I had my gallbladder removed in February 2014. I had the "dumping syndrome" before gallbladder was removed, and even worse afterwards. Nothing seemed to help. After being prescribed Colestipol, I feel that I can actually get out of the house and not have to worry about my next bathroom stop. My DR. prescribed 1 tablet 2x daily, but I found that this was causing some unfavorable constipation. I wen...

I am Bipolar and my doctor prescribed this medication for diarhea. This medication is horrible, it went against all my other medication and I went into a Manic Bipolar Stage. It is terrible what I put my parents and son through. I am 46 years old and would never recommend this to anyone.

I've suffered chronic diarreah due to having my gallbladder out for 15 years to the point where it ruined my life. Traveling became null and void and eating out became the same way. I couldn't go anywhere and found myself starving if I did have to travel. Many doctors told me it was normal and caused from the surgery. I finally found a good gastronologist who prescibed Colestopol granules. WHAT A LIFE SAVER!! I've been taking this life saving drug for 13 months and now have my life back. Im traveling without worry, and my husband and I have been on many dates and I dont have to rush home with the mood being ruined. LOVE THIS MEDICATION AND STRONGLY RECOMMEND IT! For those who suffer swallowing large pills, the granules are the best way and it gets into your system a lot faster :)Read More Read Less

I've had IBS for 20+ years. For years I couldn't even leave the house, and then my doctor prescribed Lotronex. It was a miracle! But then the FDA pulled it, and the IBS was just as bad, if not worse. I got on disability last year and was only able to work my job for 8 hours a week (and sometimes not even that). I'd given up. Then a couple weeks ago I saw a new gastroenterologist who prescribed Colestipol 1g. After a couple days of being on it I've not had a single bout of diarrhea. In fact, my BM's have been normal, which is amazing! I've even had Mexican and Chinese food for the first time without having to take 8-12 Immodium! I was living on Immodium, and now I haven't had any for almost two weeks! Being bipolar, I'm very careful not to take my meds at the same time as the Colestipol, since it can absorb them. And I've had no side effects so far...the only complaint is that the pill is very large and hard to swallow.Read More Read Less

I had my gall bladder removed 13 years ago; have struggled with acid reflux disease and IBS [Irritable Bowel Syndrome] and spastic colitis since I was about 14 and diagnosed...I am 53 now. I was living large on Immodium and it got to a point where it wasn't working at all and I just would NOT go ANYwhere! This medicine, although I have only been on it about weeks now, has been a miracle! NOT a cure, but the diarrhea is gone, gone, gone. I am making sure I eat plenty of fiber, as I did before, but I have 'been let out of the cage' ! Besides, having no gall bladder, I always have had borderline or high cholesterol...this will help that also. The only bad thing for me is that these pills are rather big and they are hard to swallow for me, I have dispasia of the esophagus, and I try to avoid breads, starches, and large pieces of anything to eat that might get stuck...I just make sure I have a large glass of water when I take my two pills each day. I'm looking forward to a more normal life now, and NOT having to 'live in the bathroom', LOL.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this drug to reduce bile and diarrhea after gall bladder removal. It has worked very well in the pill form. I also try to avoid high-fat/rich foods. If I splurge on the food a little, I take an extra pill.

I had my gallbladder removed 33 years and I have suffered from diarrhea to chronic diarrhea for up to 43 days in a row. After being on the powdered version of this drug for a month I have been on Colestipol 2 pills twice a day for 2 weeks and I am back to normal after 33 years. It is amazing to have a life again. I lived on 12-15 Amodium AD for almost 20 years and that was terrible but I don't need the Amodium at all any more. All I can say is WOW!!!

Pill is way too large and impossible to swallow comfortably. Has the same effectiveness as Zetia which is much smaller.

I started out taking four colestipol tabs daily, generally two in the afternoon and two before bedtime. My most recent cholesterol reading after four months was 209 with the bad side lower. The fact that I cannot take statins my doctor decided to raise my intake to eight colestipol tabs daily. I just recently started this regime about a week ago with no complications or side effects. I generally take my regular meds in the early morning and start the colestipol at 1 p.m. in order to give my regular meds a chance to absorb in my body followed by the remaining six tabs spread out at 2-hour intervals with plenty of water. I also watch my diet closely ensuring that I eat plenty of fruit and other fiber type items to help prevent constipation and bloating, while staying away from red meats and other fatty foods, so far no problems with constipation or other ill effects. I have been taking this medication for almost 13 years now. 1 GM 3 times a day. I was diagnosed with colitis. Most of the time it works good for me but there are days when I have to take as many as 6 to get my bowels under control. I lost 20 pounds in 3 months before diagnosis and I only weigh 98 pounds now so I know if I could not get this medication I would likely be dead within 2 years. I would lose so much weight it would kill me. I cannot eat, work or leave my home if I don't have this med. I have asked a few times for something else to try because I also have a narrowing of the esophagus and it is very painful to swallow these pills but I remain on the colestid.Read More Read Less

Due to bladder cancer, I have a neo bladder which is made from 50cms of small bowel. Eight months post surgery, I had daily diarrea issues. My Gastroenterologist recommended Colestipol and I've been on it twice daily for 30 days and have seen a dramatic improvement. I can go out for extended periods of time again without the need of a close bathroom.

The only downside for me is that you cannot take this medication with other medications. You have to wait a hour after or 3 hrs after taking your other medications

I haven't even been taking this for 1 month yet but I can def. tell the difference. I had my gallbladder removed after having my 2nd baby and a year later was having diarrhea still. My diarrhea wasn't every day but it was enough to make you mad. Every time I would try to go somewhere I would have to turn around and come home. I couldn't wear my seatbelt in the car. And if I knew I had to go somewhere later in the day, I just wouldn't eat all day bc I knew it would make me go to the bathroom. I finally called and asked my Dr. for something and this is what he gave me. I am supposed to take 1 pill twice a day and they are 1GM. I do just fine with taking one almost every other day. I started off doing this bc I didn't want to get constipated. So far this is as often as I have had to take it. I am really enjoying being able to take my 2 little girls out and about during the day now! Read More Read Less

My cholesterol level is 279 I have taken these 1GM 2 pills for over 6 weeks daily. I understand that this is a short period of time , I also have started eating the correct foods. My cholesterol did not drop a point. The pills are very large hard to take and in my opinion don't work .
