I started taking it for depression and GAD, and about a month after I got up to 20mg/day, it finally kicked in and I feel amazing. I no longer feel utterly hopeless and useless; I don't dwell constantly on negatives or worry incessantly about everything (in fa ... Show Full Comment

It worked for less than a year for me. During that time, I gained 30 lbs. taking it. Ive been off it for 4 months not & have finally lost the weight. I could not find any side effect of weight gain in the side effect listing.

Lexapro worked for me when Celexa pooped out. Unfortunately it, too, pooped out after about 1.5 years and withdrawal is AWFUL. For the first two weeks I was in hell trying to adjust to the medicine and it didn't help that I was trying to start birth control at the exact same time. However, it has helped me tremendously. That being said, I missed one dose and had terrible headaches and just felt sick to my stomach. So word to the wise, if on this medicine, make sure you don't run out and that you keep up with it!
