I was really nervous to try this after seeing all the awful side effects people have had, but I've just begun my fifth month and haven't noticed anything at all. No weight gain, mood swings, nothing. I would recommend that people give it a go because if you think about it, the only people who are really going to be motivated to review are most likely those who hated it, so the online rating is alm...

I've been on this birth control for 7 months already. In the past, I've tried: Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Nuvaring, Trinessa and the rest I just can't remember. I like Junel because it has the lowest amount of estrogen. I also like how it's made my periods last only 2 days, 3 days max. I do experience light spotting in between periods, but it's not a hindrance. The only reason I took a star off the rating is because I have noticed a decrease in my libido. Then again, that could be because of other issues in my life (i.e, stress, diet, emotional health, etc.) So I don't really know if this pill is to blame for my lack of sex drive. I do remember experiencing a lowered libido while on the NuvaRing. The only time my libido increases back to normal is when I'm not on any birth control. Unfortunately, can't not be on it right now. I have been on 4 different birth control pills in my lifetime and this is BY FAR the worst! I have had break through bleeding every month, gained weight, bloated, acne and I am a moody witch. I tried to stick it out for 3 months to see if it would change, but I feel worse and I can't wait for this pack to be gone so I can switch back to Ortho.

It has been effective in preventing pregnancy, although I thought I have been multiple times do to a lot of random bleeding and spotting. This pill is terrible. I switched to it when my insurance changed and no longer covered birth control. My cycle has been crazy sense I've been on it, actually I don't even have a cycle anymore. At first I thought it was just my body getting used to taking a different pill, but the craziness has continued for the past 7 months since I have switched to this pill. I randomly start bleeding about every 1.5-2 weeks, even while still taking the active pills. It seems that if I forget in the morning and take the pill later in the day, I start bleeding that day. With previous pills it took about 2-3 days of not taking an active pill for bleeding to start. Absolutely the worst pill I have ever taken, I'm so excited that my insurance changed back and that I go to the doctor in 2 weeks to get switched back to my previous pill.Read More Read Less

I have been using Junel for 7 months. The goal was to stop my periods therefore I take the pills continuously. During the first month I had a very light period that lasted 7 days. I have not had another period in 6 months. It has been great. So far I have not experienced any adverse side effects.

I was taking Microgestin 1.5, but it was discontinued. I've given this product 6 months, but will have to switch because it is horrible. I started with break through bleeding. I have horrible cramps the week before and of my period (not with Microgestin) I have diarrhea so bad during my periods now that I almost have to call in sick to work and it causes my stomach to always be upset. I'm glad you all left comments about this drug because I thought I was going crazy.

I have been on this medication for almost a year, at first I had horrible nausea for the first couple of months. However, after awhile, it finally went away and I started getting a little bit of acne on and off for a month or two. Other than a couple of problems, I have a lighter, faster period (about 3 days) and I have not gotten pregnant, even though I missed a few pills throughout the year. This is overall the best BC pill I have used.

So, i started this bc because i had horrible back pains when i was on my period. bad enough to make me nauseous and want to throw up and i was bedridden for atleast 3 days every month for my 7day period. i've just finished my first month of junel; i got nauseous from taking it once, but it was because i didnt eat anything and it was early in the morning. that was only once. my period this month was kinda sketchy, i spotted pretty heavily for like a week and a half, and had a heavy flow for a week before that. so i was pretty much bleeding all month, but it wasnt unexpected; low dose bc will do that the first few months, so i've been told my my doctor and many friends. sex drive has faded to zero, which although some people think this is bad, i've found it very useful. i wasnt taking bc for sex anyway, and i'm in school, and its helped me focus alot better. pro. acne has gotten better, but it could be in result to my acne facewash, but i definately think it's a combination because my facewash wasnt this effective before. overall, i'm really satisfied w/ the drug, but if i keep spotting all month i'm gunna take a higher dose after another month of trying junel.Read More Read Less

I have taken this pill for about 3 months to control painful cramping and it has worked well. I had been taking a lower dose before and had random bleeding, but now I haven't had any bleeding. Cramps are VERY minor, if any, which is awesome because before BC they took me out! I was hoping to get more information about effectiveness of using it as a birth control since I will be getting married in a couple months.

