This medicine worked very well in preventing pregnancy, clearing up my skin, and easing horrible cramps. The only thing I didn't like was remembering to take it at the same time each day.

This was the very first oral form of birth control I've ever taken. I had been on it for over two years and the first year and a half I experienced no negative side effects other than mild weight gain, 5 pounds. Then the remaining six months I noticed a change in my attitude. All of the sudden I'm beyond sensitive, I cry at commericals that aren't even sad. I find myself on the cycle of pills the week before I start my period to be at an all time low. I get depressed and violent. I find any excuse to fight with anyone unfortunate enough to be in my company. EVERYTHING hurts my feelings. I'm typically I very passive person with a very outgoing attitude and all of the sudden I become Mr Hyde and lose control of myself. Take with caution.Read More Read Less

I am now 21 and I started taking these pills since I was 16. These pills have been very effective in preventing pregnancy for me. I have gone off the pill a couple of times and have noticed the difference in my body good and bad. The pros while taking it for me have been: Not getting pregnant and having fuller breasts. The cons: I get moody easily, angry easily, it lowers my sex drive, and I'm more emotional. I have come to realize that it is time for me to switch to a non-hormonal pill because ortho tri-cyclen is just not working out anymore and not worth it with all the bad side effects. Took this pill for 2 yrs and it worked wonderfully until the beginning of the second year. I started developing symptoms of depression which I thought were just winter blues. I then started to become severely depressed and sought therapy. After a couple sessions my therapist recommended me discussing changing my pill with my GYN. Almost immediately after the switch (about 3 days) I noticed I was back to being "me". This pill was fantastic for the first 1 1/2yrs and the only side effects I had were bigger breasts( a pro as far as I am concerned). However when the depression happened I didn't even think to attribute it to my pill. I was having suicidal thoughts and became shut off to everyone. I almost started taking anti depressants when I decided to try switching my BC first. I am now on a monophasic pill (only into the 3rd month) and so far so goo. Read More Read Less

I went on Ortho Tri-cyclen in the hopes that it would treat my moderate acne but after my 3rd pack, it has done little if nothing to clear up my skin. I might just need to be patient and give the drug more time to decrease my body's androgens, but I'm going to switch to a different BC because of the severity of my symptoms. The first month and a half was fine for me but after that I started noticing that I was becoming more and more socially anxious and depressed. I feel "out of it" most of the time now and last week I was crying for no reason. I do have a predisposition to depression but I was shocked at how much this pill has negatively affected my mood. Pros: weight gain (I am very thin and have always tried to gain weight), larger breasts & no babies Cons: feeling zombiefied, anxious, weepy and overall depressed mood, feeling fatigued, and occasionally feeling nauseous Read More Read Less

I've been taking this birth control for 2 months. It has done the job of not getting me pregnant, but the side effects aren't worth it. Since I started taking the birth control I started getting more headaches, had upset stomach a lot, always feel bloated, depressed, and very moody.

When I was 19 I started this drug for birth control. I did not know at the time it would be a miracle pill for my extreme painful periods, which is the reason I take it now. I have always taken the brand name with the exception of trying generic as a trial, TriSprintec. I started to develop melasma on my perfect skin. I know only the compound ingredients are different. I do not know if the generic was to blame or moving to an area where the sun is stronger. Perhaps the sun rays caused increased sensitivity. I went back to brand name. For me this drug has been wonderful and the doctor said if it works well stay with it. If anyone else has had a similar experience with trying generic, please share.Read More Read Less

When I first started this medication I had horrible headaches and very heavy periods. My doctor said to take two alieve everyday to get rid of the headaches. This did work, but then I started having terrible stomach pains and didn't want to eat. I called the doctor again and she said to give it a month before I decide to switch to a different pill. It's been one week and I feel sick all the time. I still take the pill and now I'm beginning to feel very depressed and I'm not on my period. I'm calling the doctor again tomorrow to see if she'll switch me to a low hormone pill. This just isn't the right medication for me, esspecially with the side effects I've experienced just within the first week. I understand it takes your body time to adjust-- but having headaches, not eating, and feeling depressed is just too overwhelming for me. Read More Read Less

I began using this drug when i was 14 years old. I was having very long and strong/heavy and EXTREMLY painful period cycles. I was only on it for 2 years but I believe the damage was already done. Now I'm 25 I am divorced with no kids (due to the endometriosis) and my pain is worse EVERY NEW PERIOD! Some one needs to compensate US WOMEN for this!

Do not take this drug! I only took it for two days and began to experience a variety of extreme side effects. Including: insomnia, severe depression, anxiety, abdominal pain, irritability, and nausea. There are other hormonal birth control pills that are just as effective with out the horrible side effects!

I seemed fine at first but after about 6-7 months of taking trinessa, I developed horrible side effects. I would have hot flashes, painful cysts under arms near breast, unwanted hair, mood swings, headaches, nausea, etc. I've never had this type of problem with any of birth control. It did seem to clear up my face, but def not worth it with the horrible symptoms I had because of it. I start a new pill Monday and am hoping this clears all my symptoms up. I'm posting this to maybe help someone who has had similar side effects. This pill might work for a lot of people but def not for me...and it took me a long time to figure out what was wrong with me!(Now off to stand outside in the cold because Im having another hotflash!) When I started taking this drug everything was fine. Then about 6 months into taking this pill I started having 2 week long, heavy bleeding periods with such intense cramps. Also, I am a very reasonable and logical person and since taking this pill my emotions have been all kinds of messed up. If you like feeling paranoid and crazy, this is the drug for you.

Started taking the generic form of this drug, and within three weeks I became severely depressed and anxious. I also experienced stomach upset and diarrhea. I would not recommend this drug.

I am taking this medication with triple therapy for Hep C. It is easy to use and causes no additional side effects with the Hep C meds or paxil. I love it =)

This birth control was great -- until it made me gain weight. It took care of my long/heavy periods and my acne disappeared while I was on this pill. The weight gain occured suddenly and I've gained approx. 30 pounds. This pill has also made my blood pressure very high.

I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for over 10 years. It was great until I hit 35. When I was younger, it did exactly what it should: prevented contraception, kept my skin clear :), and did not affect my sex drive. At 35, I assume that my body changed and this drug affected me HORRIBLY. The minor effect was high blood pressure, which was strange, since I'm very athletic and careful about what I eat. The worst symptom was depression - SEVERE depression - suicidal depression. It took months to figure it out, and when I started testing: I could literally feel my mood sink 15 minutes after taking the pill. I would not write this drug off, since it worked so reliably for years. Just be aware and share the information that the side effects can be SERIOUS to some people.Read More Read Less

This medication started off great. It helped with my skin, too, and no weight gain. However, I had almost no sex drive and developed inflammation (caused by the medication-everything else has been ruled out) "down there" so horrible that it was impossible to have sex. I'm stopping immediately and praying it goes away. I'm very disappointed.
