These reviews are depressing! While in college a friend recommended Loestrin to me and I've been on its generic ever since, over 10 years now. I had a child in 2005 and continued Microgestin awhile after that. I've been completely satisfied with the product. No weight gain or spotting, no extraordinary moodiness or nausea, very little cramps if I've been exercising and eating right, and my libi...

My ob/gyn put me on this medication after taking out my IUD (mirena). I had the mirena for about 6 years and the last couple of years were pretty bad. So, I decided to change birth control method, so I got the Microgestin FE 1.5/30 prescribed. I thought it was gonna help with the acne and loss of sex drive that the mirena started causing those last couple of years, but since I have been on this pi...

I LOVE this birth control!! I was on this for 2 years, but switched to Yaz on the recommendation of my new doctor. Yaz was really bad...no sex drive, emotional, dryness...it was terrible! The only side effect I had with Microgestin was weight loss. I feel great and my periods are very light. I recommended this BC to all my friends b/c it has been painless to be on when compared to yaz.

I started taking this just over a year ago to help control migranes and for birth control. I have only had 2 bad migranes over the year since being on the pill compared to several a month. The first dose left me feeling so sick. I missed the next 3 periods and freaked out thinking I had gotten pregnant. A trip to the doctor's and a blood test later revealed I wasn't. Since being on this pill and taking it correctly (every day at the same time) for about a year now I have missed probably 7 periods and have done countless pregnancy tests all with negative results. My doctor said it is normal but it doesn't sound normal to me and the stress from thinking I might be pregnant isn't either. I have had some weight gain and I feel moody the week I take the inactive pills. Contemplating a switch in medication.Read More Read Less

My GYN started me on Microgestin prior to being considered for an ablation due to heavy, painful periods. It has been a miracle for me! I am perimenopausal and it has virtually made my symptoms disappear. In the past, I had been on Ovral for about 20 years. My partner had a vasectomy so I stopped, but when I started having heavy periods I knew I needed to do something. I have not had one side effect. I had a very scant period which lasted about 3 days; the last period I had prior to starting Microgestin was 10 days of the Red Sea! What a difference. I would suggest to all the ladies who have had problems to talk to their MDs and switch. Everyone is different; not all BCPs are for everyone -- that's why there are so many out there. I have been on this product for 2 years now. When i first started it i bleed almost everyday for the first month but after my body got used to it i was fine. My period comes every 3rd brown pill and lasts untill i take the green one again. My breasts went from a 36B to a 36D in a very short peroid of time. I did gain weight, but nothing not that bad and i noticed im starting to be bloated all the time, so theres on side effect there. Overall though it is a good product.

I was very content, for 8 years, with a birth control called low-ogestal. I had my first child in Jan. of 2009, and was forced to try a new birth control after I had a handful of problems. I switched to microgestin, and I absolutely *HATE* this medication. This is the only medication in my life that I've ever had problems like this with. I'm not even a full week into my second pack, and I wish I could kill the doctor who made it. I've been having headaches, nausia as bad as my morning sickness when I was pregnant, increased depression, my hair is falling out, I'm tired all the time, I'm dizzy alot, I pee more then I should, I have pain in my vagina, and everything attached to it, I have discharge and odor. I have hot and cold flashes, tingling in my arms and legs, I had some BAD random chest pains, when I stand up/walk I almost pass out, I have random cramps throughout the day, and my period was only 3 days long and very intense. My symptoms today are so bad that I'm having trouble taking care of my 7 month old son. I feel as if I'm o.d.ing on a PM medication. These symptoms were so weak during my first pack that I didn't connect them to the medication until they increased in my second pack. I KNOW it's ALL the medication because I've been sick up until yesterday when I forgot a pill. Today I doubled my dose, as they tell you to do, and I have debated going to the hospital because they've made me feel so horrible. Ladies, PLEASE, don't take this medication. It might be cheaper, but you get what you pay for.Read More Read Less

