After being diagnosed with PTC in October I began to research and find out how other people were faring on the journey. I had never heard of anything like this before and I was just happy that it wasn't an actual brain tumor. The only major symptom I had was papillodema, rarely did I even get headaches so I was surprised to find out that something was seriously wrong in my head. I was told to try ...

I'll never know if it would have prevented the altitude sickness because I had such a sever reaction 30 min after taking the pill that I went to the Emergency Room instead of on vacation. The tingling and numbness started in my nose and then to my whole head, followed quickly by a dizzines and fainting. While I am sensitive to drugs, this was not expected at all. Next time I'll stick to to cocoa leaves. My advice: talk to your doctor first about side effects.

I have a blockage where I had an AVM removed in my brain. This Rx has helped relieve the pressure and CSF in my brain. I can drink tea instead of sodas. Anything with carbonation tastes bad. But you should also look up this information before you complain. For me, I don't have to have another surgery! I had tingling in hands and feet for about 3 months, then it all went away. I take 250 mg 2 times a day. I just feel like it is worth it and I don't have migraines except maybe 1 time a month. I did have headaches every day, not a migraine but a headache. Plus, visit Colorado and you won't have altitude sickness. It is a bonus.Read More Read Less

I have been taking this med for 2 1/2 months now, and was just taken off of it. I have began to experience random, odd bruising all over my body, as well as a rash looking like sunburn in areas that were not exposed to sun. I have also had numbness & tingling in my extremities. My Dr.'s want to try Lasix coupled with spinal taps next.

When first started I was on 1500 mg a day, and if I didn't eat with them they made me feel really nauseated. I am now on only 250 mg a day. I found the extended release to be helpful when I was still on a high dosage. I had horrible tingling painful sensations in both my hands and feet, twitching in my hands, and facial ticks. With a lowered dose, all of those have subsided or greatly reduced. The biggest problem I have noticed with 4.5 years of treatment is that even on a lowed dose, I still have to urinate all the time and now experience bladder leakage. I hope I can get off the medication someday because I'm really tired of it. I have had no relapses of PTC, but I did have a blackout incident partially attributed to the lowering of blood pressure that this medication can cause. My potassium also fluctuated between too high and too low. The pill tastes absolutely awful, so try not to let it hit your tongue. Food does taste off after taking it. I had reduced appetite on the higher dosage, but did not experience any weight change due to this medication. I also had and still periodically experience dizziness or blurred vision after getting up. That has also become less frequent with a lowered dosage. Overall while this medication did help greatly to reduce my CSF fluid level and pressure, I can't wait to be taken off it. I am hoping that there will be other alternatives to use in the future.Read More Read Less

I am taking this medication for vertigo associated with Meniere's Syndrome. I was taking another diuretic, but the episodes of vertigo were becoming more frequent (every 3-5 days) and more severe. Since starting this medication 2 months ago I have not had one episode of vertigo. I do have tingling in my hands and feet. Fortunately, I am not a big soda drinker, but the first time I had seltzer while on this med it tasted very bitter. Overall, the side-effects have been minimal and the results have greatly improved my quality of life.Read More Read Less

Cured my CSF buildup.. gotta take 4 a day. Makes most foods taste like crap. Deciding what to eat is a struggle.. Nothing tastes like it should. I can't eat foods I used to love. Still, I can see and my migraines are gone, so I'm happy.

I have been taking this medicine for only a week and a half and I have been fine! My back hurt the 1st few days but that went away! I have not had blurry vision or headaches so I'm happy! Also I used to drink 8 cans of Mt Dew a day and within 2 hours of taking my 1st pill it gave my dew the absolute most disgusting taste imaginable! So it helped me do something long overdue! No longer a soda drinker! Cheers! I have no problems with constipation either you poor souls! Too much shittin maybe!

I find this medication to be a trade off. I had symptoms related to syringomyelia including headaches, sensory changes, weakness and hearing loss and most serious, a buildup of CSF. I'm now up to 625 MG a day of Diamox and have fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness, numbess and brain fog. I'm not sure which symptoms I'd rather have. Since the buildup of CSF is dangerous, I really don't have a choice but to continue on the Diamox. My last alternative is surgery to relieve the pressure in my brain.Read More Read Less

I have been taking this med for 6 years. When I could afford Diamox Sequels, it was great. Sometimes an hour after taking this, I get extreme pressure behind my eyes. I also have been getting hives for about a year now. Anyone else have these problems?? I thought that I could drink whatever I wanted but maybe that is why soda always tastes flat!! Ha! I wish that there was more research on this awful condition. We need new meds!!

I can agree, if you are a soda drinker you will not be if you are taking this medicine. I can only drink juice or water. This medicine has really helped my headaches.

I have Secondary Glaucoma, Irities, and saroidosis in one eye. I used this medication along with four different eye drops everyday 3 times a day for 2/months, it brought the pressue down from 70 to 35, however we could not get it to come down any lower, therefore in order to keep from going blind in one eye, I am having the Viscocanalostomy surgery, Hopefully that will go well and bring as well as keep the pressure at the level it should be.

When I was first diagnosed I was given the pills I had to take several times a day. I could not hold down any food and was very confused and drained. After a few months when I changed doctors and complained about side effects they switched me to the Diamox Sequals. I take two pills a day and they release slowly. I still have some side effects some days, but this has been much easier.

I started out taking 250mg a day, now the doctors have me taking 1,750mg a day. They say my body is compensating for the lower levels of CSF. I think this medication is worse than the disease itself. I have had three emergency doctor visits because of undisclosed side effects. Now I am looking at surgery (the shunt)because the doctors have finally began thinking I have been through enough. Side Effects I experienced: n&v daily, fever, SEVERE CONSTIPATION, dizziness, no energy what so ever, stroke like symptoms, tingling in all fingers, everything but water tastes extremely bad. Now after all of this, I have to start seeing a kidney doctor because the medication has caused me to have insuffient renal function. PLEASE I WOULD HAVE RATHER HAD THE HEADACHES.At a lower dose this medication did not give me all of these side effects just a few bareable ones. But once they started titrating the doses it became a nightmare.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed Acetazolamide to treat migrane related vertigo. This drug is supposed to stabilize the physical issues which cause the vertigo. As the vertigo I was experiencing was increasing in severity and frequency, and was increasingly debilitating, this drug has been a lifesaver. I do experience some tingling, and some drowsiness and forgetfullness. Though I am happy with the effectiveness of this drug, my doctor said I may be able to eventually wean off of it once my vertigo issues have stabilized.Read More Read Less

I have been on this medication for 3 years now for the tx of pseudotumor cerebri. It makes me very drowsy, and "out of it" at times, so I take it before bed time. I also experience numbness (like when your foot falls asleep) in my toes/feet/random fingers, even parts of my face sometimes. This medicine has saved my vision though, without it I would probably be blind today. When my Opthamologist tried to ween me off of it a year ago, the headaches, nausea and vomiting came back, unfortunately. I work as a pharmacy technician, and i'd have to say though, it is dispensed very sparingly, mostly for patients with seizures.Read More Read Less
