I was switched to ibandronate when I had too many side effects for the alendronate (generic for Foximax). I had minimal side effect from the ibandronate (experienced hip/ joint pain initially, but was short-lived). I was definitely satisfied using it for several months until my insurance no longer covered it. Then there were no medications I could take. I've just been taking 1200 mg calcium 1000 m...

I find that I develope a red rash, especially behind my knees and along my inner thighs. I have the rash on my calves and outher thighs also but doesn't seen as much. This rash does not itch but looks very bad. It usually disappears a few days after I take the medicaion. This is a real concern to me so have considered discontinuing this medication.

I had too many side effects from taking generic Fosamax so I was switched to Ibandronate. I was getting severe muscle pains and my eyes would go cross-eyed. I thought something was wrong with my glasses and then I thought that there was just something going wrong with my eyes. As for the muscle pain, I had no idea what that was from. Then I noticed that it was happening once a month and lasting for a few days. Then I decided to look up the side effects of this drug and there it was. I called my doctor and was told to stop taking it immediately and will start me on something else. I'm mad at myself because I've been taking this for a while and suffering with the side effects. I mentioned the cross-eyedness and muscle pain at my PCP and he didn't think of the side effects either. Ugh!Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with osteopenia and took this drug for 2 years. I had no side effects from taking the medicine. I stopped taking it after 2 years. I was off the medicine for 10 months (in 2020) waiting for my next Dexa scan. My results were worst and I now am classified with osteoporosis. I was considering Prolia but it is very expensive and concerned with risks/effectiveness reported. I decided to increase my calcium / vit D intake with food/vitamins and increase bone strength exercises in addition to continuing this medicine to see if I can maintain. Seems to be the safest option available at this time.Read More Read Less

I experienced hip, thigh and arm/shoulder pain and general achy and tiredness 2-3 days after the first pill. The second month I also experienced hip, thigh, arm/shoulder pain 2-3 days after the pill as well as indigestion. I'm hoping I don't keep getting these side effects every month. It really is a nuisance for me who is otherwise healthy and active, even though they only last 3-4 days.

I took my first dose of this and next day felt as if I had the flu. Aches, pains in hips, was nauseas, bad stomach pain and unrelenting diarrhea for a week. First I just though it was the flu. This month I took it again on the 1st, same exact symptoms only worse, very intense pain and horrible diarrhea. I see the doc on Wednesday and I am telling him, no way at all, I will take my chances with bone loss. This is not worth it. It has been 10 days and not better.

Waiting for a test this coming year. 2 years before testing. Really have no idea the effectiveness until the test will be done the beginning of this coming year.
