I developed cellulitis in the left leg following a total knee replacement. Keflex didn't work, but Vancomycin, although two weeks worth is a long time, has seemingly worked very well. The redness and swelling and pain are all going away. With 6 days remaining on i.v., I'm praying it removes the bacterial infection altogether.

About 45 minutes into the IV my scalp started to itch. Mild at first, then about 10 minutes later I was scratching like crazy and it was the most itchy scalp experience I ever had. Mom had surgery on leg (broken bone & ankle). I had to give it to her at home intravenously. She developed constipation and uranary retention in 3 days. I took her to back to hospital where she ended up staying there a week before she was sent home with another IV antibiotic. She is allergic to any penicillin type medication.

They stopped the IV and it was 90% empty anyways. The next IVs were another antibiotic (Cefelexin?? somethign like that) and I had no reaction to them. Read More Read Less
