This medicine does seem to work well for ear infections and swimmers ear for me. I do notice other side effects though. When I use them my eye on the same side as the ear become irritated and dry. Also I can sometimes taste something funny in my mouth and get a mild sore throat on that side as well. I'm guessing it's because they are all sort of connected. should also state that if you are allergic to SULFUR drugs do NOT take this, I took it literally once and was so sick, got hives and facial swelling.

i was given this drug by my doctor for swimmers ear. it did not help at all. two weeks later, i still have an ear infection. when i asked why my ear wasnt getting better, the doctor said it may take a while and to keep using the drops. now, the pain is unbareable and causing me more problems than it should.

This was prescribed for my 12 year old grandson. After 3 doses, he just could not stand the pain and itching any more. He had pain all over his face and down into his throat as soon as the drops were administered. When that stopped, he had itching for hours.

Using this med per ER doctor for son with "swimmers ear". It burns so much that he becomes hysterical each time we have to put the drops in. So far, has not seemed to help and giving more pain with every dose.

20% of people are allergic to this but PCPs like mine don't always know this and prescribe it regularly for ear infections. Being allergic to it myself, I saw a specialist, an ENT, after I experienced a serious and immediate increase in pain. After I stopped the medication and started taking what the ENT prescribed (Cipro; an alternative w/ a lower rate of allergic reactions) I was in FAR better shape 24 hrs later.

cleared my ear infection right away, but after a few days i lost some hearing in my affected ear. it came back within about a week, but that was frightening! my doctor said is was not clear if the medication or the infection caused the temporary hearing loss. it did decrease pain right away though

left my throat slightly sore on the same side as the infection, but that have been from the medication "leaking" into my throat. it also caused my ear to "leak" with liquified wax which was extremely irratating having to carry around a cloth to wipe it off of my outer ear, but otherwise, it worked fairly well, but did take a while to be effective. it may have been the infection itself was resistant though which would explain the reduces efficacy of the medication.
