I have partial seizures and have tried every medication on the market, all with bad results (until Keppra). Depakote caused me to get a life-threatening case of pancreatitis (so BE CAREFUL!); Lamictal caused bruising and migraines; Topamax & Tegretol didn't work; et cetera. Many of them made me lose/gain weight and lose hair. I thought all hope was lost until they put me on Keppra. I've not lo...
This Drug made me crazy and irritable when in the company of other, when I would not normally act in such a fashion.

Absolutely terrible drug with an awful side effect that occurs so often it even has a name: 'Keppra Rage". Felt like my head was burning, caused terrible anger and depression, made me feel like either hurting somebody or killing myself. I felt like life was not worth living, and I felt intense anger over nothing, which I directed at the people who love me. Took several days to get over this after stopping the drug. A year later, tried it again with exactly the same effect. Did nothing to control seizures either, in fact I had more seizures while in this terrible state than I did before taking the drug. Should be withdrawn from the market. Read More Read Less

It works perfectly for my seizures but constant skin rashes and severe aggression. Very strained relationships with family and friends.

I was started on 1500 mgs twice a day after having a series of full seizures in April of 2018. I had not had a serious seizure since February of 2009 after a so-called psychiatrist prescribed Celexa in the amount of 60 mgs... 20 mgs above the manufacturers recommended maximum dosage. I had never had a seizure in my life until I had that large dose of Celexa.

I have been on 2000mgs twice daily. I suffer from extreme moodiness and irritability and rarely any complex partial seizures stemming from temporal lobe epilepsy. The medication for the most part works along with 750mgs of lamictal daily. I've recently in the past few years have been suffering memory loss. Not sure if it's the meds or my condition. The family says that I was a completely different person when taken off the meds while staying in an epilepsy monitoring unit at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. I have to do a double take all the time wherever I am to make sure I don't take out anything on anyone especially at home with the family, especially the youngsters. As funny as it sounds a new family puppy has really helped me cope along with the condition. To all reading this review, remember we have to do whatever it takes to be around for all of our loved ones as long as we can.Stay STRONG. Hope this helps all suffering from this awful condition. Good luck to all of you. Maybe puppies are the cure. Lol.Read More Read Less

I take 3000mg/day , causes irritability and drowsiness, but overall it controls the seizures well. I have generalized seizures as a result of a brain injury a few years ago. Have been on this drug ever since, dose has been slowly increased over time. Does no completely elimiante my seizures but its effective.

I used to be on Depakote but I continued to have seizures. I was changed to Keppra since I wanted to start a family and it would be safe for me and the baby. I have not had a seizure in over 6 years.

Medication works great. I stopped taking it for some time and seazures came back 3 moths later. I have to prevent headaches, stress and heavy lifting off the ground. I still get sudden headaches, feel dizzy, black out or even see this blurry but colorful spot that can't prevent from staring at it. Overall this medication works for me.

taking keppra is to live while you are dead. it sucks the life out of you, making you wish a seizure had killed you before you got put on this drug. it makes you depressed, suicidal, forgetful, and out of touch with your own body and mind in general. i begged my neurologist to take me off this drug for months, and he finally agreed yesterday. i do not have epilepsy, i just had a withdrawal seizure from abruptly stopping a psychiatric medication. i would not wish this experience on my worst enemy. I had petite mal seizures from the time I was 6 until 13. Doctor took me off meds when I was 19. In November 2015, 1 month before my 63rd birthday, I had 2 grand mal seizures. The first I hit the floor so hard I had a bad concussion and was out for an hour or more. Husband said I had another in the ER and took 4 nurses to hold me down. I'm on 500 mg generic Keppra twice a day. I normally get up 7-7:30 every day and asleep by 11am. I can sleep 4-5 hours during the day every day. Didn't do that before taking Keppra. I had a mild seizure in March and all doctor did was increase to 750 mg twice a day. All I wanted to do was sleep. Primary doctor said go back to 500mg. I'm going to see a new neurologist in a couple weeks. I can't even sit and read or crochet anymore. Just a zombie.Read More Read Less

Keppra had a profound effect on my mental health. I have always had major depression, which responds well to antidepressants, but I got so severely depressed on Keppra that I felt like a zombie just walking around with no ability to feel. I felt like I was free floating in outer space with no tether. And I felt suicidal. The whole experience was scary. It never occurred to me that it could be the side effect of a drug. Then my therapist looked it up and told me that depression was a major side effect. I went off it -- I had been on it for about a year -- and went back to feeling normal. It's a horrible drug for some people. I now list it as a drug that I'm allergic to so that no one ever gives it to me again. Read More Read Less

I have had every single side effect possible from this medication. Including bladder incontinence and weight gain of 60 pounds in just over a year of taking it. I had to go to my neurologist and told him the side effects that I was having which was almost every single side effect possible of the drug and he immediately weaned me off of that medication because of all the side effects I was having. Now I have much less insomnia and I have a normal sleep pattern along with only a week of being off of the medication I have already lost 10 pounds. It's amazing what a medication can do to your system. I went up on my lamictal and as a result I have no side effects my energy level is much higher and I have also lost my sleep apnea. I love taking my lamictal as I have never had any side effects from it and it has kept my seizures away 4/2 years now.Read More Read Less
