I don't like the side effects (constipation, achey muscles) but I'll put up with them because Vytorin works.

I just started with Vytorin 10 days ago, so I don't know what the results will be. But I am ready to throw it away; I have developed a horrible metalic taste in my mouth. It is so distracting, not only does it affect my appetite, but I spend the better part of the day trying to find ways to get rid of this taste. This, combined with a new allergy med have also created a very tired feeling, that...

CAUSED RHABDOMYOLYSIS. I WAS GIVEN THIS PRESCRIPTION BY MY RHEUMATOLOGIST. HE HAS BEEN TREATING ME FOR FIBRO,CHRONIC FATIGUE,DIVERTICULAR DISEASE, IB, PROTRUDING DISCS IN THE NECK, ETC. I AM TOLD BY MY DAUGHTER DOCTOR OF PHARMACY THAT HE OR MY PRIMARY DOCTOR SHOULD NOT HAVE GIVE ME THIS PRESCRIPTION. MY NEXT DOOR DRUG REP. SAID THE SAME THING. HOW COME ALL THESE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT THIS AND DIDN'T TELL THE DOCTORS? THEY HAVE ME ON RED YEAST RICE AND OMEGA 3 SINCE AUGUST. MY DAUGHTER SAYS THAT COMPLETE CARDIO MIGHT BE BETTER. DO YOU KNOW WHICH IS BETTER? I AM NOW BACK DOWN TO ABOUT 20% STRENGTH ALONG WITH CHEST PAIN AND SEVERE HEADACHES.THE LOWER BACK PAIN IS STILL VERY STONG, ABOUT A 9. MY ADOPTED MOTHER AT 84 WAS TAKING IT AS WELL. SHE WAS USING A WALKER AND CONSTANT BACK PAIN. I TOLD MY BROTHER KEN AND SHE HAS ALL BUT GIVEN UP ANY WALKER AND THE BACK PAIN HAS GONE AWAY. SOMEONE HAS TO GET THE WORD OUT TO STAY AWAY FROM ANYTHING STONGER THAN 10-10. ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE MULTIPLE ISSUES. TEDRead More Read Less

After approximately a year taking Vitorin, I discovered breast cancer...2006. No history in my family. I am taking Femara for followup treatment for cancer and attributed the side effects of blurred vision, joint pain, lethargy and overall weakness to the Femara. However my Dr. determined Vytorin was not being very effective and in light of news regarding Vytorin, he stopped the Vytorin. Within a week, all the above mentioned symptoms were gone. Should the manufacturer be advised?...What next?Read More Read Less

When taking this drug, it feels like my body is trying to burn up from the inside. I get a very hot feeling, even in air conditioning and with a fan blowing on me.

I have been taking Vytorin off and on for about 2 yrs. I take it until I can't stand the pain in my leg muscles anymore then I stop for a few weeks to give my body a rest then I take half the dosage for 3 months or until the pain returns. I have tried all the statins available and they all give me the same side effects ... the only one that hasn't is Zedia and it doesn't lower my cholesterol very much. I can't keep using medications that are bad for my liver and kidneys I will wait for a few months and see how high my cholesterol test results are and go from there.Read More Read Less

It is hard to know what "aches and pains" are caused by the drug and what are due to age. I am 59 but am active. I do 2 miles on the treadmill every day except Sunday. I use free weights and other exercise equipment at the gym. I lost 25 lbs. and try to eat healthy. Not perfect. Since it appears that high cholesterol runs in my family I am trying hard to do whatever I can do make my life better. I've been on several medications but only Vytorin seems to work. I have a few of the side effects mentioned by others like achy muscles and difficulty sleeping but I am willing to put up with these if it is helping me overall. If the aches and sleep problem get worse, I may do somehting about it. My doctor is aware of all this and we are monitoring it. Read More Read Less

For the 1st time in my life, I had high cholestorol and triglycides, with ongoing HBP, rapid pusle, etc. My PCP sent me to a cardiologist for a complete workup; he added Vytorin to my already long prescrip- tion list. By the 2nd week, all of my joints and muscles ached; by the 3rd week, I could not even get out of bed alone due to the severe pain in my knees and feet. I was hospitalized on the 25th day, with extremely high eosinophils and liver numbers way "out of whack". This was a large teaching hospital I had used for 33 yrs., and had the utmost confidence in. A total of 9 different departments came to my room for consultaions. My PCP was the one to finally be the most suspicious of the Vytorin as the culprit. It was stopped immediately, and the pain began to subside fairly quickly, as well as all the lab numbers started inching back to normal. This was a terrifying, excrutiating period for me. We will most likely never even try one of the more simple meds, like Zocor, due to the severity of my reaction to the Vytorin. If you experience any muscle or joint pain after beginning Vytorin, call your dr. immediately before it gets out of hand. By day 20, I truly thought I might be dying. No pain medicine could do more than slightly ease the suffering. Read More Read Less

It treats my condition but I am wondering about side effects. I have muscle weakness and pain. Could this be one of the side effects.

I have never been overweight, and I exercise regularly. I had excellent cholesterol levels until I was 60 when they began to climb so my doctor prescribed vytorin. I had to make several attempts at taking it before I was successful. It bothered my stomach and I had various aches and pains that I attributed to vytorin, but after having an arteriorgram and discovering that I had serious plaque build up in my arteries, I decided that I had no choice except to try again. Thankfully, I was successful. My total cholesterol is now 135. My hdl is excellent and so is my ldl. It worked so well for me that I have ignored the negative reports that came out.Read More Read Less

I started out with a total Cholesterol of 278 and after one year on vytorin 10-40 my levels dropped to 178. My insurance recommended switching to a generic statin 40mg daily. After two months my total was back up to over 200 with everything else heading the wrong way again. Guess what, I trust my physician more than the current experts. I have a choice of doubling my generic statin or going back to 1/2 of vytorin a day. Vytorin works for me and is my choice. I would be very cautious of the newest research or media hype & listen to your family physican!Read More Read Less

I was on Zocore 80 alone after coming off Baycol and it was not doing the job. I had a stent implanted in April 2004 My cholesterol was still 0ver 200, I am and was on a low fat diet. I started taking Vytorin 10/40 about 3 years ago and as far as I am concerned it is a wonder drug my over all cholesterol is down to 145. This drug works for me regardless of what the new study says.

I just started taking Vytorin 2 weeks ago. Right away, started having lower back pain, difficulty standing from seated position -I'm only 34 years old! Moving around like a 90 year old. Now I have depression, to where I can not get out of bed during the day. I've been crying for 3 days and couldn't figure out why until I got on here and started reading.

I have been experiencing fatigue, depression ,muscle aches and joint pain . I have taken myself off the drug; 4 days now and I hope it isn't my imagination but already I feel better---If after a while I continue to feel this good I may go back on it just to test it and see if these symptoms return. I was on Zetia for a long time but decided to take myself off to give my liver a rest-ha ha--when my Dr. learned of this & my numbers went up she put me on Vytorin10/40. I really don't remember having a prob. with Zetia. My husband was on Lipitor at the time and was having bad reactions with it so we both decided to wing it so to speak. He is now on Zetia. Which he takes hap-hazardly. He doesn't trust it due to his reaction w / lipitor. I will report later as to how I do off the drug and when I go back on it---- In the mean time we are trying to improve our diets and we take fish oil daily. Read More Read Less
