Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I would like to know if anyone else is experiencing extreme intolerance to cold and a total loss of appetite while taking Synthroid. I have been on that and liothyronine for about a year, both low doses. I believe these are both side effects of the med's. Anyone else have this? and do you have any tips?

I started the generic version of synthroid in July 2011, bec. of an underactive thyroid. B4 starting I had weak nails, hairloss, I was soooo tired, slept alot and did not feel rested after waking up, couldn't focus and was very forgetful, my period was very irregular, etc. After I started on the generic brand, I saw some improvement, but I started having panic attacks and anxiety. I had hair loss already from the under active thyroid, but it got worse. Summer 2012, I started only on Synthroid and I felt like myself again, not extremely tired, I was more calm, my periods became regular again, I could focus and I could remember. I haven't had any other problems that I am aware of. I've always been an allergy-prone person, so headaches and runny nose due to sinusitis is nothing new to me and I don't believe it's the synthroid, as I've seen in some reviews here. I did gain weight, but I also started birth control and my Master's degree at the same time. After I finished my studies in May 2013, I lost some weight and it has been under control, nothing extreme. When I exercise and eat better, I am able to lose weight normally. I also had some nodules on my thyroid since they first checked it out in 2011 and this year they finally shrunk; I have been taking Kelp everyday along with the Synthroid since 2013, so this might have contributed to it, and lots of prayer.Read More Read Less

Been put on for 30 days. Have headaches everyday. Won't be using this again - the problems caused by the drug are bigger than the low thyroid problem.

Started this treatment when I was about 12, i'm currently 16. The only good difference from taking this pill was that it helped me achieved a healthier weight. But, that doesnt justify the fact that since taking this pill I'm constantly tired, have major anxiety, and always in a state of nervousness, which is not something i experienced before this. Also, it has caused me to have an irregual menstration cycle, as it sometimes will skip three or more months. Forever wishing there was an alternative.Read More Read Less

It works for me with no side effects. I started taking the generic Levothyroxine but switched bc it made me tired. Synthroid has improved my energy, hair growth in scalp and eyelashes, easier for me to lose weight/tone and reduced my mental fog. Definitely prefer Synthroid than generic because better results.

I took Synthroid for about eight years. My naturopath kept increasing the dose up to 75 µg. I experienced increasing side effects ever since I was first put on the medication but didn't realize it was related to the medication. My side effects started off white with anxiety and heat intolerance which led into exercise intolerance due to increased body temperature. I experienced episodes where I felt like I was going to pass out. My symptoms progressed and I experienced melasma, cardiac weakness, sleep disorders, tremors and heart palpitations especially in the early morning hours. My symptoms went away ENTIRELY when it went off of the medication and my thyroid levels REMAINED NORMAL throughout all of this!Read More Read Less

Synthroid gives me severe jitters. I have to take 3 lorazepams a day. Only problem it doesn't last till morning. I wake up with jitters. I hate these meds because you can't have any calcium or cruciferous veggies and if you do, the endo will increase meds and that's all I need, more jitters :(

I just started the medicine a week ago and I must say I'm happy so far with the results I have more energy and I'm starting to feel better over all. Hopefully it continues to work. I also want to add that this is my second time trying this the first time didn't work but after having the dosage changed its made a huge difference.

I've been on synthroid for over 10 years! I have my tsh levels checked at least once a year and sometimes more! My medication can change quite often. You need to have a blood test at least once a year! If your still having symptoms of being lethargic see your doctor! Be insistent and be your own advocate! Find a new doctor if you have to. Don't suffer if you don't have to! Every time you have blood tests for other reasons get doctor to check thyroid.
