Finally a drug that gives relief from my migraines. Although I had to increase the dose to 10 mg, it works every time. Only rarely do I need to take a second pill after 2 hours. My migraines are 3-day affairs, so you can imagine the great relief - I have my life back!

My daughter,(whom is 14)was prescribed this after trying about 15 other different meds. Nothing has worked for her so far and her neurologist is lost on what to try next. We are scheduled for a botox session and hopefully that will give her some relief. She has a continuous headache that never goes away but some days she has a migrane and even after 2 doses of this med. she got no relief. She was ...

The medicine is easy to take but I have experienced neck and jaw tightness and dizziness to the point I have to lay down, after about 30 minutes I get very sick to my stomache. It is very effective at controlling the migraine but the side effects are in some aspects worse than the headache itself.

This is one of the few drugs to help me. I can't always function after 40 minutes of taking it though. Dizzy, tired and pins/needles feeling in my legs but better than bricks against my head pain.

Side effects with Maxalt are the worst I have experienced. Side effects with Maxalt are; heart throbbing or pounding, trouble breathing, drowsiness, dizziness, low/decrease in energy and vomiting. If we take Maxalt at work and experience symptoms, how productive are we going to be, IF we are able to continue working? Yes, the headache may have been stopped, but the rest of the side effects can remain for longer than seventy two hours and our lives will be disrupted. The more “infrequent” side effects of Maxalt include; slowing of the heartbeat, abnormal heart rhythms, increased heart rate, chest pain, chest tightness, numbness and tingling sensation, depression, eye irritation, high blood pressure, incomplete or infrequent bowel movements, joint pain, muscle spasm, muscle stiffness, muscle pain, involuntary quivering, temporary redness, nausea, difficulty swallowing, gas, diarrhea, change in feeling of body temperature, and confusion. I have experienced the less common side effect of slowing of the heartbeat after taking Maxalt and it was one of the worst things I experienced. My resting heart rate dropped to around 40 bpm (not normal for me) and if I moved in the slightest, I became extremely dizzy and nauseous. I did call my doctor during this experience and his advice was to take another and if the symptoms did not subside within another hour, to go to the hospital to be evaluated. The symptoms did not go away and I was sick for an additional two days after the dosage. Many will say that almost any medication can have these side effects, but is that the standard of acceptance we have come to? To control our migraines, we will accept that these risks involved are “normal?” Maxalt does do its job in most cases by stopping the migraine from progressing. It is easily accessible as well as fast and comes in the simplest form of release. But, those are all of the positive things I have to say about this medication. For me, the negative outweighs the few positive. Read More Read Less

This drug has the potential to improve my migraine/sinus headaches. I haven't been on this long, but it's been pretty effective. Time will tell if I have to use other headache medicines to aid with. By the way, my doctor told me to take this by putting the pill under my tongue and letting it start to dissolve and then swallow with water.

Without treatment my migraines are dibilitating. I suffer through hours of crippling pain, blackouts, violent vomiting. Maxalt alleviates the pain and nausea, and allows me to function. Unfortunately it is SO EXPENSIVE I can no longer purchase the medice. ($4400 for 90 doses!)

I have chronic headaches that some doctors describe as migraines and others say "tension". Whatever. I just know how I hurt and how I feel. My latest treatment is Maxalt. It doesn't work at all for me. I've taken one, waited two hours and taken another. It doesn't have any effect at all on my headache.

Maxalt has helped me when other meds could not. I chronically suffer from migraines and am on Topamax as a preventive, but for those break through migraines, Maxalt works great!

I suffer from chronic cervical migraine headaches. I used Maxalt for years and found occasional relief from the headaches. The main reason I am writing this review was I wanted to share my experience/side effect. It made me extremely depressed, blue.I know this to be a fact because after 24 hrs of taking the drug I would feel fine! Bad, sad feelings went away. If this is the only drug that helps your migraines then take it otherwise find another drug. Currently I am taking Frova. There is very little side effects from this medication except a little sleepy. Read More Read Less

I've used Maxalt for migraines for years and it works great if I can get it when I first feel the symptons. If I wait until it's full blown, then I have to take Tramadol with it for it to work. I recently started taking the generic version and I've noticed that it makes me significantly more sleepy than the non-generic form.

If I use this before full blown migraine hits, it wipes it away. I just started using generic version and it makes me much more sleepy than I'm used to with non-generic form

Maxalt on its own doesn't help me. I MUST use another pain med for it to work. I also take a prescribed pain med with the Maxalt and then my headache will go away. I used to take a differnt prescribed migraine med, for about 10 years, but it seemed to stop helping me about 2 years ago so I was put on Maxalt.