Junel has really messed with my emotions. Beforehand, I have suffered from depression symptoms and have had trouble eating. All of this got worse. I started this to help with my PMS/acne/for protection, and there is no improvement. I've been spotting every day even after my period, and I don't feel any sexual drive. I have started crying every day over small things, and it's definitely not the right pill for me. I will be switching to another generic.

I was on Microgestin for years as a low dose hormone therapy. My doctor gave me samples of Loestrin 24. I took them and my period would not end, it continued for 2 weeks. I asked her for my microgestin RX, but the pharmacy substitued Junel FE, they didn't carry Microgestin. So, I started that but had her call in an RX for Microgestin to Caremark. I had breakthrough bleeding after sex for a day, which worried me. And I'm tired and achy all over. I've had muscle pain in my groin the whole time I was on the Junel. I just don't feel good and I think that I'm more stressed than usual. I've been on the placebo week for a few days, I can't wait for my microgestin to get here from Caremark so I can take that. I just hope that I don't have to go through an adjustment period all over again, we're going on a cruise soon. This is crummy. I'm going to take a couple months of the microgestin and see if things get back to normal. If not, I'll have to see the doctor.Read More Read Less

I started the pill on the first day of my cycle and it is day 6 and I am still bleeding clots and bleeding heavily. When I was not on anything, my cycle would almost be gone by day 4. It seems it has gotten worse since I started these pills.

I started taking this pill about a year and a half ago after the IUD mirena failed me... I honestly did not think that the symptoms i thought could be from hypothyroidism would be from this BC. I jsut read all these comments and I have had all of these symptoms. After I had my son I did everything to lose weight and it has just been immposible. I was even put on adippex D for weightloss. I have mood swings like its my job, crazy PMS, bloating and my periods have gone to less then two weeks apart. My sex drive has deminished and I am just blah... I am calling my doctor monday to get switched. thank you everyone for your reviews I will post on the progress of the next BC pill!Read More Read Less

My M.D. switched me from Nuvaring to Junel (Loestrin) because I was having pain and bloating with Nuvaring. She thought Junel would help control my endometriosis better also. I was nervous after reading all the negative reviews, but decided to try. I have been on it for one month and so far I am pleased. I had stomach pain and nausea for the first seven days, but after I got past that I felt fine. I had a little more cramping with my period than I had with Nuvaring, but nothing nearly as bad as when I am not on birth control. I think I have lost weight this month. My scales don't work, but my pants are looser. Overall, I'm happy with it. The first week was not fun but I think it was my body getting adjusted to an oral birth control after being on Nuvaring. I miss the convenience of Nuvaring but definitely don't miss the painful bloating. So, I say, don't be scared off by the bad reviews. Everyone is different. AT the same time, what works for me may not work for you. You have to judge for yourself. I just wanted to write this so others who may be nervous will know that not everyone has a bad experience.Read More Read Less

I only have been taking this for about 2 weeks, but so far im completely unsatisfied. The first couple days of taking it i had horrible nausea at random times of the dayy. The nausea is no longer here but i now have horrible constipation. I didnt even realize but i havent gone for a week and a half. My mood is always up and down and my boyfriend is not too happy with my mood swings. I have my check up appointment on august 26th to see how the bc has gbeen working for me, i cant wait to switch.

I'v ebeen taking this scrip for a couple of months now and just this month noticed that it's causing abdominal pain, bloating, gas, and constipation. There's is also a slight increase in acne, though not too bad, but enough to make me self-conscious when at work or out in the public eye. I've felt heavier than I have in quite a while but thought perhaps this is due to the bloating & constipation. My periods are prolonged with this one as well, starting before the first inert pill and continuing until I actually start taking a new pack of active pills. It's a good bit heavier than what I've experienced without taking any form of BC. There is also some cramping which I'm not use to at all. I'll keep trying it for another two months to see what happens.Read More Read Less

While this pill has been successful (so far) at preventing pregnancy, it is the worst oral contraceptive I have ever taken (with the exception of Barr Laboratory's other "wonderful" drug, Sprintec). I gained 8 pounds in the first ten days of starting the drug, retained an unnatural amount of water, have had trouble sleeping, and I am consistently irritable. Not to mention that it made my PMS worse than it was before I starting taking the pill. I am switching back to the other generic I was on before (Microgestin).Read More Read Less
