As a young adult, I developed hormone-related perioral dermatitis on the facial skin around my mouth. Prescription cortisone and oil-free facial products severely irritated this itchy, red, pimply, sore rash. Then, I began being treated with 8 weeks of tetracycline by a new dermatologist, who recommended Selsun Gold for the scabby dandruff-like "stuff" that seemed to be associated. After several months of my condition disappearing and reappearing and having to go back on the antibiotics, I surmised that if the Selsun worked on my head, it MAY work on my dermatitis. I followed directions on the bottle, which are described in this article, and voila! NO UGLY RASH. I never had to take antibiotics or use cortisone again. Every time an itchy little "pimple" appeared, I'd dab a bit of Selsun on and it would go away. My son also used it for a severe case of tinea/athlete's foot. Be careful, however, as if it is left on the skin or applied full strength or too strong, it WILL burn your skin.
