My father's doctors administered Omnipaque during a procedure to hopefully eliminate or at least alleviate his severe back pain. The end result was fatal. All the doctors were aware of his Iodine allergies but it was administered anyway. My hope is that anyone reading these reviews will not have to experience the results we experienced. A simple dose of Benadryl prior to an Iodine procedure would have counter-acted his allergic reactions---- vomiting, rashes, shortness of breath and yes, even the death may have been prevented. My father was given Omnipaque as a contract solution even though the doctor and pain clinic was aware of his allergy to iodine. While Omnipaque may work well for many people there needs to be more public education of the potential danger of a person having an allegic reaction to contrast solutions containing iodine. There also needs to be a more diligent effort put forth by the medical community to know their patients and the potential effects of whatever medication or medical procedure they are recommending to that patient. We, as individuals, need to be assertive health advocates for ourselves and our families, questioning every procedure and medication suggested by the medical professionals.Read More Read Less

My husband was injected with Omnipaque. His heart stopped and he died. Dr ignored written medical record stating he was highly allergic to it. This could have been prevented by the Dr prescribing Benedryl before hand
