I had my gallbladder removed in February 2014. I had the "dumping syndrome" before gallbladder was removed, and even worse afterwards. Nothing seemed to help. After being prescribed Colestipol, I feel that I can actually get out of the house and not have to worry about my next bathroom stop. My DR. prescribed 1 tablet 2x daily, but I found that this was causing some unfavorable constipation. I wen...

I am Bipolar and my doctor prescribed this medication for diarhea. This medication is horrible, it went against all my other medication and I went into a Manic Bipolar Stage. It is terrible what I put my parents and son through. I am 46 years old and would never recommend this to anyone.

After pregnancy and birth of my child I had to have my gallbladder removed due to it being diseased and having stones. Since then I have had cronic diahrrea and it was controling my life.. The doctor prescribed colestipol. For the most part it works.. I take 3 capsules a day but if I miss a dose the diahrrea comes back. I still have my bad days probably once to twice a week of running to the bathroom but at least it isn't everyday..

I had parts of small and large intestine removed, therefore inhibiting my bile absorbtion. The excess bile in my intestines led to many trips to the bathroom. I started taking Questran, which is a powder and it worked OK once I found the correct dosage. Just started taking Colestipol pills, 2 mgs 2x/day, which is easier to take than powder. Works great, no problems, going out with family and frieds...glad I found it. Ask your Dr for it.

I've been on this medication less than one week. Until I read the patient information sheet, I thought it was specifically for chronic diarrhea, not high fats in the blood. I try hard not to eat fatty foods. Now I'm on 3 cholesterol meds. I take other meds in the morning and evening. I can't see waiting 4 more hours before I take meds for blood pressure, irregular heart beat, diabetic neuropathy, etc. every morning. And then again at night with the same and other meds. This has already been difficult for me to manage. Take Carafate on an empty stomach at say, 4AM, wait 1 hour to take Colestipol 1 hour before a meal, Prevacid is 30 minutes before a meal. It says not to take other meds close to Colestipol. I'm so confused. I have a lot of questions to ask my doctor when I go back in six weeks. Read More Read Less

I have been taking this drug for about 10 days and it causes extreme constipation. I have also developed a case of hiccups but I dont know for certain the colestipol is the cause since I started amlodipine at the same time but the hiccups are non-stop. I am ceasing taking both the amlodipine and colestipol to determine the cause of the hiccups.

My Dr. prescribed this for chronic diarrhea. I've been on it for at least two years . Some days it works but more often than not it doesn't. Several months ago he added Lonox in hopes that it would help. It hasn't. Over the last few years several different medications have been tried but nothing seems to help much. This has gotten steadily worse since my gallbladder was removed in 1983. The last three years have been awful.

My Dr. prescribed this medication when I had taken tests for gall bladder trouble. The tests showed no stones and no diesase. But there was lots of bile in my stomach backing up. I had been sick at my stomach and throwing up on my bad days for ablout 2 months. I have only been on this for about a week now, 3 1GM per day. I also am on pain medication for my back. So I have had severe constipation. I need to take a stool softened at least every day. Sometime 2 when I get very bad as both have side effects of constipation. So I am learning to drink plenty of water and fluids to help also. Plus he advised me to take my regular medicines say at mid-afternoon. And get some time between them, the pain medications, and this drug, colestipol. It is best not to eat or take any medications for at least one hour after you take this. As it absorbs everything like a sticky sponge. I hope this will help someone to understand why the constipation is so bad. I am trying this for a month and see if the stomach problems go away. And hopefully I will not need to take 3 a day after that. Read More Read Less

I had a large amount of small intestine removed including the valve between large & small. This lead to chronic diahrea and bile production had to be limited. I take 16 tabs a day (4 x 4). It works, but if I miss doses or decrease I pay the price!
