I had a bad case of bronchitis and was on antibiotics and steriod inhalers. I got a bad case of thrush all over my tongue, mouth, throat and it was on my vocal cords...the ENT gave me DIFULUCAN for 5 days and 14 days of the Nistatin. It cleared it up. ALSO a really good tip that my old ENT gave me as I had this once before from a steroid inhaler...HE TOLD me to mix 50/50 of the mouthwash CEPACO...

This medicine made my daughter's stomach hurt really bad and the taste and texture was horrible. She got it from dental work, or birth control pills. Taking other med with it and she had to stop and now it seems it is spreading even more. There has to be some kind of other solution to this horrible smelling, and tasting medicine. It may work for some but not for her! Gross!

I was prescribed nystatin oral drops for oral thrush. I had two doses on day 1 and my heart was palpitating during the night. Then I got up to 2 doses on day 2 . About half an hour or an hour later I developed zig-zag vision disturbance and then awful mental confusion, couldn't think, not understanding reading of words what they meant, hard to express myself, feeling anxious, palpitations, allergic reaction, and walking difficulties. I've to stop this medication and can't go on like this if it should happen again. Read More Read Less

Since I started taking this for my thrush from my steroid inhaler I haven't slept in 2 days and the pharmacy has no idea why my body chose this route. If I don't sleep soon ill lose my mind!

Not sure how I got Thrush. I took this medicine twice yesterday for the first time and this morning my stomach hurts, I have diarrhea and my hands are very itchy. Will I experience this the whole time I take this med? Also the instructions says to swish but it's hard to swish 1ml

I was prescribed Nystatin for Candida Albicans infection of the gut/bowel. Doctor's orders were to take 1,000,000U as 2x 500,000U tablets, twice daily. (Total 2M units per day) To be safe, I started slow and took only a single tablet. Two hours later, while standing at the stove, a lightning-bolt shaped distortion appeared in my vision, obscuring the upper left of my field of view. Inside this zig-zaggy shape were thin, vertical bars of intense prismatic colors, shimmering like a hologram. Sound crazy? Apparently, this is called 'Kaleidoscope Vision.' Migraine sufferers get it, usually in the hour preceding a migraine; and its believed to be caused by a sudden increase of neuronal activity in the brain. I've never experienced ANYTHING like this in my vision. I also don't get migraines. I don't really even get headaches... It's been years since my last one. Or at least, it /had/ been years. As I type this, there's a very mild pressure at my temples that hurts if I laugh, or sneeze, or move my head too quickly. And it's been there since last night -- about 6 hours after taking the Nystatin; and 4 hours after the technicolor lightning bolt stopped by. (The visual distortion only lasted 3-5 minutes, and disappeared after I laid down in a darkened room) I've stopped taking the Nystatin and reported the reaction to my doctor. (and pharmacist) In addition to the unusual neurological reaction, I also had the more "to-be-expected" side effects of diarrhea, gas, and a general icky-nauseous feeling throughout the day. Given the VISUAL HALLUCINATION 1/4 of the prescribed dose induced... while triggering a 12+ hour long headache in a man who never gets headaches... alongside diarrhea, gas, and nausea... ...I think I'll stick with a Tbsp of coconut oil per day, (also an anti-fungal) over the $50 prescription poison.Read More Read Less

Just a few hours after my second dose, I had a sudden wave of nausea come over me and I just didn’t feel right at all. Next came bloating, then the diarrhoea started. Oh the diarrhoea! Over the course of an hour and a half it became worse. Explosive diarrhoea with profuse sweating, dizziness, palpitations and I was cold, clammy and weak. My stomach felt extremely uncomfortable, like it didn’t belong in my body and needed to escape. The scariest thing was I started to not feel like ME. I became disoriented and felt as though I was going to collapse. I’m not exaggerating at all when I say I actually thought I was dying at one point and was prepared to ring for an ambulance thinking I was about to lose consciousness. I have never felt like this in my life. I found myself staggering to the toilet again but this time with my head down it. Continuous waves of nausea, sweating and disorientation continued for another couple of minutes until I felt it coming out the other end instead so sat on the toilet then lurched over to the bath (thank god it’s right next to the toilet) and retched long and hard 3 times before finally vomiting 3 times… complete with blood. Immediately I felt instantly back to normal (although weak and knackered). With tears in my eyes and diarrhoea on my ass, I groaned. Relief!.. the poison had left my body! But ouch, my throat was so sore and gruff. The thrush on my tongue was somehow even worse now. I continued to have a few more bouts of diarrhoea after but this was a minuscule amount compared to before. I felt shaky and like I was going to be sick again several hours later but thankfully this subsided after a few minutes. I was pale, shattered. I contacted my doctor and he asked me how I took the medication. I thought it was an odd question. I told him - I put it on my tongue and held it in my mouth for as long as possible then swallowed. He replied with an unconvincing “Hmmm..”. Instantly my heart dropped. Was I not supposed to swallow? Had I poisoned myself?? “Normally you’d just spit it out”. Well, poo. (Pardon the pun). He told me you CAN swallow it but it only works when it’s in your mouth. So basically it won’t actually work on anything once it’s in your body? (Apart from your guts to make you horrendously ill). The blood may have been a slight tear from my throat or stomach from puking so hard. The instructions for this medication is very vague. It just says not to swallow too quickly, which indicates you CAN swallow. I haven’t taken any more since and I don’t plan on ever doing so again. And that concludes the night I was poisoned by Nystatin.Read More Read Less

