Back in August I had a visit to the emergency room and the doctor prescribed me wth 5mg, I thought everything would be fine and I would be able to go to work everyday. But everything went down hill I experienced fatigue, chest pain, extreme dizziness, blurred vision. I kept taking trips to the emergency room due to palpitations and thinking I was having a heart attack, but the doctor told it was the medicine causing all the problems. Started seeing a cardiologist and thinking things would be good, but nope! I was given the 2.5mg and started fainting!!! Unfortunately, I stopped taking the drug for months and I still have fainting spells and dizziness from this drug!!! I have not been able to work full time to provide for my family. I had table tilt test done and it was confirmed I may have pots due to this drug!!!!Read More Read Less

I was taking Levothyroxine for five years now - I hated that! SEVERE insomnia, 2-3 days with maybe only 2-3 hours a night - well two weeks ago, when I got out of bed, I could barely move, was hugging the walls, confused the whole day… That continued the whole weekend, I quit the Levo, saw doctor that Monday and my BP was through the roof 171/82. Started me on Amloidipine Besylate med and I believe saved my life…. I was VERY happy that it does cause sleepiness- been sleeping like a baby now! I’ve been taking it at night after supper. Yes I admit when I’m relaxing it may make me drowsy, it helps me to sleep at night again…. I only weigh 115 pounds , ooohhh yes I did have leg cramps at night, but that improved also…. When sitting for awhile (YOU DO THIS TOO!) I read somewhere to stretch your legs - pull your feet (toes)back towards you (just your feet no hands) a few times, haven’t had any more muscle cramps! Have been on Amlodepine 10mg. once a day and when I first started taking it I noticed a calming feeling but as time went on the fatigue is horrible, can not breathe at certain times of the day and have to stop every few minutes to catch my breath and sit down. I do not like this medication, I have to be on blood pressure medication because I about stroked out last year because BP got that high. The E.R. doctor prescribed this medication and my general physician has me on it but the side effects are horrible.Read More Read Less

After years of taking Lis/HCTZ to control my BP, my Primary Care Dx suggested that I change medications because my BP changing. One of the drugs prescribed in the new combination was Amlodipine and since that time, up until the ER visit I had to take on 11/15/22, I have very unsettled. I was having all sorts of issues that would point to symptoms of heart attack/stroke. Extreme headaches, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, light-headedness, tinnitus, and confusion/anxiety. It progressed for about two months until I thought I was having a heart attack. The ER Dx concluded that it was quite possibly the Amlodipine and told me to stop taking it. Since that time and stopping this medication, I have felt a drastic difference. I wish I would have looked at the reviews before I switched from the prior medicine to Amlodipine. Please read the reviews of this medication and beware if you start having any of the symptoms that so many other people have experienced...they will NOT subside!!!Read More Read Less

I have been taking Amlodipine 5mg since September 27 2022. I have had 4 very bad nosebleeds and my nose is bleeding as I comment. I had to go to the emergency room with the last one. I am getting very upset with my Dr. because they want change my Amlodipine. I am quitting on my own because of the pressure from them to take it.

Never had hypertension before. Dealing with a lot of stressful thing in my life. Pressure started rising. Dr put me on meds. At 1st it made me sleepy during the day. So I took them at nite. Dr told me to take 1st thing in the morning. It’s more effective during the day. I got use to it. It don’t make me sleepy put it does relax me, especially when my pressure is high so I’m not so uptight. Wasn’t taking consistently at 1st. Now I take them everyday and I’ve seen improvement. Created a reminder for myself so I won’t forget.Read More Read Less

I have been on Amlodipine for about 8 weeks. I got my cardiologist to take me off it and up another med instead. I just know it is causing all my muscles neck, back, arms and legs. So to anyone that can answer … did you have to wean of it or did you stop taking it cold turkey ?

I am 78 years old, and never had a problem with any medication before using Amlodipine. It caused extreme swelling in my feet, ankles, and calves. I've stopped taking it, and have another med for blood pressure control.

This side affects are not rare whatsoever! Everyone I I have spoken to all experience the debilitating side affects of amlodipine. I have been taking bp medication for over10 years and there's no such thing as rarity in side affects, one might as well drink snake venom with deadly night shade. As another commented, it creeps up on you slowly without you realising that its the amlodipine giving the those awful symptoms. 1) a numbing and slight ringing feeling in the head, 2) your back feels likevyour carrying a rucksack. 3) ankles feel as if tight ropes are compressing them 4) muscles in arms and shoulders become restless and numb. 5) one ends up on painkillers and sleeping pills just to alleviate the horrid effects of this drug. Have been on various bp meds for almost 30 years, starting with hydrochlorothiazide, which worked great for about 7 years, then stopped. Went to losartan, but developed nagging dry cough after 1/2 year. then several others I can't recall the name of. Went to amlodipine about 3 years ago, and have found it both super effective (2.5 mg) and zero side effects. Take it at bedtime, check my bp next evening, usually 100/70.

