I was given a weekly 75mg pill of a different bisphosphonate drug at first and spent 4 days with severe stomach pain, headache, dizziness, gas, join pain and even chills. The doctor switched me to Risedronate sodium 150mg once a month. I have tolerated it better. I however, get up take the pill with 8 ounces of water, and then stand up for 1.5 hours. I do not sit down at all for 1.5 hours or bend over. It seems to keep the stomach issue at bay although for 7 days I always feel full and really do not feel like eating much. After 7 days, everything is normal. One thing I noticed by this drug is that I have indigestion which I have never had. Have to wonder if this is hurting my gut.Read More Read Less

Poor bone density results ended with a prescription for this medication. Tried the 4 pills 35mg once p month and ended up with super headache, body aches, joint pains and in bed for two days. Awful. Tried to taper down to 2 pills 35mg for 2consecutive days monthly but this did nothing to alleviate the pains. Now I’m going to try 1 pill 35mg per week to see if it’s any easier on me. I don’t think I can tolerate spendinf 2 days suffering from this each week. If things don’t improve, I’m better off taking my chances with osteoporosis.Read More Read Less

I am a very active person and I took only one pill so far, and I am not taking any more. I started with stomach upset for 3-4 days, that turned into the worse pain in my right hip and right leg to my feet. I could hardly walk. I now have a dual pain in my head, neck pain, dizziness and nausea. I can feel my jaw is stiffing. I can’t do yoga because I immediately get dizzy. I tried the once a week pill and stopped after a few months of side effects and then tried the once a month and immediately I feel unwell. I do weight baring exercises, so I’ll figure out another way to help my bones, but not with this medicine. Sorry Read More Read Less

I took this one time following 3 weeks of treatment with Alendronate Sodium 70mg. I was supposed to wait one month before starting this medicine. However, I did not hear that message on my phone in a timely fashion. On the evening of the night I took the pill, I experienced a lot of lower back stiffness and right hip aches. The R hip was aching so bad that I found it difficult to sit in the bathroom that night! On the second day, I started having what has felt like neck muscle aches. I also experienced itching across my lower bra line. By the 3rd day, I had shoulder muscles that were aching. On the 4th day, my right hip was aching in the bathroom and on bending to tie my shoes. I had bones that were aching in my feet as well as wrist and ankles aches along with finger joint aches. My right wrist was aching and hurting. On the 7th day, both hips ached and I had lower back stiffness. I am experiencing upper muscle aches in both arms. I have not been able to walk on a daily basis since taking this medicine. I have at times felt like a woman 10 years older. I will not be taking any more of Risedronate Sodium. I do not recommend it. Read More Read Less

Very painfully side effects. Ended up in the Hospital ER. They could do nothing but tell me it would take 7-10 business days to get through my system. Would not recommend this drug for treatment. Now I have to meet with a specialist to further figure out what to do next.

I discontinued it as it caused stomach ulcers, even tho I followed all the directions. Because of bleeding, it also lowered my red blood count.
