I've been using Avapro for about 4 years with great success.

This medication appears to be designed for use by men. After reading all of the reviews this medication only works well for men (other then the ED)then for women, in general. There should be a BP med specifically designed for women with little or no side effects.

I've tried them all. Diag with malignant Hypertension even after 5 way bypass five years ago. Been on every combination you can think of. Am now taking 300mg of Avapro and 50mg of HCTZ once a day. One medication in morning and one in evening. Average BP has been 110/51. Downside is that it took 7 weeks for med to stabilize. Doc told me to have patience and I'm glad I did. No side effects I can feel. It's great to feel normal again.

Cost is the main concern I have with the Avapro. I've been taking 150mg and have had very few, if any side effects. Now that I read so many men have ED, I have to wonder if my lack of drive as a female is caused by the Avapro or just getting old..LOL

Ever since I started taking Avapro 300mg which I feel is TOO HIGH A DOSE TO BEGIN WITH, I HAVE HAD CONSTANT DRY COUGH BOTH DAY AND NIGHT. I had only minor HBP and question my DR prescribing this for me. He tends to prescribe whatever the Drug Reps are pushing, Expensive Meds, even though I have Rx Insurance. I PLAN TO DISCONTINUE THIS AVAPRO AND ASK MY DR FOR MED HE PRECSRIBED for HBP before I lost 100 pounds!!!

I am 67 y/o and take norvasc and avapro once daily BUT found my pressure very elevated in far less than the 24 hr period over which both of these drugs are to be effective, according to the literature. Splitting the dosage is what I then tried but found my pressure, while better, was a bit too low...So NOW I am removing avapro and using only norvasc to see if I can maintain without it...I will take norvasc 5 mg. twice daily. I regard neither medication EASY TO USE in view of their 24 hour claims.Read More Read Less

I have been on blood pressure for over 20 years. I started at age 40 with Inderal LA 160 mg. over a period (2-5 yrs), my doctor added maxzide and a baby aspirin..this did not quite get my BP where she wanted it either... but when she added 75 mg of Avapro it helped the level of my BP to get to normal. I have since been able to gradually drop from 160 mg of Inderal to 60 mg. Our (me and my Dr)goal is to completely go off the Inderal LA. I was always tired with all 3 of the prescription medications at first ..but after about 6 months...it did get better. Read More Read Less

I've been on Avapro 300 for more than 8 years. My insurance forced me to try a cheaper drug(lisinopril) but it didn't work nearly as well and I had cough and dry throat which caused me to lose sleep. Avapro has had no side effects for all these years and I'm happy to be back on it. It is expensive but sleep is worth every penny!

Been on 300mg for 2 weeks after switching from Diovan. Blood pressure went from 190/110 to 130/70 in 24 hours, so it does work well; however, my side effects are heart palpitations (pulse is 126-130 as soon as I wake up in the morning), severe heartbearn, nausea and dry heaves, major loss of appetite, tiredness and sluggishness and decrease in sexual desire. Changing to half a pill per day to see how it works.

I have been on this drug for approx. 4 months. It was not effective when I took it at night. I take it in the morning and my blood pressure is good 'til evening when it shoots up to 150/80 about 10pm. I take 150mg. Tried 300mg but it gave me palpations, general chest discomfort and severe headaches; so I am now again on the 150mg. Will probably have to change to something to lower my pressure in the evening as well. I am having muscles discomfort, but don't know if its from the drug. Avapro is too expensive; there needs to be a generic.Read More Read Less
