking. I also recommend AA and outpatient counseling along with the Campral because not only do you need to stop drinking, you need to admit you are an alcoholic, find out what your triggers are and resolve the issues that make you as an alcoholic relapse. You also need to learn that it is a disease and it is not your fault, but it is your fault if you do not seek help and learn how to stop drinking. My favorite slogan in AA which I highly recommend for learning the tools is "Move a muscle, change a thought". That was what I had to keep in mind. Another is, if you do have an urge, rat yourself out to someone before you drink because it will help the urge pass. Good luck to all you who pursue this journey, it is a hard journey but well worth the effort! Godspeed!Read More Read Less

I drank for 40 years when I finally decided that I was tired of feeling like I was going to die. I checked myself in to a hospital with a rehab unit and stayed there for 7 days, without any kind of withdrawal symptons, amazingly. On the last day, the doctor asked me if I would like to try campral; I think it was relatively new at that time. I started taking campral and haven't had a drink in five years and don't even crave it. All my friends and my doctor can't believe that I was able to do it! Thank God for campral and the doctor who prescribed it!Read More Read Less