I do not know why I got thrush one day I just woke up with white spots in the back of my mouth. I was prescribed nystatin and right when I started using it my throat starting burning. I thought it was from the thrush but when I went back to the doctor she told me she didn’t see any more thrush in my mouth. So I’m guessing this medicine made my throat burn. I’m hoping the burning will go away since I just took my last dose. Also this comes in different flavors and one flavor is good but the peppermint one sucks. So in conclusion this medicine is effective for clearing thrush but has side effects or maybe it’s not the medicine causing this and I could have something else going on. Read More Read Less

Due to asthma meds I suffer from thrush. I was prescribed 1ml every 4 hours. I have no side effects. I love the taste, I swallow it after keeping it in my mouth as long as possible and my mouth is healing.

I was prescribed the medicine to deal with thrush in my mouth which occurred because of my excessive use of Symbicort for asthma. I was prescribed 5 mL three times a day and was advised to swallow it. After two days I experienced severe diarrhea and vomiting. I ventured on for a few more days and then stopped swallowing it as I was so incredibly ill and weak dehydration set in and I had horrible kidney pain. I experienced leg swelling. I continued to swish and spit out. The thrush improved. I began swallowing it again after seven days but had the same. Reaction. After 10 days of use I stopped. My gums and tongue were inflamed and I developed ulcers under my tongue and in the back of my tongue. I needed Hydralyte to get my fluids back in balance. At 14 days my kidneys kicked into overdrive and started to work properly again. I lost 4 lbs of fluid. The thrush has not gone away completely but greatly improve. I recommend swish and gargle then spit it out Prep for colonoscopy was much better than this stuffRead More Read Less

I have been using this 10 days for thrush. I suddenly developed ulcers on my tongue and have no idea why. Must be a reaction or imbalance in my mouth. I also had terrible abdominal pains and diarrhea from swallowing so I backed off that part and took tums tablets until my tummy settled. Still have some thrush and my mouth is tense. I need to take my SYM a court for asthma so not sure how this will work out.

I’m not sure how I got oral thrush. It could’ve been from wearing my mask or from my inhalers. I was put on Nystatin for 10 days. The worst experience of my life. My hole mouth & tongue were swollen for a few weeks. I had anxiety for not knowing if Nystatin would ever wear off. I feel sorry for babies/young children they give this stuff too! It’s quite scary!

I was taking antibiotics for a sinus infection and developed oral thrush. I had also been uding a nassl steroid spray and steroid inhaler. In fact, I think I had thrush before taking the antibiotics, given my symptoms. I was prescribed the Nystatin rinse after I developed a red, painful burning tongue with a white film on it. Day 3 I started to get really nauseous about 30-60 minutes after doing the swish and swallow. I've tried taking it on an empty and full stomach, no difference. My stomach feels crampy and bloated, I'm nauseous and its horrible. I asked the pharmacist today if I have to swallow every dose and he said yes. I can't keep doing that, the nausea and upset stomach are worse than the thrush symptoms! I'm eating yogurt every day and taking probiotics to help restore my gut flora. Tomorrow, I'm going to rinse and spit, it's either that or I stop taking it completely. I'll try swallowing again in a day or so, may be only once or twice a day. My mouth symptoms after 5 days are slowly starting to improve although my tongue still burns a bit when I eat. I finished the antibiotics day 2 of Nystatin treatment so thrush symptoms should be improving just because of that.Read More Read Less

I get thrush occasionally from corticosteroid asthma inhalers. This time, it's bad and feels like it's spreading to my throat. I've been on it for 3 days now, and the feeling is out of my throat, and my tongue/mouth are healing. When you get thrush, it feels like your tongue is burnt.

I was prescribed this after an antibiotic for surgery triggered a thrush outbreak in my mouth. Before starting treatment my mouth was sore and covered in white patches. After a few days of taking the drug I began to notice no more pain in my mouth and the patches clearing up. I was instructed to swallow my medication as my doctor was worried about it spreading to my throat. Unfortunately this did lead to upset stomach and diarrhea. It was still worth it to get rid of the thrush in my mouth.

This medication was prescribed by my doctor. It tastes absolutely disgusting. It leaves a foul taste in my mouth 24 hours a day that nothing can take away. I have used this medication 3 times now and feel sick at the thought of using it again. I have seen NO improvement. This medication is so foul I can not use it. I will be asking my doctor for something else.