Since starting this medication, which has only slightly brought my BP down, I've been experiencing swelling of the ankles (so badly I can barely bend them to walk!) Also, a tight chest, general anxiety, headaches, bad dreams and over whelming fatigue. Yesterday, I contacted my GP as I felt so bad and she's now changing this meds for a different one. Fingers crossed I feel much better soon????

Started taking the 2.5 with losartan/hctz 100-25. Wasn't really experiencing issues with it. Doctor then upped th amlodopinevto 10 mg. Bad move. Anxiety off the chart and lightheaded. Dropped down to 5mf. However still having lighheadedness and experiencing issues with left arm, like my arm is dead, woke up this morning with cramp in calf on left leg and my leg felt like my arm, dead. Have also been experiencing headaches and continued lighheadedness. Stopping this drug.

I was placed on this after ending up in the emergency room with what would later be diagnosed as tachycardia. I also have high blood pressure but more so when I’m at a doctors appointment as my numbers at home are fairly stable. I was also put on carvedilol which decreased my tachycardia events greatly but I could not figure out what was making me so deathly ill and as it turns out it was this Amlodipine!! First cardiologist had me on 5 mg I left the practice for a better cardiologist and he in fact reduced it to 2.5 with my new medicine (carvedilol for tachycardia) but still I was so sick and could not figure out what was doing it because before amlodipine and despite having tachycardia I was never sick other than having episodes are high heart rates. Amlodipine side effects will sneak up on you you won’t notice it at first and then out of nowhere you just become very sick. It’s caused me to have pounding heartbeats to the point I can’t sleep a horrific form of dizziness in which a few times I was driving and had to pull over as it was so horrific I could barely stand in the shower due to the dizziness and feeling like I was completely off-balance. It also caused me congestion a super dry mouth and my legs became so horrible I felt like I was walking through quicksand. I new cardiologist felt like they would result in terms of the side effects but they haven’t they also added a small dose of Spirolactone. Today out of desperation I called the pharmacist who is awesome and I trust a pharmacist over any other doctor and he told me that in fact I happen to fall into the category of a small percentage of patients that in fact suffer terrible side effects so he gave me instructions how to taper off in three days due to it being such a low dose and only having taken it for three months. I will notify my cardiologist tomorrow and I don’t think he will have a problem with it because I have been reporting issues with it. Either way I don’t care because I refuse to continue with this poisonous drug. until this horrific drug is out of my system I’m not even going to drive I am so afraid to get in my truck as a result of this horrible Amlodipine It has demolished my life for the short time I’ve been on it and I only hope I can get rid of the side effects the pharmacist said I should be OK within two weeks and maybe sooner so I’m hoping and praying for that. Please please make sure you really think about it before getting on this medication I realize that it may work for some people but the side effects will come up out of nowhere in addition I’ve also experience low back pain which I’ve never had before and sometimes a stinging pain in my head And flushing on the right side of my face I wish everyone the best! :-)Read More Read Less

I started this medication for high blood pressure. It worked really good after using for a week and I had no side effects. Two months later, I developed painful legs which ached all day. A few days later I developed right arm/hand numbness and right foot. I felt in my gut it was the medicine. I talked to my doctor and we scheduled an appointment. In the meantime my symptoms were getting more painful and worrisome, so I stopped taking the medicine. Four days later my legs stopped aching, 10 days later the numbness on my right side is mostly gone. My doctor said I had a rare reaction. Read More Read Less

Was on Amlodipine 5mg for a few years got so fed up with side effects, awful weird dreams, nighttime urination,4 times a night, can't breath thru nose when laying down, got so worn out I stopped taking it as I just wanted a bit of peace what I got was a STROKE. So beware. No lasting damage thank god, left arm and hand affected but now 4 months on alls back to normal. Have now ended up with a whole lot of other meds that are giving me side effects. GPs dont understand some people are extra sensitive to these drugs. Sadly am stuck with it all now. Read More Read Less

I have juvenile onset rheumatoid arthritis with high BP and diabetes. My cardiologist put me on Amlodipine when I was having what she called orthostatic hypotension. For 2 years I've been dealing with a fear of walking in open spaces. I felt like there was a misconnect between my brain saying walk and my legs getting the message. I've had MRIs of my full spine and there's nothing wrong with my back. I stopped the Amlodipine 2 weeks ago and my anxiety seems to be lessening. I hope it continues. I was beginning to think I'd have to use a wheelchair or scooter because I can't risk a fall. Read More Read Less
