I had my gall bladder out over 5 years ago and have been on this ever since. Although it is horrible to take (I mix it with anything non-carbonated), the results are fantastic! I would NEVER eat/drink anything away from home (going out to dinner was not an option). Now, it's just part of my life routine and just something I have to do. I always keep some in my purse just in case. Works great ...

I have daily diarrhea due to losing a big part of my colon during cancer. Yes, this med doesn’t taste very good, but it sure works! It doesn’t cause any side effects for me and I’ve been so grateful for it!

Not very easy to keep up with multiple doses and timing with other medications. Prevalite orange powder when processed with 2 ounces of water tastes like hot garbage sludge.

I was on Budesonide for microscopic colitis. Worked wonders. Ran out and diarrhea came back. My Doctor said I can't be on the Budesonide long term because it's a steroid. . She called in Prevalite. Nasty nasty nasty!!! Very inconvenient. I had to increase the amount of fluid to choke it down. Worse than a mouthful of sand. I hate it. When I finally run out of this nasty stuff I'm going to beg them to give me something else. I'm sorry but I can't get used to it.

I was on cholestramine for 2.5 years for BAM. It controlled my diarrhea fabulously. Stupid insurance substituted Prevalite I'm sure because they are trying to get rid of it. Within 2 weeks I was sick. Horrible heartburn and intense stomach pain. It felt like hot oil was churning and burning in my stomach. I still had explosive diarrhea all day long. I almost ended up in the ER twice. It took awhile to get cholestramine again, the Dr had to intervene. It is now 7 months later and I am not back to normal, I don't think I ever will be because the prevalite permanently damaged my stomach. Stay away from this garbage, the words used by my Dr to describe prevalite. Read More Read Less

Works well does the trick! For those bitching about gritty taste get over it! I mix with water and fruit juice , let it sit few min, stir well before dinking it, and not all at once. Helps me 100%

I started having chronic diarrhea when I was 21 after being shot through my lower abdomen in Vietnam. For the next fifty years I had frequent explosive bowel movements several times a day. I took large amounts of Imodium daily just trying to calm my bowels so I could go to work. Three years ago, a nurse at the VA prescribed Prevalite. My bowel problems disappeared immediately. The inconvenience of drinking something that feels like wet sand is no problem compared to fifty years of planning my life around toilets.Read More Read Less

This medication is absolutely terrible tasting…doesn’t mix well at all!!! It tastes like gritty sand and the taste alone will make you gag. Instead of having loose bowel movements you will have no bowel movements. It caused heartburn, stomach pain/discomfort, gas, and terrible constipation. You actually end up taking more medications to relieve the side effects. Just awful!! I’m done with this medicine!!!

This foams up with a horrible consistency and taste. Other brands, like Questran, are fine.

It works fine. It taste terrible. There are other manufacturers of this product that taste better. Ask your pharmacist for an alternative. This brand of medication works well in reducing my cholesterol.

I have issues with BAM. I’ve been on Prevalite for about 30 days and I don’t think it has helped, but I’m giving it 3 months. My acupuncturist told me it could take up to 3 months. I trust him. It has been just horrible to get down. It burns so bad and I have a tendency to gag but I manage. It makes me very sick to my stomach for about 2 hrs. I never eat or drink when I’m out and about. I’ve lost so much weight I guess because subconsciously I equate food and beverage with diarrhea. Doesn’t matter what I eat or drink. Sometimes I have diarrhea episodes greater than 10 times a day. So sad. My faith keeps me going but sometimes it’s hard to do. Read More Read Less

I was put on this after finally being diagnosed with bile acid malabsorption. I've been suffering with lose stools (usually within 20 min after eating) since I had my gallbladder removed 14.5 yrs ago while pregnant and pancreatitis 4 was later. I was excited and hopeful with this medication. Sadly, I'm far from impressed. As many expressed, it's horrid (taste & texture). It gave me horrible gas (both ends) and smelt like a mixture of sewage & rotten eggs! PLUS, instead of running to go bathroom after meals, I couldn't go at all. It also messed with my taste for multiple hours. And it made me feel very sleepy. I need to function as a human... Read More Read Less

As many others have mentioned I had bowel problems after Gallbladder surgery. I also have high Cholesterol. this med gives me severe heart burn and is difficult to drink as it feels like drinking orange sand. Is there a pill form available?

I have had chronic diarrhea for years and blamed it on crohn's disease. Nothing worked. It got so bad I couldn't leave the house without pre planning. If I took a trip I had to fast for 24 hours. Uncontrollable, explosive, ten times a day. This is the only thing that has helped and made my life 100% better! It started working within the first few days. I feel like a normal person now. I only have to take it once a day. I wasn't happy with the taste and use different flavor enhancers (like MIO )to change the taste. I want to spread the word about this! My friend who had stomach cancer surgery is now able to travel because I told him about it. It has also changed his life! Read More Read Less

I haven’t been taking this long. It makes my stomach hurt so bad but the doctor says it’s normal and will go away. My biggest complaint is this powder is almost IMPOSSIBLE for me to drink and tolerate without wanting and almost throwing it back up. The best thing I’ve found that has made a HUGE difference is taking it with Country Time pink lemonade. The powder is so gritty that it feels like you’re drinking sand, and the powder is nasty. But I noticed a HUGE difference from taking it with water, applesauce and tea compared to the lemonade. Read More Read Less

After having my gallbladder removed I had uncontrolable diarreah. I was making working and everyday life unbareable. Once I stared Prevalite over 9 years ago, I got my life back! It keeps my bowels in control.

The medication works great, but I have developed severe itching after taking it for about 90 days. A gradual thing. Went off it 3 days ago and getting some relief but still experiencing some itching. Will call Dr. to get advice.
