I have been on this med for a few months. It works very well. The pills are big but my MD advised me to take them as a slurry. Just mix with a small amount of water and stir. Drink that and follow with more water.

I have chest pains when I walk and I'm also having hot flashes. I'm 68 and had a hysterectomy in 1987. My heart has checked out fine. They say my esophagus and stomach are raw? I guess I have ulcers. The chest pains are still the same as they were when I started, however, I've only been taking this for over a week.

I was prescribed this medication after Omeprazole wasn't controlling my reflux as well anymore. I have to say I was surprised by the HUGE pill bottle I was given at the pharmacy because my doc didn't tell me it was a 4x per day prescription until I picked it up. To be honest, it's hard for me to follow taking it 4x per day especially when you're supposed to take it on an empty stomach 1 hour before meals and I don't always have my meal times planned out. It can also be really hard to swallow since it starts to dissolve right away. I just have a big glass of water to chug after taking it to try to get it all the way down. I've been on it for about a week and so far I'm having less nausea. Read More Read Less

Had problems with diarrhea after having gall bladder removed and over years just continued to get worse. Was to the point of was pretty much home bound without imodium ad which I didn't want to take all the time. Dr started me two months ago on this med 4 times a day and it is like a miracle drug for me.

The Gastro I am seeing first prescribed sucrafate and Omeprazole. I started taking Sucrafate on a Friday afternoon and within hours had severe back and hip pain. This is usual with lots of meds, so I take one at a time to see how well they are tolerated. I discontinued the Sucrafate and began Omeprazole on Sunday. By Thursday I was feeling so tired and bad and having strange dreams at night so I discontinued the Omeprazole and the doctor prescribed Sucralfate. It came Friday and so far it is okay. I have silent Gerd so I have never had heartburn or pain. I also take Synthryoid in the morning and I find it rather difficult to wait two hours before eating breakfast. But if it heals my esophagus and the gastritis in my stomach, it will be worth it. I cannot take any of the PPIs. Have also tried Lansoprazole(sp) and it made me feel terrible. Read More Read Less

I have suffered with severe pain which doctor says is IBS. I started taking this medication along with another for chronic pain and it has been a godsend. I have not felt this good in a very long time. I take it immeditely before meals. I missed once and took it after eating and I didn't have any pain. I've been on it about 6 months and I love it.

I was prescribed Carafate but my insurance wouldn't pay for it thanks to the changes in our health care. I can usually take the substitutes w/out problems, but this one makes me sick to my stomach. Even after dissolving it in water and waiting the 1 hour before each meal, I end up throwing up either before I eat (during the 1 hour wait time) or afterwards. I've also found that I itch terribly after taking this medication - something that I've NEVER had a problem with.

Doctor put me on this after finding ulcers during an endoscope exam. Had no stomach pain related to ulcers. Tablet dissolves quickly so have your glass of water on hand before putting tablet in mouth. Feel bloated after taking. Hard to keep on the time schedule.

then became I started this medication in the hospitalthen became rashy and itchy afer i had taken it for about a week could not figure out what was keeping me with rash on stomach and back then took a uti infection thats when i looked up the drug at web.md. and it said that it comtained alumiumn and that it would not clear the kidneys and or had senstiveity to this ingredent I am off the drug for 2 days will see if that is what was irrating the bladder or kidneys for the only other drug I am on is Cytomel for thyroid. I was not aware that it wasw like mylanta on some of these otherdrugs because my old gastro. doctor told me never to take them because pepto bismal had even made me sick when I was a teenager. I wished these Doctors would ask people and tell them about the preciptions that they hand out then when something bad goes wrong they say sorry.Read More Read Less

I have been taking this med 2 times daily for 4 years now (along with OTC Prilosec) and have found it allows me to eat most foods (and limited use of anti-inflammatory drugs) without too much occurrence of stomach ulcer symptoms (chronic coughing & heartburn). Waiting an hour (+ 1/2 hour for Prilosec) to eat breakfast is inconvenient. So is waiting 2 hours after you eat at night.
