I have been taking this medication for almost 8 years for anxiety issues. It has been extremely helpful for me. Very recently I was experiencing a bit of anxiety for the first time in many years, so my dosage was increased from 7.5 mg 2X/day to 10 mg 2X/day. The increased dosage has eliminated the anxiety attacks. I see that a lot of people review this medication after only being on it for les...

After only one week, I started feeling detached, had nausea, dizziness and very weird vivid dreams. Made my anxiety a lot worse.

Female, 40 years old. ADHD, PMDD and lack of libido caused by use of SSRI. Zoloft helped with PMDD symptoms, but my libido went down until the point I didn’t want to even hug with my husband in order to not “provoke” intimacy. After some research I asked my doctor about buspar. She prescribed it and within 7 days I felt huge change. I’m calm, my minds are not racing as usual and I’m interested in sex again! I can concentrate on one thing, everyday tasks come with ease and literally no stress. I hope this effect will last. I don’t think I ever felt so calm in my whole life. I’m also mum to 3 boys and I have patience to listen all their stories about gaming and monsters, something I couldn’t stand before ??Read More Read Less

I just started working at Outback steakhouse. My first day I had a paranoid anxiety attack. I also have schizophrenia. I told my doctor I don't know if I could work and think I might have those paranoid attacks. Well he prescribed Bispiron, thank you Jesus it has helped, I don't think about bad thoughts like i did before. It kinda eases worry and do things I normally wouldn't do.

It worked fine for about 6 months, with the first two-three weeks dealing with some drowsiness. After that 6 month mark it was all down hill from there. I was having daily panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, etc. Switched off to fluoxetine and am doing MUCH better now

I suffer from very bad anxiety and panic attacks and I was given a higher dosage of buspirone for my anxiety attacks and when I started them my anxiety attacks got worse within a week I was in the hospital everyday for a week straight my heart rate was steady between 100-250 bc of the anxiety getting worse. Definitely wouldn’t recommend but everyone is different!

I was diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder. Over the years, I have gone through times in which I can manage my anxiety without medication, however for those times when I needed more support, I was able to do very well with a combination of therapy and Wellbutrin. However about a year ago, the Wellbutrin wasn't as effective as it was in the past. After some frustrating trial and error, my Dr prescribed Buspirone. I started at 5mg 2x per day and felt less anxious after the first two weeks. However, I had developed unusual cravings for carbs and my weight was creeping up, so she added a low dose of Wellbutrin to curb the cravings. After about two weeks, I now feel energetic, less anxious and as an unexpected side effect my sex life has returned to normal.Read More Read Less

I have been on 5mg 2x day for 7 years. This medication doesn't seem to do much for me. It takes the edge off sometimes but I still have to take clonopin sometimes because the Buspar really doesn't cut it. I am on 6 other meds to treat my bipolar, ptsd, a severe anxiety disorder, and adhd. Luckily I don't believe I have had side effects from this medication but I'm on so much medication I can't tell which med I'm taking that shows side effects

I have had general anxiety as well as panic disorder throughout most of my adult life, but have not been able to take an SSRI or SNRI due to side effects. After starting a hormonal birth control and my anxiety increasing to the point of panic all day every day, I started buspirone. I have found a lot of relief from buspirone 7.5 mg taken 3 times daily. It took about 5/6 weeks for it to level out and start working as intended. The first 2 weeks I felt sedated and then suddenly felt more anxious. I was taking it twice a day. After playin the with dosage it was determined I needed to take it 3 times a day due to very short half life. I do have some side effects but they are all things I can live with, such as decreased energy (especially for working out) which has led to some weight gain and blurrier vision. Read More Read Less

I have taken 10mg twice a day for the last 8 days. Granted, it can take a month or more to reach full effectiveness. The first 4 days I felt more anxious than ever, like a low current of electricity buzzing in my brain, and I slept less than my usual 6 hrs per night. But I stuck it out. Starting the 5th day, when I took the first 10mg in the morning, the buzz was much more apparent and I felt lightheaded. It would last a couple of hours. The 5th - 8th days it was still very difficult to go to sleep, but I slept more deeply and slept 1-2 hrs more per night than usual. But I became very forgetful, e.g., "What was I just going to do? Why did I open this drawer? Who was I going to call?" And I was so drowsy ALL DAY I could barely get any work done. It was like I had traded The Walking Jittery for The Walking Dead. So on the 9th day, I stopped. I would rather be able to think clearly, maintain my usual creative abilities, and get through the day standing up. My doctor swore it wouldn't make me sleepy or cause any cognitive impairment. Wrong!Read More Read Less

