I started taking Prilosec under direction of a gastroenterologist in 1992, which I think may have been very close to the when it was first available. I had severe Barrett's Esophagus and was having emergency endoscopies about once a year. I took it 365 days a year from about 1996 until early this year. The scarring in my esophagus has almost completely healed, which is wonderful. Unfortunately, I ...

Dr calls it GERD, nasty acid reflux, bending over can get really vile backwash, after eating I feel like I have a huge "bubble" that does not want to go up or down. Negative for ulcer and H.Pylori, I also take thyroid meds, hungry all the time. I take the 20mg Prilosec (generic) first thing in AM by bedtime it is worn off so I take a big slug of Maalox and sleep partially sitting up. I have put on...

I've been taking Prilosec for 7 years for heartburn and it works well.Unfortunately I just had a dexa scan and found out I have osteoporosis. My Dr.didn't tell me about this risk. I've read that calcium carbonate isn't absorbed with the drug but calcium citrate is so check this out and take vitamin D also. If you're at risk of Osteoporosis you may not want to take this. I am 58 years old, postmenopausal, small build and have a family history of osteoporosis. I now have to find another way to treat my heartburn and also a new Dr.Read More Read Less

I took Omeprazole for 6 weeks. I had severe bloating/pressure/pain/vomiting & an itchy rash all over my legs/-arms. I went to ER during my vacation in Kaua'i. I immediately stopped and my stomach acid returned w/vengeance. I was doubled over with severe abdominal pain, lost my appetite, weak, & barely able to stand/walk. My vacation was ruined as I was in bed for 3 days. My rash disappeared, 3 days after I stopped the medication. It was a terrible experience.

Been using for nearly 10yrs with no adverse side effects. Recently, after discussing with my doctor, began taking 2 a day in hopes it would relieve some of the post nasal type congestion...that hasn't gone away. Overall very pleased with this product.

I had persistent hearburn. Prilosec worked on day 1 BUT after 4-5 days I had minor but persistent stomach cramping. At day 14-THE WORST CRAMPING AND DIAHREA OF MY LIFE! Felt like throwing up during it too. Lasted for three long painful hours until a double dose of Peptobismol calmed it down. Prilosec is very powerful and certainly not for everyone. BEWARE IF YOU START CRAMPING BEFORE YOU FINISH THE 14 DAY PROGRAM. Severe bacterial infections are a newly reported side effect. Probably going back to generic pepcid or more diet change. I'm worried Prilosec changed my stomach flora and am considering a probiotic to get back to normal. Read More Read Less

Ive been taking this drug for a couple of years. My acid reflux was so bad i would wake in the middle of the night and make myself get sick to get rid of it. This drug is wonderful. I can eat anything anytime. One pill a day in the morning.

I've been taking Prilosec for about 8 years. Taking it in the evening got me through the night without acid reflux. I've had headaches, weight gain and recently major hair loss.My doctor tested my blood for vitamin deficiencies and thyroid problems but they came back negative. Thankfully went on this site and found that I'm not alone with these side effects. My doc is the one that prescibed prilosec. She should've known about the cause of the hair loss instead of prescribing an anti-anxiety drug for my stress at losing hair! Will stop the prilosec and hope this all reverses. Will research other meds for reflux.Read More Read Less
