I was treated for a couple of weeks on this medication. I had been having chronic urinary tract infections which had been treated by oral antibiotics including ciprofloxacin, keflex and septra ds. They were effective only for a short period of time and once I was off of these meds the infection would come back. I even had several weeks of gentamycin bladder irrigation which was unsucessful. I had no negative adverse reactions to this antibiotic, which I took due to allergies with others and an antibiotic-resistant E. coli bladder infection. It worked when other medicines had not after years of trying different antibiotics and having return of symptoms. This required a pic line to be installed in my arm, which was not bothersome for the week it was required.

My wife has been given etrapenem for 2 weeks through IV since she cant take antibiotics orally as she gets worse. First it was UTI that had affected her kidneys and Bp dropped so low she had to go ICU and after 2 weeks of treatment with different antiniotics she had her fever again. This time there was bacteria in her urine and after 3 days in hospital she was prescribed etrapenem. The first week was fine but as the second week began she started feeling so weak and tired. Not sure if it was due to the antibiotics and then her feet also started hurting. Hoping to get done with it asapRead More Read Less

They were effective only for a short period of time and once I was off of these meds the infection would come back. I even had several weeks of gentamycin bladder irrigation which was unsucessful. I have been off this IV medication now for several weeks and I have not had any more symptoms of a bladder infection. I am estatic because I have been having bladder infections for a few years now and I was worried it might never be cured. But it looks like ertapenem did the job and I am very happy with this medication. I had no side effects. The only thing that bothered me was the dressing I had to use to cover my midline. It was very irritating.Read More Read Less
