I'm Bipolar but also with an anxiety disorder. I go to the guidance center for treatment and they decided to stop prescribing Xanax ( and all medications like it, because of their addictive nature) even to those of us who truly need it and don't abuse it. This medicine has been a life saver for me. I take 25mg at night and it helps me sleep all night. I have to take it early - around 7:00pm in order to be sleep by 9:00pm and this way I'm not drowsy the next day. I'm calm, never in a hurry anymore, don't get frustrated, and enjoy life so much more. Thanks to my doctor for helping me find the right drug.

Vistaril is also Hydroxyzine Pamoate (Benadryl) It will make you drowsy.

I have been taking this drug for 1 year. It has helped me a lot. I was having 3 to 6 panic attacks a day before starting visterel, i am now having no panic attacks. I do not have any side effects from it. I went off it for a brief period and the panic attacks came back.

I was prescribed this a little over a year ago for OCD, severe anxiety, and at first I was not able to function for about 2 wks, but my dr. kept telling me it would get better and it did for awhile. Now after a year my anxiety has gotten so much worse, I shake all the time and am now having panic attacks. I stay sleepy all the time and just plain lazy. I had been on klonpins before but this dr. I see now will not give me those back even tho., they seemed like the only thing that really helped me so I am going to a different dr. to try to get klonopin again. I'm tired of being sleepy, shakey, and just not even wanting to leave the house because of visteril. I do NOT recommend this medication to anyone, yeah at first it worked great and I no longer suffer from OCD but as time has passed my anxiety has gotten so bad I can't even leave my house and I have 2 small children that I stay home to take care of, visteral interfers with my ability to be the mother I want to be to my children.Read More Read Less

I have taken this medication for 3 years. I basically have no more anxiety. I even found my self-confidence. My doctor said that this medication is for before or in a panic attack because it works fast, but it dose not last long, so you have to work at staying calm once your calm.

I take only 50mg at night and sleep through the night which is great in process of getting off klonopin which is terrible. This helps so much with panic and anxiety been on xanax,valium many ssris and snris that didnt work this keeps me calm but I know the answer isnt just meds I have to do my part by exercising eating healthy and therapy which I do. Have bad days and good.