I have been taking this medication for over 20 years, 10mg x2 a day for GAD. I can still remember when my Dr first prescribed it for me, I looked at him and said “I could hug you right now, I did not realize how chaotic my brain was and that I could not think strait”. It definitely helps with worrying, it does not take it 100% away but will get rid of the the “flight or fight” stress feeling my body is going through (ie intense butterflies in the stomach, wanting to puke I am so nervous, can’t eat, etc.). When I am in a total state of panic/worry, I cannot think logically, taking this medication clears up my thinking and lets me rationalize what is going through my head. I will say, that this drug does not come without side effects. Mine are not too bad; the benefits of the medication outweigh the mild side effects that I may have.Read More Read Less

I've been on this medicine for 4 years for generalized anxiety disorder. Antidepressant drugs just made me worse, but this medicine calms me down and greatly lessens my worries. I also sleep better and cope with situations without catastrophizing like I used to do. I take 10 mg. twice a day.

I have been on this medicine for almost 4 years. I started at 5 mg. twice a day but increased it to 10 mg. twice a day. It makes me feel normal, calm, and happier than I felt before taking the medicine, when I had frequent bouts of anxiety and fear. The medicine helps me not dwell on my worries. I had tried several antidepressants before this medicine, but they just made me feel worse. This medicine works particularly well with a beta blocker for high blood pressure. My blood pressure really increases when I have too much anxiety.Read More Read Less

I tried an ssri which caused horrible side effects that wouldn’t go away even after waiting 6 weeks. So my dr prescribed Buspirone. I started on 10mg daily but moved to 15mg daily. It kicked in at about 6 weeks. My heart palpitations, nausea, and feelings of fear are mostly gone. I still struggle with sleep. I have never taken meds before as I am very sensitive to side effects. Bus. has been manageable with very minimal side effects for me. It has helped me but I still have to put in the effort to control my thoughts and emotions. I feel like myself again.Read More Read Less

I have PTSD and general anxiety disorder. I was prescribed the lowest dose possible, and worked up to 10mg. I experienced a little dizziness for the first two weeks I took the lowest dose and felt a little more restless, but after that I haven't experienced side effects. 4 stars for ease of use because I have to take it three times daily, and normally struggle to consistently keep a routine anyway. 5 stars for effectiveness because it manages my symptoms very well with a low dose, and my physical health and work performance are greatly improved as a result. I’ve had severe panic attacks going on 3 years with many trips to the er. I was put on Ativan which help control anxiety but gives a really bad feeling when taking like brain fog, loss of appetite etc.. My Dr decided to put me on buspar and some say after a week they felt improvement well my first 7.5mg dose made me feel better my heart stop racing and was able to focus on my daily living. It does take a few weeks before you notice less anxiety attacks, mines went from moderate to having any at all in over a month.. Well her I am again 3 year later having them again after dealing with covid my dr put me bk on buspar and it helping me a lot. It’s my 3rd day taking it and I feel much better. This beats taking those hard core ssri like Xanax and Zoloft if u can avoid them do so Buspar save my insanity.. Word of mouth be careful with taking to much it will cause insomnia, but beats the felling of panickig and being up Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this drug to help with my anxiety. In the end, it made me hallucinate(auditory & visual), suicidal (attempted suicide), and It gave me the worst anxiety I’ve ever had. After taking this drug, I ended up developing dissociation, 5 years later I still dissociate till this day….making my life a living hell.

This has been a miracle drug for me. For the first time in over 30 years I can think clearly without obsessive worrying or overthinking. My brain now has an "off switch". I started at 7.5mg twice a day, and now take 10mg twice a day. I have 0 side effects. the only think to note is that buspirone usually doesn't work immediately. It might take a couple of week before you feel its maximum effect. It's probably not gonna work well for panic attacks, but can be life changing for GAD

“I've had GAD for many years. I was previously prescribed benzos and SSRI's. The benzos while effective turned me into a zombie. The SSRI's caused sexual dysfunction. For the last few years I just tried manage my GAD without medication with poor results. I decided to ask my doctor about buspirone figuring I had nothing to lose. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I started on 7.5mg twice a day. Within a week, the obsessive over-thinking in my brain was reduced. By 1 month, I feel like a new person. It's almost like it turned a switch in my brain off. Am I 100% perfect now? No, not quite. But my anxiety which was peaking at around an 8 on a scale of 1-10 when I started the medication is now down to around a 2 or 3. I continue on 15mg per day. I'm thinking of asking my doctor if increasing the dosage might make it work even better, but for now I'm happy with the results at a low dosage. Side effects? I haven't had anything major. A little lightheadedness the first week.”Read More Read Less
