management or monitoring precaution: Hepatic-Maximum recommended dose of 20mg/day for elderly >60 years or hepatic impairment. Cardiovascular-Dose dependant QT prolongation is established; elderly are at increased risk with decreased drug clearance. Correct hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia before initiating treatment. Not recommended after recent acute MI or during uncompensated heart failure. Endocrine-Increased risk for hyponatremia due to SIADH. Neuro/Psych-Increased risk of falls in the elderly with higher doses.
Giving citalopram HBR to a child under 12:
Severe Precaution: Possible increased suicidal ideation and attempt with underlying major depression. Monitor weight and growth rate.