I have been on this bc for almost 3 years. It has helped tremendously with my cramps and pms, except for mood swings. But here lately I have been so nauseas and throw up more than usual. I think it's when I start a new pack is when I start to get like this again, it causes me to miss work I am so sick. I have been researching all kinds of b/c to switch to something else. I have been happy with this birth control until lately, I can't miss work anymore! And my mood swings are sometimes pretty bad, I need one that's going to help all the symptoms or at least the mood swings and nausea!Read More Read Less

I have been on this bcp for over 3 years and up until recently have been nothing but fully satisfied no break through bleeding, my period comes every month 2 days into the iron pills without fail. Over the last couple months however I have noticed a little bit of breakthrough, my my grains have increased, some weightgain (tho admittedly some attributed to myself :P ), most disturbingly is probably the bloating and water retention in my calves and ankles. While I think this has more to do with my body chemistry changing this BCP is going to neeed to be changed for me unfortunatly. Over all, this has been a great bcp.Read More Read Less

I am on my 3rd month of Microgestin and am very happy with it. After my GYN prescribed it I looked at the reviews here and began to have second thoughts, but I'm so glad I gave it a chance. I've not had any nausea, weight gain, or change in sex drive. I still have a good libido, and though I did have some spotting the first 2 months, the irregular bleeding seems to have subsided. I have some hormonal breakout but had that before anyway. It's been 10 years since I've been on a BCP and was worried about side effects based on my past experience with tri-phasic pills, which is why my doctor prescribed a monophasic pill. Though some haven't had good luck with this BCP, it really does just depend on the person's chemistry because this has been a great option for me.Read More Read Less

I've had a fairly good experience with this bc, no cramping, mood swings or nausea. My only complaint is that it really destroyed my sex drive and i've had a definite problem with dryness.

I've been on the Pill for almost a year... I started out on Yaz, which was awful. I didn't gain weight or anything, but I had odd mood swings and really severe headaches. So far Microgestin has been much better. I still think my body doesn't react too well to the hormones, regardless of the brand, but I'm happy I'm protected and that my side effects have decreased.

I have been on BC for 5 years and this is by far the worse that I have ever been on. My breast have been very sore, it has caused terrible spells of on and off nausia and last month, before my period started and while on my period, I had the worse mood swings of my life. I would cry for no reason, get angry at the slightest thing and my usually healthy sex-drive was non-existant. In addition, in the 2 months I've been on it, I have had a lot of spotting and a major increase in appetite which has caused a slight weight gain. Needless to say, I am switching back to the dependable ortho when it's time to get my next pill pack. Read More Read Less

I have been on this pill for a month and I have been spotting the entire time. I was due for my period yesterday and it has not come yet. My period is normally consistent as clockwork and I don't normally have any spotting until 2 days before it starts. I had to switch pills because my doctor did not have the one I was on before. These pills also have sort of a rough texture and are hard to swallow, which is odd. Needless to say I am not happy and will be switching back to Kariva.

I have taken other birth control pills (Ortho-Tricyline) and had no issues. Within the first month of taking micrgestin, I've had continuous spotting for 2-3 weeks, unusual breast lumps pop up, leg cramps, mood changes, and my complexion has gotten worse. After reading drug facts about it online, I'm terrified after what I've read. I can't believe a doctor would have prescribed this after how unsafe it seems.

I was switched to this birth control and have not been happy with it at all for the last 4 months. Cramps have increased, as well as back and stomache pains. Cramping starts 1 1/2 weeks prior to my period. It's also made me nautious the week before my period. Have had slight weight gain as well. Can't wait to switch to another pill.

I've been very happy with this drug- was switched to it, and no longer have any of the side effects of my last OCP- no cramping, no more massive mood swings around my period, no more random dizzy spells around my period, and my formerly extremely irregular period shows up on the exact same day of each pack! The only time I've had spotting between periods was a month when I was slightly erratic in remembering to take the pill. Very happy with it.
