I had the outbreak on a Monday and I went that afternoon to get my abreva. I applied it right after I bought it and I can say it worked immediately. The next morning I could see the difference. If only we could have came up with this years ago and didnt have to use that stinky campho phenique...yuck

I asked my husband to pick up some cold sore medicine because I felt a coldsore coming on and I did not want it to become a full blown blister, very important as I had customer interviews for three hours each of two days the weekend coming up. I asked him to pick up the blistex viles that I had previously purchased because they worked effectively and I never got the blisters. Well the CVS pharma...

Doesn't really work and is white which makes it visible when you put it on.

Completely inefective. I've always used Zovirax and decided to give this over-the-counter a try. Not only blisters did not heal but others appeared while using this product. It's a complete waste of money.

I have used Abreva in the past according to the directions and found it to reduce the size and udration to heal a cold sore. I started getting a cold sore 1 1/2 days ago and used Abreva. After 36 hrs of use, I have gone from a cold sore to what appears to be a chemical burn far worse than any cold sore. Every place on my upper and lower lip that was exposed to the Abreva. Don't know why the sudden chemical reaction to a product I've used before but just hoping that the burns won't scar. Read More Read Less

I noticed that abreva did shorten my cold sore time from a normal 2 weeks down to about 5-7 days. My cold sore was still big and weeping. The best treatment I have found is acyclovir. My cold sore was gone in 2-3 days.

I have been useing this for 3 days and i don't see a difference. I started using it not long after i felt the tingle in my lip. I don't think it works any better than other otc treatments. I personally liked the results with the Campho-Phenique which at least seems to dry it up quicker.

I have only used Abreva for two days. (I tried another less expensive product first with no improvement.) I applied the ointment several times a day, admittedly more than the stated '5 times'. Earlier today I noticed my face was itching (as if I has somehow gotten fiberglass insulation particles on my skin). Tonight my face itches so bad I can't sleep! I looked up side effects to this med and saw that one side effect can be itching skin, however it seldom occures (guess I'm one of the chosen few). Anyway, I have to admit that inspite of the itchy face the cold sore looks alot better tonight and most of the swelling is gone. I've decided to cut back on my applications and see if the itch goes away. Sure hope so! This appears to be a very good product to treat the miserable herpes virus and I would recommend Abreva to anyone who suffers with it.Read More Read Less

Abreva protects "healthy" cells from becoming infected so the sooner you apply this the less severe your sore should be. I always have some on hand and start applying when i feel a tingle.

I've suffered with cold sores for a long time and have been using this product for about two years now. My cold sores used to last almost two weeks and the were big and painful. Now I use this product whenever I feel the burning in my lips the day before and apply it 5 times a day and they go away in 5 to 7 days. It just is a little to pricey.

By the time I started using Abreva my cold-sore was already a week old, huge and painful. I started Abreva on a Saturday and by Thursday most of the cold-sore was gone. Considering what it looked like and the size, I was pretty suprised and happy with the results at that point.

I used it when I first saw signs of a cold sore, I was not happy about the price however. It turned out that the medicine kept the swelling down and made it barely visible, I would say it is well worth the price. In order for it to work you must stick with it, and apply it at least 5 times a day and don't mess with your cold sore. Also it applies on white and dries clear which makes me quite happy socially. I like it, I will buy it again next time I have one it actually does work.

I keep abreva on hand so at the first sign of a sore I apply it. I use a small amount many times a day if I eat I reapply. In the past I would have sores around my mouth, now I can usually catch it before it gets bad.. Would not be without this drug.

does not help heal the cold sore as far as I am concerned, and it is rather expensive for an over the counter drug.

I used it in between 4 and 6 times a day in moderate uses. Once it was gone I still had a cold sore for a few more days. I wouldn't recommend it. Carmex works the best!

I put it on it made the cold sore to spread and it went all around me mouth. then I developed a small allergic reaction to the medicine my lips swelled up as well as my nasal passages. I would say if used in the very begining of a cold sore then it might the cure.

It is a little embarrasing having a cold sore, so I tried Abreva. I applied it 5 times a day and it seemed to prolong the healing. It brought it out and made my lip swell very badly, and it didn't go away any faster.
