My doctor recommends me taking this shot for a common cold. Is this correct, I have been told it is not for that?

I am being treated for MRSA received in the hospital after surgery. I had to have another surgery 3 1/2 weeks after my surgery to clean the area out. Now my husband has to give me an infusion of this every day for at least 6 weeks. CDC is involved and sends out one week's supply for us and they are the ones that will need to clear me. This rates down pretty low in my estimate!

I have had so many UTI's caused from a surgeon that used permanent sutures for a vaginal sling, the sutures would eroded and try to work out drawning bacteria causing UTI's over 14 yrs until properly diagnosed. I have been on so many antibiotics that I developed allergic reactions to all the poplar antibiotics or they became ineffective. Rocephin was a God sent for me. I panic when I even think of an UTI since I've had so many adverse reactions. Rocephin did not hurt it worked right away and I could tell day 1 the UTI was getting cleared up. I had no adverse reactions and was pleased it was one dose, compared to 14 days of 3x a day antibiotics that I fear every dose would be the pill that my body would adversely react to. So Rocephin....yeah...its a good thing for me. Read More Read Less

Kaiser diagnosed me with Strep Throat, they tried multiple antibiotics and I continued to get worse, so they gave me this shot in both buttocks. They warned that it could hurt for 2 to 3 years. It turned out I had Mono, so all this did was weaken my immune system and 20 years later, I still have extreme pain in the buttocks if pressure from say a massage is performed. The black box warning should concern anyone, especially that they give this to kids.

I've had this shot quite a few times with no prior issues. Yes, it can pack a punch more than others I've received. I am sore afterwards and even bruised sometimes. This is because it comes in a powder form and must be mixed with saline and lidocaine (for the pain) to get it to a liquid form. It's still quite thick when given and should always be injected in the muscular part of the glutes. The thickness is what makes it more painful than other shots. However, there are people in the reviews saying it's not very painful at all and condemning those who complained of extreme pain. The major difference in pain level of this shot hinges on one condition - if it is premixed with and injected WITH LIDOCAINE! There is a massive difference in pain if it is not given with lidocaine. Yesterday, I was given this shot mixed with only saline because the clinic was out of stock on lidocaine and had it on backorder. Let me tell you the pain was excruciating and my brain said "nope". I simply hit a pain threshold, the brain reacted, and I passed out. My BP had bottomed out to 69/50. I blacked out and 3 nurses had to put me on the table, the doctor tipped my legs straight up. They had to IV me with a full bag of liquids for 40 minutes to get my BP up. I had to call family to drive me home. The nurses told me this has been happening at least 3 times a week because Rocephin so painful without lidocaine. 6'5 large men had passed out and hit the floor. I'm a 5'2 female 118lbs and on the lighter side. So let me be very clear on this - Rocephin WITH LIDOCAINE is a shot that will hurt more than others, but is tolerable for the few seconds during injection. Your hip might be sore when walking depending on body build and how well it was administered. Rocephin WITHOUT LIDOCAINE is no joke on the pain scale. You will know without a doubt which one you've been injected with. If you are injected and it is quite unbearable and peaks your pain tolerance level, please ask if it has been mixed with lidocaine, and if not, WHY NOT! This shot should never be administered without lidocaine, unless they are incompetent or out of stock. If you are not told in advance then ASK! At least you can mentally prepare yourself for what may come. I was NOT told my shot did not have lidocaine. I was not prepared. Overall this shot is extremely beneficial and helps to quickly treat your condition. And I would always recommend it, but only if administered with lidocaine. I hope this helps! Read More Read Less

Any time I get a UTI, I get shots of Rocephin. They typically work for me within 48 hours. Sometimes I am given a single dose, other times I have to go to the doctor 3 days in a row for one dose each day. I don’t find the shots as painful as others have described. But, I do have a high pain tolerance. My son had an ear infection, and after 2 rounds of oral antibiotics he was not feeling any better. 3 doses of Rocephin given over 3 days, and he was cured. I highly recommend this antibiotic!

I had a UTI was given 2 different antibiotics and they were not working. A urinalysis culture was done and was determined this antibiotic would help. I have received 2 shots so far and the 3rd one is tomorrow. The first one hurt some when given, the second one did not hurt at all! I feel great! I must have been really sick! I have energy!

I was running a very high fever (104) and I was giving this injection along with a penicillin injection. Due to the sever pain the Rocephin causes, my doctor gave me a shot of lydocain prior to injecting it. I felt so much better by the next day.

Woke with my first UTI ever and the pain, burning, blood and urge to go (but couldn't ) were killing me. Went to the doctor the same day and knowing the oral antibiotics necessary make me sick to my stomach I ended up with a series of 3 shots of Rocephin. After just one shot my symptoms (related to confirmed ecoli UTI) were almost gone. The shots hurt like heck but just make sure they mix with lidocaine and also spray lidocaine on your rear before the shot. The quick results overrides the pain of the shots and I would pick 3 days of nights over 7-10 days of nauseating oral antibiotics. I had no side effects except the pain at the site of the shot. No stomach upset at all. Maybe a little hyper as I normally conk in a minute but felt a little restless the evenings after the shot (which I had to after work). Really happy I went that route. I've requested Rocephin injection to treat reoccuring UTIs over the oral antibiotics specifically because it has less side effects (no unpleasant yeast infections or stomach issues) and have not had any problems with the shot or site of the injection itself to date. Provides relief quickly. I like it.
