I have recently been treated for anxiety and severe insomnia. Unrelated to that, I had a flare up of hemorrhoids that caused some swelling and severe itching. I used some rectal suppositories and also had the "cooling gel" that I applied externally in order to treat the hemorrhoids. The first ingredient in the cooling gel is phenylephrine HCL, the second ingredient is witch hazel. Since I have used it in the past, I had no idea that I would have this reaction. After the most recent dose I noticed I started becoming very dizzy and nervous. I did use it more than the 4 times a day recommendation, probably used it 7 times in the last 24 hrs or so. Because I am on only one medication and this is the only other recent medication I have been using, I began investigating it and found out the side of effects of phenylephrine HCL recal. It has sympathomimetic side effects meaning that it can activate the sympathetic nervous system. Who would have known??? I thought the medication was very benign. Not so for me. hard to put in / no healing results at all

This drug was in a TussinCF product I gave my son when he had a cold and needed to rest. He was adjitated, restless, and had nightmares when he did rest briefly. He would have been better off battling with the congestion vs. not sleeping and being so irritated! He was given this drug twice and it happened both times. The mistake will not be made again!
