I was experiencing very heavy periods with clots. It was awful. My period started coming every 2 weeks. I was losing so much blood I had to get a transfusion. The Aygestin was a Godsend. Bleeding stopped immediately. I've been on it for several weeks now with no apparent side effects.

I have been taking this medication for almost a month now. I started my period the day after I started taking it and it lasted for 11 days. I was off of my period for 4 days and started back again. I started this medicine to help stop the heavy extremely long periods but it has just gotten worse. This dizziness is unbearable !!

This medication was prescribed for me to induce bleeding after taking estrogen (without progesterone) for five months. The hormone doctor was concerned about the lining of my uterus having become too thick. The prescribed dosage was five 5MG pills to be split in half and taken over the course of ten days. I had intense and frightening side effects from this drug. I actually thought I was having a heart attack or a stroke one evening. I experienced severe, radiating pain, tingling, and numbness in my left arm and down my left side from the 6th day taking the prescription and continuing for one week after I finished the dosage. I experienced intense pressure under my left arm and into my left breast. The drug made me VERY emotional and depressed, which is atypical for me. I am currently seeing a acupuncturist to deal with the very toxic side-effects of this drug. Read More Read Less

Didn't stop the bleeding. Extreme anxiety, heart palpitations, dizziness. Have only taken it for a week. I am going to call the doctor to stop this medication. the side effects are not worth the minimal benefits.

I was given this medication for abnormal uterine bleeding; I also have PCOS. I had been bleeding for 7 weeks and took the medication for 6 weeks. It stopped the bleeding immediately. I experienced night sweats, and a bit of dizziness, along with mood swings. After stopping the medication, it took 2 days for my period to return, and have cramps that are EXTREMELY painful, chills (despite it being hot),and nausea. Haven't slept all night. They should list after effect in pharmacy pamphlet. Gyno said the bleeding will return just as strongly as before, if not more so. I was happy while on the medicine, not so after stopping it. I'm 30 yrs old. Read More Read Less

Absolutely HORRIBLE! A nightmare. Because I take hormones, my doctor gave me this to clean out my uterous. It was ok for the first week after taking, but when I began the second week, I turned into a monster one minute and crying and shaking the next. I wonder if others are having this problem?

I'm 53 years old and had been skipping periods. In November of 10 I began bleeding and bled for 47 days. I went to the gynecologist and he did a biopsy to rule out cancer and put me on Aygestin. I have ha done period since then and it lasted 15 days. I was on 10 mg but was extremely moody so they put me on 2.5 mg. I have not felt quite myself since starting Aygestin. Now I'm having rapid heart beat and shortness of breath.

I am 34 years old. This drug has been a lifesaver for me; it helped me avoid major surgery. I've taken it for 2 years now for severe endometriosis: I have/had 3 grapefruit sized endometriomas (chocolate cysts) on my ovaries, lesions on my bowels, bladder, etc. Many doctors recommended surgery, although the possibility of the lesions returning was likely, so I decided against it. My doctor(s) told me the only way to stop further proliferation of the endo was to completely stop my period. As such, I take 2.5 mg/day of Norethindrone every day, non-stop (meaning, I don't get my period ever). Within 2 months, all of my pain was gone. Within 1 year, my cysts had reduced by 50% (this combined with a vegetarian diet and prayer!). I even travel internationally now on a regular basis and have no problems. This drug gave me my life back. Granted, the sexual side effects stink (vaginal dryness and decreased libido), but compared to the alternative (possible infertility and constant pain), I am eternally grateful. Read More Read Less

I was flipping out when I started beelding so heavy that I could not preform my duties as a mom and wife. My doctor gave me Aygestin. The 1st time was 2 pills a day for ten days. It worked fine. No side effects. But, once I stopped taking it, I began to bleed. I don't know if it was my mind but I felt like I was bleeding heavier than I was before. The 2nd time is for 2 weeks at 2 pills a day. I HATE taking medication, let alone two a day. During the 2nd duration of taking this medication, I have been having some spotting. Majority of the time it's not necessary to wear a pad but I do just in case. Sometimes it is more than spotting but it's only a brief bleed. Read More Read Less

I was on Provera every three months for 10 years. I went to the dr for abnormal spotting and cramps back in March 2010. Biopsy showed abnormal cells and D&C was done in May. On follow up, dr put me on a med that made me very sick. The next month she changed it to Aygestin. I have been on it for 32 days now and have been bleeding for the last 17 days. Dr doesn't seem concerned but have follow up next Wed (8/11/10).

This has been a life saver! I could not function due to heavy bleeding and horendous cramps. I have been taking 5 mg. only for five years instead of going the hysterectomy route.. No side effects at all. I am now 55 and stopped taking the pill the past week. Hope that at this age the periods will not return!

I started this med for treatment of abnormal bleeding. The Gyn decided that Endo ablation would be better for me than a hysterectomy. It has been great for me but I didn't realize that I would become so emotional; crying for every reason known. I am so glad I only have a few more days left.
