T-6 para from a MC accident. On 4 different oral anti spasticity meds prior to the pump. Those made me drowsey and unfunctional. With the pump I get meds directly into my spinal cord and dose is lower. I have now been able to stand and walk with a walker approx 35 ft. and gettting better. We are still slowly increasing the dose to find the right mix for me. I love it and highly recommend it ...

suffered an SCI in 1994. In 1997 I had my first pump implanted. It has been 25 years and I am now living with my fifth pump. It has been a miracle drug for me thru the years. I would not have had the quality of life without Baclofen ITB. I'm now 74 years old.

This was placed because of spasticity associated with PPMS and I was not tolerating oral baclofen. Since having the pump implanted, I have done well with spasticity but I started having dizzy spells within a month of surgery. The dizzy spells have gotten worse as we have increased the dosage. The nausea has become so bad during these episodes that I lose the entire day. It used to be only once every other month or so but now it is a few days per month. When I tell my pump doctor, he will not even listen. He says, "No way, no how can that pump make you sick." END OF DISCUSSION. Something is causing the dizzy and nausea spells that started 2 months after having the pump installed. I asked Medtronic and they will not give me an answer, they tell me to talk to my pump doctor. You can see where this is going. The whole situation makes me long for the relief that death will bring. Read More Read Less

Was great when I started it, but 2 weeks in started to have an allergic reaction. Face a and neck started to itch and confusion set in. Missed work and almost forgot to pick my son from school.

I had the pump installed about 4 years ago in an effort to reduce the amount of oral baclofen I was taking. I thought based on the test this would be the answer. It never worked as expected. I had to continuously increase the dosage to feel any type of relief, but I still had to take oral baclofen. It also is very cumbersome in the location it is in, and I lose some flexibility having to schedule refills. The drug is also very expensive delivered this way. The ease of use would not be a factor if the drug were more effective. I'm not sure what the answer is at this point.Read More Read Less

Take for my spasticity. Drug worked great for a year then they increased it from 60mg per day to 70. Worked great for 6 months and it was increased to 80. Worked great for 3 months and increased to 90mg per day. Has stopped working and neither of us want to take more than the average dose of 80. Don't know what is next but that first year was great.

Due to spasticity, 80 milligrams baclofen daily increased battles of pneumonia. Dosage lowered by Doctor controlled spasms/contractures until recently. Unsure of increasing daily dosage or starting a new medication to control spasms? Sustained spinal cord injury 30 years ago and realize I have probably outlive my life expectancy. Doesn't matter, I do not want to leave are with a number of contractures! Seeking alternative medications.

My daughter has had an implanted Baclofen pump for 14 years now-she just had it replaced because of the battery life was near the end-Doctor seen us on a Friday for a pump refill-and informed us the pump only had less than 30 days of battery life left-the Neuro Surgeon scheduled her Out Patient surgery for that following Tuesday-Everything went very well-spent a half a day there-between the drive & surgery-recovery from sedation & drive back home-only a half a day! The only thing that could be approved on is the access of a Doctor who is trained to do these refills-We have to drive a little over an hour to get to the appointment-It needs to be more accessible...as far as the other poster saying something about the medication and missing your appmnts-you don't miss a pump refill appmnt-simpla as that-you can schedule them ten days-2 weeks before your alarm date...Read More Read Less

I have MS. spasms and muscle tenseness causes back pain. Baclofen has been more effective than other drugs including Tizanadine. I have had some dizziness related to the Baclofen

I have recently diagnosed cervical spinal stenosis & cervical dystonia from stenosis - Worst issue is the head jerk (cervical dystonia) and pain/stiffness - I've only been on baclofin for 3 days and I can already feel the difference. I am far more relaxed and do not have debilitating neck/back pain to the same extent. The cervical dystonia has slowed significantly in the last few days & I have hopes that it will cease altogether once I have been on the medication for a while. For me Baclofen has been maybe not a life saver, but probably a job saver. Read More Read Less

My situation seems to have been initially related to cervical stenosis (C2-6). Subsequent to corrective surgery, beg3an oral baclofen to assist in walking as well as reduction in evening sleep-depriving spasms. Trial direct spinal injection was very successful and lead to implant of pump. Recent adjustment to specifically target evening hours has been great. Does seem to be some downside interaction between the Baclofen and anti-depressants though.

I have MS and found that the pump is 100 times better than taking oral baclofen. Have pump about 8 years with no problems. Had to get new one after 5 years because of battery life.

I spent four years on the oral baclofen before going to the pump. I have more energy, better movement, and i feel better than I have in 10 years. the refill procedure was easy and took about 3-5 minutes. If anyone is having trouble making up their mind about the pump and the baclofen IT, it is worth it! the surgery for the implant is easy and was a one night stay in the hospital.

My 12 year old daughter just had her second pump installed, due to battery life. She has spastic dyplegia cerebral palsy. This drug has made such an amazing difference in her life. It controls her spasticity and has made walking with assitance possible. The new pump is much smaller and will need to be filled less often. I can't imagine our life without it : )

I am a T6 complete para due to a MVA. This drug has done wonders for my spasms. Before having the pump, I could not take enough oral baclofen to even somewhat control the spasms. I had them so bad I knocked a hole in the wall with my head. Some warnings I would give if considering a pump implant: may have problems with spinal fluid leakage when catheter delivering medicine is inserted into spinal column, very little room for flexibility on refill date, and as pump gets older and you get close to refill date and your medicine volume is low you may start having problems with the pump delivering the right amount of medicine. The withdrawal symptoms of this medicine are horrible (itching, stinging, and burning of your skin and of course return of spasms) so do not miss a refill or let your volumes get low as the pump gets older, and if you have to get off of the medicine, allow plenty of time for your volumes to be gradually decreased instead of just going cold turkey.Read More Read Less
