People keep relating this to their ambien or trazodone. This medication is entirely different and the comparison is completely off. I started taking the medication two weeks ago, despite the negative feedback. There were people saying that it couldn't compare to ambien / trazodone. While I understand that it's easy to compare a sleeping medication to another, rozerem is not a controlled substa...

I have had CHRONIC insomnia for many years. It became a HUGE problem during the slow onslaught on my body, by my body through a list of auto-immune diseases; Colitis, Arthritis andCrohns, etc. You get the point. I've tried everything that functions the same as everything else out numorous times, during numouos emotion states. These conditions have developed intense pain throughout my body, along w...

I tried taking this drug for a week. I dozed and woke, dozed and woke AND felt terribly nauseous, which certainly inhibits being able to sleep. My co-pay was $90 per month for this drug! I went back to Ambien and sleep soundly for 7-8 1/2 hours every night without side effects. About once very two or three weeks just prior to going to sleep, I eat toast with jelly or some cookies (some kind of sweet) but remember doing so. I have used Ambien/zolpidem for 14 years without a problem. My insurance company refused to pay for it in early 2014 unless I tried and failed something elsesomething else. My co-pay for the Zolpidem was $8.00/month. WITHOUT insurance coverage (thereby bypassing their edicts and control) it cost me $9.68 per month at Target and my PCP was perfectly willing to prescribe it. I'll stick with my Zolpidem. If I do not get enough sleep, my whole next day is a loss. As far as the folks who say you become tolerant, I'm not one of them. One would think that after 14 years on the same dose, you'd kinda know if you were tolerant. I have never, ever, driven after taking Ambien. No heavy machinery, either. Until two years ago, I worked full time in a very responsible job as a nurse clinician managing chemotherapy patients. I am well aware I am dependent on this medication, however, it did not affect my job performance while I was working and now that I'm retired, I get up, wash, dress, brush, go for a walk, then settle in to quilt design. Life is good. I believe that just because one person has an adverse reaction to this drug, it does not mean others who depend on it without side effects should have to go without.Read More Read Less

I have tried all the "Z" drugs like ambien, lunestra and resterol and none worked for me. My doctor also tried me on off label drugs too and they would work a couple days and then nothing. I have been on Rozerem for 5 days now and I have slept about 6-7 hours. Not all at once but it still better then 2-3 hours a day. No side effects big plus.

People keep relating this to their ambien or trazodone. This medication is entirely different and the comparison is completely off. I started taking the medication two weeks ago, despite the negative feedback. There were people saying that it couldn't compare to ambien / trazodone. While I understand that it's easy to compare a sleeping medication to another, rozerem is not a controlled substance. It's another class of drug all together. Drugs like ambien work immediately, you take them and you get knocked out. Rozerem is in a class of drug that requires it to build up in your system before it's effective. If you've taken an anti depressant, it's similar in that it takes a week or two to work properly. I say this from experience. I wanted to switch to something that would eventually help me get off sleeping medication all together. Initially, when coming off my trazodone, I was having a terrible time getting to sleep. This was because your body becomes physically addicted to the sleeping medication you're taking. In the case of trazodone, I had to taper down while taking the rozerem. I went from 100mg to 50mg one week and then 50 to none the next, while taking the rozerem every day. I'll be honest, it was a hellish experience the first week. Also, I wouldn't recommend tapering so fast, especially when it comes to trazodone because of it's mechanism of action as a partial SSRI antagonist. Take it slowly, let the rozerem build in your system and enjoy the incredible sleep you get with this stuff. Sweet Dreams! :)Read More Read Less

Able to obtain 3.5 - 5 hours non-interrupted sleep. Recently, my new insurance company gave me problems in covering this drug for almost two years. Been on Rozerem for 8+ years and NOTHING else works like this.

I tried this drug because I wanted to take something when I was not working to help me fall asleep. This drug did not help me get to sleep or stay sleeping, I tossed and turned for hours almost like I has restless leg syndrome and was hot and cold all night. When I awoke the next days from taking it I was very tired from little to no sleep the night before. I was very agitated, on edge and was completely short tempered. Like I had a complete mood change. Felt like I was taking melatonin. I was mad all the next day and when I was driving I had crazy road rage. This drug didn't help me at all but that is just me. If you do try it, try to get your doc to give only 5 pills to see how well it works for you because for a sleeper it is expensive. Cost almost $40 for a month supply after insurance. I used it 4 times and now tis trash. I use to take a lot of different drugs from ambien, lunesta, trazadone, risperitole. Now I take ZZZquill and it works great when I work but I need to try something when I am not working. Good luck. Read More Read Less

I was prescribed Rozerem by a sleep specialist following an overnight sleep lab test. Following surgery for a brain (pituitary tumor) issue with serious post op complications. One chronic complication is a disruption of the circadian rhythm (think chronic jet lag!). I had tried OTC melatonin which turned out to be useless because the active ingredient is mostly destroyed in the digestive process. But the first metabolite of Rozerem mimics melatonin because it binds to the melatonin receptors in the brain. Because I have a neurological condition, all other sleep meds were abysmal failures. Rozerem is the only one that really gives me 7-8 hours of sound sleep and I have been taking it for six years! Other sleep meds may work for run of the mill insomnia, but for insomnia resulting from chronic disruption of the circadian rhythm, Rozerem is IT!Read More Read Less

It did not help me fall asleep or stay asleep. In fact, the last night I took it,it had no effet at all. Side effects were bad, vivid dreams, dry mouth and blurry vision. I will never use it again. Probably the worst sleeping aid I have ever used. I don't suggest anyone try this drug.

This drug actually kept me awake. so bad I called manufacturer takeda pharmaceuticals and described the affect the drug was having on me. They said their drug is meant to help people fall asleep...not stay asleep? HUH? all the drug supply companies have some excuse for when their drug doesn't work. I have always had good results from ambien. If I wake up taking ambien I have NO PROBLEM falling back to sleep. My doctor passed away from a brain anurism so I will have to find a doctor that doesn't mind helping me getting ambien when I need it.Read More Read Less

Rozerem is expensive and there is no generic version. It did not work for me and is too expensive even if it did work. I could not take it after a high-fat meal and had to be taken the same time every night (per doctor). Doctor also explained that this Rx would take awhile to build up in my system in order for it to fully work. Sleep eludes me *sigh* & I'm beginning to wonder if there is any insomnia medicine that actually works? I have tried so many different ones but to no avail. Amitryptaline was the only Rx that worked really well for me but I gained 60 lbs on it otherwise I would still be on it because I did not experience any other side effects and it WORKED WELL and didn't require a high dosage to get relief! ^_^ Read More Read Less
