I had the outbreak on a Monday and I went that afternoon to get my abreva. I applied it right after I bought it and I can say it worked immediately. The next morning I could see the difference. If only we could have came up with this years ago and didnt have to use that stinky campho phenique...yuck

I asked my husband to pick up some cold sore medicine because I felt a coldsore coming on and I did not want it to become a full blown blister, very important as I had customer interviews for three hours each of two days the weekend coming up. I asked him to pick up the blistex viles that I had previously purchased because they worked effectively and I never got the blisters. Well the CVS pharma...

I woke up in the morning with redness at the site and a very slight bump that I could tell would soon form into a blister. I immediately applied Abreva to the site as instructed, and continued re-applying every 40 minutes or so within 3 hours the cold sore erupted into a full blown multi-blister sore. I quickly removed what ever was there and began to apply Zovirax. I have used it before but wanted to give Abreva a try. I WILL THROW AWAY WHATEVER I HAVE BOUGHT AND WILL NEVER USE ABREVA Again. It literally made it 100 times worse. Read More Read Less

I have twice tried Abreva and neither time has it worked at all for me. Pretty expensive for a tiny tube. I will definitely remember next time not to bother.

It shortens the duration and size of the cold sore in its tracks. From my experience, it's important to begin applying it immediately for best results. If you wait until the cold sore is large, it's far less effective. If you get it early, it stops growing and hence less blister and scabbing. I get a cold sore around once or twice a year, usually stress or weather induced. Abbreva has been really effective for me, and nothing else ever was. Use it frequently in the beginning, but be cautious because i think it has mild side effects like nauseau and insomnia if you use too much - ymmv.Read More Read Less

It does not work for me. The time frame for the cold sore to heal is the same, with or without the medication. And the cost was $34.00, for nothing, nothing!

I usually get a cold sore about once per year. They always last a week to 10 days, then another week or so to heal. I used it the first time last year and it quite growing after two days, took about a week to heal. I just got another cold sore and had the exact same results. Have tried lysine and every other type of "cure" with no noticeable results. Everyone should try this at least once if they suffer with cold sores, IMHO.

Abreva works for me most of the time. I count on it! The new pump is a nuisance..first it won't squirt, then it spews more than is needed ,therefore I have to buy another one. (planned?) Please go back to the tiny tube!

I am now 100% sure that Abreva makes cold sores worse. I've done an experiment where I did not use it and simply use lysine pillsnot only did the blisters not come but there was no pain. Each and every time I've used Abreva I've ended up with large blisters and pain. Do not use Abreva. Simply by very high-quality lysine and use that.

Abreva maybe cuts 1 or 2 days off healing time for me. Maybe, hard to tell. What you should really use are Lysine Supplements. Seriously people, it's a miracle pill. I get huge breakouts on my nose that lasts 10 days to 2 weeks, about 2-3x a year. This was my first time using Super Lysine (from whole foods, 10$) and I could cry I'm so happy, it's life altering. Day 5 and it's completely healed. By day 3, I stopped feeling like mutant and felt comfortable in public. I can't believe I suffered for so long, I really want to spread the knowledge so no one has to continue to feel the feelings of depression and insecurity that I felt for years. I used 6000mg a day in the acute phase, and now I'm dropping to 500-1000mg a day for about a week to make sure it's gone. I only get cold sores 2-3x a year so I will stop using it in a week. However, I've read people take small doses daily and it's completely eradicated breakouts. Also that taking them at the first signs of an impending breakout will stop it dead in its tracks. I can only speak for my first time experience that it is the only thing that's worked for me during an actual, HUGE, breakout. Seriously, drop everything, buy these pills. Read More Read Less

The second I realized I was getting a fever blister I threw on my clothes and ran to the pharmacy to buy this medication. I followed the directions for use to the letter. The only thing it ultimately did for me was to make my wallet $20 lighter. I'm on Day #8 of this cold sore and still look terrible.

I tried Abreva several times over the years and I have concluded that for me it prolongs the healing because the sores become larger and redder which makes it look worse. I apply apple cider vinegar 2 or 3 times a day with a cottonball and found this to be the absolute best at shortening the course. Even when I catch it late (well into the blister stage), the vinegar dries the blisters up well overnight. Works for me.

I started getting cold sores a couple years ago. I have always worked in a position that has me around people (Caregiver, Waitress, Customer Service) so it is extremely embarrassing having these sores. At first I just used Campho-Phenique to manage the irritation and waited it out. But by about the third time I had experienced a cold sore, I started researching ways to get rid of them faster. I tried lots of different home remedies, none of which seemed to help much. So, Lo and behold I heard of Abreva and all the "Wonderful" reviews, so I decided to try it. I applied Abreva at that first "tingle" and within hours, I had a blister. I continued use, and not only did the blister flare up, and SPREAD, but I developed another one right next to it!! Months later I decided to try it again thinking maybe I just didn't catch it in time. NOPE. The SAME thing happened again. I understand that every product can affect people differently, but, never will I buy this product again or recommend it to anyone. On the other hand, I did finally find a product that did work for me and did help shorten my cold sore. I have heard there are cheaper alternatives to this product as well. But after my experience with Abreva (waste of money $15-$20), I am willing to shell out the $10-$15 for the Orajel Single Dose as it has worked for me!! Read More Read Less

I have had cold sores since I was young. When I get a sore it usually more than one. Have used other methods that did not seem to work treatments would numb the bothersome tingle. Finally decided on trying Abreva. To my amazement worked remarkably. Tingle sensation (burning lips) was numbed and sore did not get inflamed stayed at early stage healing time remarkable also cut in half just about. Overall highly recommend.

I started using Abreva as soon as I got the cold sore tingle. I used it 3-4 times per day and I am 2 weeks into my cold sore. It is scabbed up and peeling for a week now. Did not make one single bit of difference, and I am $20 poorer.

I have had fever blisters off and on for years. I am just now noticing if I eat a lot of chocolate (and it was just Valentine's day, so I DID!) that I will have a fever blister pretty soon after. (as well as having a lot of hot flashes, fever or being out in the sun and heat as well as times when I know my immune system is under attack!) Anyway, I know I am allergic to Carmex and that only makes them worse...so I thought this time I would try the Abreva. Bad idea. I think I am even more allergic to it than to Carmex. I got more blisters and my lip swelled at least 3 times its normal size!! Not fun. And to have paid so much for this little tube. ugh. If you have sensitive skin/lips I would take Lysine instead. That and ice for the swelling and now applying Oragel mouth sore gel seems to be the only thing that's working for it.Read More Read Less
