I was prescribed this medication along with Keflex. I'm not sure if it worked or not for my skin infection. I broke out in itchy and painful hives all over my body. I haven't taken either medication since.

Day 7 of taking bactrim ds 2x day for skin infection caused from a cut on back of ankle. My symptoms were mild after 1st couple doses but now I’m so sick, aches & fever, dry mouth, chapped lips, headaches, rash on face, neck, & shoulders. Abdominal pain & pressure when I need to urinate the slightest bit. Horrible taste that won’t go away. I drink full glass of water with every dose but still feel so dehydrated. Yesterday my back started hurting so bad it was unbearable. Fatigue & depression constipation also. But my skin infection seems to be almost completely healed. Idk if I can do this for 7 more days. I was prescribed this after back surgery. Why? After reading most of the comments, the reason most are prescribed this is for UTIs or this type of problem. The side effects started after the third day, b/c of the surgery I didn't realize at first where they were coming from. The sensation of falling, spinning, and dizziness were awful. My hands tingled all the times, I couldn't keep my blood sugar up, I had nausua, and the urge to pee but couldn't do so. Too many other effects to mention, I stopped this med and still it took about three more days for this effects to stop and finally able to pee. Read More Read Less

This drug for right condition and right patient is a life saver---I was relocating to another state in midwest USA (farming areas), I swam in a swimming pool at the motel that seemed off, large dirt on pool bottom only noticed AFTER had swam a couple laps already. (Only other unusual issue with this place was I was the only person, other than 4 staff, that was not on crew teams of men not from the local area, nor the USA but Mexico& South America all rooms booked by them, and every room taken -Motel front desk told me had booked contract with these teams for the Government, for 9 months in replacing of huge wind turbines across the state.) no chlorine, 'assumed salt type' for care of pool was being used, now think water likely nothing for treatment of water and likely pool care not being done because of circumstances above *** 2 hrs after that swim, violently ill in way never have been in my ENTIRE life, expected well just wait it out, symptoms changed but continued in middle of a move , losing weight felt feverish all the time, went to several Drs. (new to the area again,so not ones who knew me) with basically being blown off, yet gut and body changing symptoms continued to get worse severe in changing ways and never got better to point not leaving the house so tired, decreased urination, fatigue ,feverish and what happened every time tried to eat bloating , gurgling , get a very hard stomach? yet no stomach medication would help it, was now couple months later -still not ok, and friends who knew me kept on me concerned for my health, then next symptom skin infection started on outside of top of knee that I had also never had in my lifetime, it would not get better 4wks swollen leg and foot, finally ended up in a hospital.*** THIS drug was life saving for me.*** I had NO side effects, perhaps very mild itchiness barely noticeable, but I am NOT allergic to it ,maybe some people are ?. Within 1 days use felt much different, 48 hrs as like my old self. pain fever going away, unbelievable WOW.....targeted what ever water born bacteria or illness had contracted, yes in USA , in a healthy person but suffered with ever since swam in pool for over 5 months, and was losing hope would ever get help(have great insurance and work as a professional, just new to area). I continued Bactrim DS for 10 days and just writing this review*** that NO, not all people respond negatively to this drug at all. For the right condition literally seemed like a miracle after wrestling with such an severe infection for much longer than I should have....am SO grateful for Bactrim DS 800-160 2x day and knowledgeable Dr who prescribed it!!!Read More Read Less

I’ve never had a bad experience with this drug. I’ve been taking it for years. I request it — no diarrhea, stomach upset or anything! I do think doctors nowadays prescribe it in too large a dose to take at one time — instead of the old 250 Mgs. every 4 hours it’s 800 Mgs. twice a day —so if you are allergic the first dose could do some damage! I cut mine in half and spread it out

HORRENDOUS. I’m very careful and aware of medication side effects as well as my body’s reactions to things. I was prescribed this for “a possible kidney infection”. Turns out there was no kidney infection AT ALL and I’ve been on this medicine for nothing. I’m about 4 days in and absolutely done. The doctor prescribed this for a duration of 1 week, twice a day. I’ve noticed extreme dry throat and mouth, my upper lip was dry and itching, an insane urge to constantly urinate (which I did not have before), a strange sound in my left ear and random pain on the bottom of my foot. Initially I thought I was developing a secondary infection which created the constant urgency and sensation to urinate but upon further research I found journals online stating this medication does in fact behave as a potassium-sparing diruetic. Makes perfect sense. Be careful taking this!!!!! I’ve never discontinued a medication but I’m completely done taking this. It’s horrific and dangerous. If it’s banned in the UK it should be banned here as well given how many people suffer on it. Read More Read Less

Doctor thought I had a potential UTI and prescribed Bactrim. The last time I took it in summer 2016 I remembered having insomnia and sluggishness, but nothing else. This time around was way more severe: sluggishness, slight fever, red urine and stool, and very sharp stomach pains. Some days I had to take off from work to rest through the side effects. I give it credit for taking care of one issue, but unfortunately it caused several more.

