My doctor recommends me taking this shot for a common cold. Is this correct, I have been told it is not for that?

I am being treated for MRSA received in the hospital after surgery. I had to have another surgery 3 1/2 weeks after my surgery to clean the area out. Now my husband has to give me an infusion of this every day for at least 6 weeks. CDC is involved and sends out one week's supply for us and they are the ones that will need to clear me. This rates down pretty low in my estimate!

I've had 3 injections within a 3 week period and although my ear infection is cleared up I am experiencing awful stomach pain, nausea and diarrhea. The injection sites are still painful to the touch. I won't ever use this medicine again.

In a period of two days I went from being fine, to walking into the Dr's office on a 90 degree day wrapped in a blanket with the chills/sweats, 103 degree fever, chest pain, coughing, and the worst headache and body pain imaginable. I could barely walk into the office I felt so horrible. The Dr. told me I had pneumonia and that I had 2 options, get the 2 shots of recephin, or get admitted to the hospital. I choose the shots, and by the next day all I had to deal with was the heavy chest and coughing which is expected for awhile. Way better than being in the hospital. Even though I am still a little sore from the shots. I'm not gonna lie, they are not pleasant but they do work!Read More Read Less

Was treated for a barthilon abscess. I had this shot, which was extremely painful. When I was done with the visit I went to the pharmacy to fill meds and became very ill. Between this and the other antibiotics, I'm still having nausea and vomiting and it's been 6 days now.

The most painful shot in the history of mankind! Will be hospitalized before taking that shot again. I read some reviews where dr mixed lidocane with injection to reduce pain. Clearly my dr didn't do that for me. Demand the lidocane.

My 6yo daughter came down with a fever and not feeling well in general on Friday, The dr. is closed for the weekend so I took her on Monday they tested her for strep and it came back as a slight positive. The Dr put her on augmentin and said bring her back Wed. if it is not better. Needless to say with the antibiotic and piggybacking motrin and tylenol nothing was working. I thought her fever broke tues. night well to my dismay she started the fever again in the morning so I took her back in. The dr gave her the rocephin shot with lidocane, she said it hurt but within 1-2 hrs she was asking me if she could clean the toyroom, wash the dishes, sweep the kitchen floor and mop it!!! AMEN for rocephin Now previously about 3 weeks ago my 2yo had scarlett fever and pneumonial she got the shot and it worked great with her also!! I am a nurse and I would strongly suggest the rocephin shot it is wonderful!!!Read More Read Less

I was given ROCEPHIN intravenously at the ER for a UTI. It was terrible. The first 3 hours I had a rapid heart rate, and then 2 days later, I had confusion, agitation dizziness, slurred speech, disorientation. IT WAS TERRIBLE I COULDN'T EVEN THINK STRAIGHT.

3 MRSA "abcesses" that became bacteremia. Other ABOs given along with IV Rocephin for 3-5 days (back and forth to the hospital so was not admitted) cleared sepsis and helped heal the abcesses with minimal scarring. Though needed to be drained and packed for 7-10 post treatment

Went to the Dr on Sunday with very sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, and lots of mucus. Dr prescribed me Zithromax, as well as zyrtec D and Nasonex. Tuesday comes, and the symptoms have actually worsened...now having fevers, can barely swallow. Went back to Dr, and he prescribed on top of the other meds some Hydromet. It seemed to relieve the pain for a couple of hours. Then today, I woke, and I couldn't swallow anything. Still had fever, and swollen lymph nodes, still lots of mucus. Went back to Dr today(friday), and he finally gave me a shot of Depoinject(steroid) and a shot of rocephin. Came home and about 2 hrs later throat swelling was already reducing. Have yet to see the remaining swelling go away, hopefully when I wake in the morning. Would love to drink some apple juice! :)Read More Read Less

Went to my family doctor on Monday (10/12/09) with very sore throat, body aches and 102 fever. Was diagnosed with H1N1 and prescribed Tamiflu. Was given 2 strep tests, the first one came up negative at their office, the second had to be sent off (will update the results Monday if positive). Although the Tamiflu worked very well on my body aches, my throat was getting much worse... the pain intensified and it felt like I was swallowing glass and swelling so much I couldn't swallow anything but liquid, but breathing fine. On the fourth day dealing with my throat, I went to a Wellstar Urgent Care (my doctor's office was closed) and they took a strep test again (neg), a mono test (neg) and a CBC (?) blood test which was positive for bacterial and viral infection. I received a steroid injection along with a Rocephin injection (with Lidocane). I was so desperate for relief, the shots did not even bother me. I felt so much better by that night! I woke up the next day and the pain and swelling were nearly gone!! I had not slept in days until that night. The shot was so worth it to me. I was also prescribed Augmenton, which I start on today. But just from having this shot, along with the steroid, I feel like I am nearly back to normal.Read More Read Less

I rushed my youngest child to the ER with a fever over 105, knowing this six year old had just recieved a hep A shot only three days earlier. Since the fever was high they did x-rays, blood work and the q-tip test both for the nose and throat. I was told one of the tests came back postive for Influenza B Viral Antigen or the flu, this shot was broken down to two shots for each leg. Now almost 24 hours later my child still refuses to stand or walk on their own and the muscles are so tight I don't see how it can work and potty trips are very hard when my child refuses to stand for the removal and replacement of clothing. I have found most reviews helpful but for someone who dislikes shots this was not my ideal treatment and this person left the ER with 5 new meds to take on top of the shot.Read More Read Less
