I have never used monurol before and thought that a one dose antibiotic was a good idea. Althought my symptoms were relieved with in 2&1/2 hours, the S/E's were awful. I felt like I had been kicked up and down the back, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea and fatigue. I will never use this drug again. I had to take a day and a half off work. The third day after taking it I woke up feeling grea...

For 7 years since having transvaginal mesh sling surgery, I have had chronic painful uti's. I have become resistant to all antibiotics to treat them. I finally went to an infectious disease specialist since nothing was working. She prescribed monurol and told me that it is a drug that has been around for many years that was kind of put on the 'back shelf' because of all the newer antibiotics. It did have to be ordered for me the first time, but now my local CVS keeps it in stock because I think more doctors are beginning to use it again. I took it and within a day definitely felt better. I have had to take this 4 times over the last year and one time got diarrhea a few hours after taking it, but the other times, it has worked fine. It's a packet that you mix in water and drink. It has a slightly orange flavor so is easy to take. You also only take one packet- not like taking pills for days. I would like to suggest a daily product people with chronic uti's may want to look into to take that has saved me from even more frequent uti's. I had been taking cranberry pills that did nothing to prevent uti's. I researched and found a supplement called UTI Slip that I take daily and I know it helps me tremendously to ward off UTI's. You can buy it online. It consists of something called d-mannose that supposedly makes the lining of the bladder slippery so bacteria don't stick to it. It has been a God send to me. I was in non stop pain, burning, frequency and was miserable. The UTI Slip has helped me tremendously in keeping the UTI's away. Eventually, I do get one, but nothing compared to what I got before. Both the Monurol and the d-mannose (UTI slip) have been very helpful. You can also purchase d-mannose at Whole Foods but that has cranberry with it, so I prefer the UTI slip instead. UTI's are absolutely miserable to have. Before I had the surgery for the Transvaginal mesh I never got UTI's. I wish I never got the surgery, but lucky to have found 2 products that work.Read More Read Less

I used Monurol for a Group B Strep urinary tract infection. Drug was easy to take though it took at least 12 hours for my symptoms to ease. However, on days 3 and 4 I have had nausea and diarrhea. Waiting for my next culture result to see if it got rid of the GBS. I also have Interstitial Cystitis, so it's hard to tell if all symptoms from UTI are gone, as they are similar to IC symptoms.

It has worked everytime for UTI and they stay gone. However, this medicine is not commonly prescribed so it is hard to obtain from pharmacy's as they NEVER seem to carry it. It always has to be ordered in and when you have a severe uti with severe symptoms its inhumane to have to wait a day or two till pharmacy can get it in stock, and they never carry it after that either so I have to go through this everytime I need it. Other thing was my insurance denied to cover it this time, I couldn't wait for an override so I had to pay cash. Its a great medication and it works, anyone not getting relief from other antibiotics should definetly try this med. It will clear it up.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication in Germany for UTI. It is named there Monuril. It comes in 1 sachel with 8 g of powder and is an antibiotic. This one works the best out of all other medications (pills) for me and is super easy to use. Indeed you have to use it 2 hours after or before the meal for the best effect.

This single dose oral medicine proved totally ineffective as the symptoms persisted & within ten days the bacteria count in urine was>100000. The drug was taken after taking few courses of Norflox.

After several months of treatments witn oral medications and no cure, see I am algergic to Penycilin and was told the type of germ I had I would need intravenous antibiotics so I would have to be admitted to hospital for treatment. I started the intravenous, first drug did not work, tried another drug did not work, after a week in te hospital and no cure, my urologist used this medicine and I was cured seemed like instantly! I had a urinalysis done next morning and no traces of infection existed. Now my dog is dealing with the same thing, not being able to find a medicine that will work on her and we have been dealing with this for months. I cannot afford to put her on intravenous and a stay at the vets for who knows how long. Now I am wondering if this medicine will work on her? If anyone knows, could you let me know so I can pass the information on to my vet. Thank you Read More Read Less

I'm on holiday in Italy when I started with the UTI, I had pain in my stomach and bad burning when I urinated. I sent my husband to. The pharmacy for me and he brought me this medicine back. I felt relief within a couple of hours, I've only taken the 1st sachet, and I'm still suffering with a small amount of pain when I urinate, but I'm quite confident by morning once I take my 2nd sachet I will have no symptoms at all. Its worth noting you have to take on an empty stomach, and not eat for a good few hours afterward. I'm fortunate my father-in-law reads Italian or I wouldn't of known.Read More Read Less

I had UTI while I was travelling at Switzerland last year. I went to the Zurich University Hospital and the doctor kindly prescribed me the drug. I took one sachet and I was alright within two hours. The drug is very effective. Like others, I was wondering why it is not available in Australia.

Although I haven't had a UTI in decades I had sudden symptoms while backpacking in Italy: frequency, minimal output, painful spasms, incontinence, and burning. With limited medical options available I stopped by a pharmacy. They found someone who spoke English and she sold me Monuril Adulti 3 g. She told me to drink one packet that afternoon and one the next morning. I was skeptical since I was familiar with the 7 day antibiotic regiment but my options were limited and I was suffering. Within 24 hours my symptoms were gone. It's been 2 weeks and no indication of recurrence. I'm just now looking this medication up online and see that you should only take one dose but I don't remember experiencing any of the listed side effects. I'm wondering why this isn't used in the USA... so simple, inexpensive, and seemingly effective within very short period. WebMD says not to take more than 1 dose which is a concern but I'm so thankful to the Italian pharmacist who provided a means to get rid of the painful spasms and incontinence I was experiencing.Read More Read Less

I was in France and got a UTI. When I get these they are fast and severe. I had always been given meds. like Cypro which make me sick to my stomach for hours. I didn't believe this 1 sachet would work. I took one dose and was completely free of symptoms within 2 hours. I spent another 2 weeks traveling without any re-occurrence. I will be asking my doctors why they are not prescribing this. This medication was so effective for me that I took a present to the pharmacist who recommended it. Talk to your doctor and give it a try.Read More Read Less

My mother is 97 years old and in excellent health (mentally as well as physically), but she has been plagued by urinary tract infections. Her regular doctor kept giving her Cipro which would only work for awhile. This summer she came to visit me, got a urinary tract infection, took her to a local doctor, and it was a nurse practitioner who suggested Monurol. I couldn't believe that all my mother had to do was drink the medication once (instead of weeks of pills). I even called the pharmacy to make sure I wasn't misreading the directions! And it absolutely worked! It felt like a miracle to my mother - and me! I don't know why EVERY DOCTOR isn't prescribing Monurol. Is it that the pharmaceutical company (I noticed that it's made in Switzerland) isn't giving physicians enough "perks"?????Read More Read Less
