20 years ago I had the left side thyroid removed because of a growing non-cancerous goiter. No medication needed. 5 weeks ago I had the right side removed for the same reasons. Started taking L-thyroxine 125mcg in the hospital. It's a hard drug to take with all the restrictions. Currently I am taking it at night before bed. 4hrs after eating dinner and taking 2 antacids. I was born in South Africa and my paediatrician picked up that there was a thyroid imbalance in my body. I have been on thyroid medication from birth having been born without a thyroid at all. As an infant I went for monthly injections until I was able to take the tablet form. As a child I once climbed up my parents shelves at home and ate almost half a container of tablets and was rushed to hospital to get my stomach pumped. I then started taking Eltroxin at varied doses depending on my bodies requirements at check-up stages. I moved to the UK and am now on Levothroxin 2 x 100mg tabs daily. The only issue I have with this medication is that I forget to take it now and again and when I do forget I become more forgetful, sluggish and tired. There is nothing to fear about this medication and if you have been prescribed it, it is for good reason unless you're and idiot trying to lose weight which really is stupid because you are perfect the way you are. Started taking L-thyroxine 125mcg in the hospital. It's a hard drug to take with all the restrictions. Currently I am taking it at night before bed. 4hrs after eating dinner and taking 2 antacids. The pill causes upper stomach pain if I don't take the antacids. The pain feels like I just did 150+ situps and lasts all day. My stomach constantly feels extended even though I've lost a couple of pounds. Other symptoms are a bad metal taste in my mouth and increase in thirst. I have always drank a great deal of water and now even more. As far as energy & mood goes there are times with I feel like I've had a couple glasses of wine. Continue to eat health but seem to only tolerate smaller more frequent meals. Before I was always a 3 meal a day person. I appreciate reading all the reviews. It has been very helpful. Will be seeing my endocrinologist at my 6 week mark after surgery and have MANY questions, concerns and alternatives to discuss with him. Read More Read Less

I have been taking thyoxine for the last three months. Since then ive had loss of wax production in one ear also constant ringing and itching, continuous sore throat and lethargy. I dont know if any of these are regular side effects but if they have certainly intensified since my treatment began.