1st and last time taking this drug - after 3 days of taking it I developed a fever that lasted 4 days - temps as high as 104 - also developed a bad case of mouth thrush - about day 5 of using it, I developed skin peeling on my face, neck and arms. This has lasted now for 10 days and is not looking much better. I also have no taste for food or drink. This has probably been the worst 2 weeks of my life. I understand that this drug is good for most people but for those that are allergic to it and don’t know that you are, it seems too late once you start experiencing problems. Thankfully, I didn’t do the 10 day dosage period, only 5. I do feel that when it is prescribed that doctor and/or pharmacist should warn the patient of the potential allergic reactions to this drug.Read More Read Less

Bactrim is good for UTI’s but beware. I have pulmonary fibrosis. I checked online and if you take a lot. I’ve always been given that for my UTI’s that can contribute to this disease. To those that mock us with the symptoms from this medication, go ahead. I think you should read up on it instead of speaking against others who have side effects.

Hands down the worst antibiotic I've ever been on. Severe nausea by day 5. To the point of where the only thing that will help it subside is gravol. Diarrhea, extreme tiredness, also made my heart race. Only on it for 7 days and I can't wait to finish. Avoid this drug if you can.

Best antibiotic experience. I had no side effects except for a smelly pee after finishing the dosage. Took after eating food, which may have helped. This was prescribed due to a toe infection as a result of falling on pavement and cutting skin around toe open. My syptoms dissapeared within 24 hrs of starting Bactrim. Only negative was that the pizzl size was extremely large.

I'm on Bactrim for an infection in the incision of nail bed skin of my bilateral great toes after permanent great toe nail removal. The right great toe was infected with Serratia Marcescens and the left was MRSA. I have been on Bactrim for the last 6 weeks (four rounds, three 10 day rounds and one 14 day round with a day or two between rounds). Taking the medication, I had a few side effects. The first 2-3 days of each round I had diarrhea, stomach ache, and a slight headache, but those resolved relatively quickly. Throughout the entire time taking it, I was nauseous, dizzy, and just generally feeling a little icky, but I still took this because it was much better than the alternative. My alternative was IV antibiotics for 6-8 weeks and leaving a pic line in for the entire time. Overall the medication is great, but does have some not so great side effects, though I'd take the side effects over a pic line. I'm a day away from finishing my last and hopefully final round of Bactrim and I would take it again if necessary. Read More Read Less

I had some pain and discomfort while urinating along with the constant urge to need to urinate. Went to the Dr and while not as common for men, diagnosed it as a UTI and prescribed me Bactrim as an alternative to Cipro (I was not comfortable taking this one) the possible side effects from Bactrim also had me a bit worried but I didn't have a choice. (I think I gave myself anxiety over anything else) but now 7 days into taking it, I'm happy to report that I have not had any side effects to speak of. I think if you're not allergic to sulfa meds, you'll likely be just fine. My symptoms are gone. I'm just finishing the 10 day course. As always, speak to your doctor about your concerns but this drug has been great for me. On a side note, I have been taking a B complex vitamin and a probiotic daily about 4-5 hours after my first dose. The probiotic helps replenish good bacteria in your gut which can be affected by antibiotics and the B complex vitamin, I read can help reduce potential side effects due the drugs ability to possibly block/lower folic acid and thiamine levels. Currently on day 3 of 7 on this antibiotic for a pretty severe UTI, and while it's definitely working already, I'm noticing some side effects. Now this could be due to drinking coffee too soon after taking it or it possibly reacting with my other prescriptions I'm sure, but I'm feeling funky. I'm experiencing dizziness/spinning sensations, and nausea and loss of appetite. Not the end of the world, but the spinning sensation is particularly unsettling. I'm having to go into work late today because I didn't feel safe driving due to the severity of this effect. HOPEFULLY this where the the side effects end, but it's not pleasant so far.Read More Read Less
