I am on this for the 3rd month now- oral fluconazole did not work due to terrible side effects of nausea, vomiting, weakness. It is working so far but infection is still not gone. Side effects are: hair loss, thinning hair, weak nails, extreme body and feet swelling, tired, itching all over (did not start until week 8), headaches (did not start until week 7-8), loss of appetite, can't tell if I am hungry or not. If you take IV fluconazole, the benefit is that there is less GI side effects and you can eat and keep food down. The downside is the PICC line and all the inconveniences or home infusions and risks associated with it. I would choose to take this medication over all the others because it was the easiest and most effect for me. I tried voriconazole, itraconazole (liquid), and fluconazole (oral capsule) previously.
