This medication has been a "God-send". I have been on it for about two years. The very first day I took it, the diarrhea was non-existent. If I happen to forget one day, I know it. It has given me freedom to not have to know where a bathroom is all the time. Very embarrassing when out with others, not anymore. If I would say one thing, I have noticed a little weight gain since being on the med, anyone else notice this?

this medication works very well to stop the chronic diarrhea, but i have late afternoon uncomfortable bloating and gas. i have not found anything that help. has anyone else experience the same thing?

After a vagotomy and gallbladder removal 15 yrs ago, I began to have chronic diarrhea, never being able to eat without discomfort, and on and on. No doctor recommended this treatment for me. I found it by doing my own research on Internet. When I came across this blog, it was the defining moment for me to beg my doctor to let me try it. He was more than willing and after two weeks, Cholestyramine is my new best friend. I only wish I had started taking it before a fabulous trip we took the week prior to my finding this blog. I have suffered with chronic diahrrea for much of my life. It got worse after gall bladder surgery. I thought that this medication would be the answer to my prayers, and for the first three months or so it was. Now my diahrrea has come back and I am going to try two packets a day to see if it will help.

This drug has changed my life. After 20 years of chronic diarrhea, I was finally diagnosed with bile salt malabsorption. I was prescribed one packet per day to start and after approximately 5 days it began working and my diarrhea was a thing of the past! I cannot describe how much better I feel and how liberating it is not to have to know where the bathroom is located everytime you go somewhere. A wonder drug, truly!

As a previous user of Cholestyramine, I find it necessary to emphasize my terrible experience. I used it for about 4 months as directed but encountered remarkable adverse effects, including passing out during my failed attempts of bowel movement due to intestinal tract blockage. Consequently, I needed to do Upper GI Endoscopy as well as Open Heart Surgery. Pulges were found in my artery vessels and advised to be produced by severe strain during bowel movement.

I have only just picked up my prescription for this drug so I'm not sure how it will work but hoping for the best after having severe IBS for 11 years. After that many years of dreading the trip to the bathroom I'm hoping it will work! Just wondering what time of day is best to take it? I'm on no other meds other than the contraception pill that I take at night.

My Cardiologist started with 4 grams daily, then increased to 8 grams daily. Each pill is 1 gram. For the first time, my combined cholesterol count was finally below 200. I've been taking this drug for 3 1/2-4 years with consistent results. I'm motivated to follow the DASH diet; not as difficut as I would have thought now.

I had my gallbladder removed November 2010. My X/doctor told me that I wouldnt have any troubles. I was frustrated and completely in disbelief that he said that. I clearly had major issues from the start. I spent seven and a half months with constant diarrhea. I began taking the Cholestyramine Oral in June 2011 and it has made a tremedous difference. The problem is how long to you have to take it? My current doctor said you never know unless you just take yourself off the medication. WARNING TO ALL...Let me tell you...I will never do that again. I was off the meds for three days recently, and almost ended up in the hospital. I have been using the powder for over a year due to colitis. It has been wonderful! I have tried at least 10 other pills and none have worked for my diarrhea but this. It does not cause constipation and I am sensitive to all meds. The only side effect I have had is sensitive teeth.

I suffered for years from chronic diarrhea with no relief from other drugs. Some drugs are mood-altering and I am in recovery for awhile now and did not want to relapse. This drug immediately stopped the diarrhea and I can tell if I forgot to take it. Just found out from my doc yesterday it lowers cholesterol, so I am very pleased!!!!!

I had been suffering with diarrhea for at least 8 months everytime I ate something. Been to my regular dr. with no results after numerous tests. Referred to Gastro and was perscribed this only after talking with him and that I had my galbladder removed 14 yrs ago. Scheduled for a colonoscopy and in the mean time started with this just after the 1st time I took it I was amazed that it worked. Had my procedure and found nothing (thank goodness!!) I have only been using this for about 3 weeks, but in that time it has changed my life. I have struggled with Diarrhea for the last 25 years. I can't believe how it has helped me. I will continue to use it.

will this medication cause constipation?

I was hospitalized for severe dehydration due to continual diarrhea. This medication started working immediately and the severe stomach cramps completely disappeared.

After having my gallbladder removed, I suffered for several years with diarrhea after eating ANYTHING! This medicine was a miracle, it truly changed my life!

After having my gall bladder removed, I was having problems with frequent diarrhea (up to 5-7 times in a morning.) Now, I am taking this each night and the diarrhea is a thing of the past. One or two times I forgot to take the medicine and was right back in the bathroom the next morning. I no longer forget.
