On Coumadin for 30 years in Sept. These reviews are AMAZING! People using words like; "annoyed" with the drug. Try stroke, now THAT is annoying. (Done it) "I can't eat what I want when I want to".... u can eat, it just takes planning. Try being a diabetic! Coumadin has saved my LIFE. It can save yours, or keep you from having a stroke or PE. Read the INSERT on your prescription. COUMADIN will NOT;...

I take coumaden and not the generic warfarin. My side effects are fatigue, waking up anxious, and hair loss. My main complaint is that it seems to have affected my personality, making me more worried, anxious, depressed. I take 7.5 mg per day, and have for over one year. I had a bad case of pulmonary embolisms, blood clots that went from left leg, through heart to lungs which started me of...

I had a DVT and double PE in April 2010. They couldn't figure out the reason so I was put on blood thinners for life. I've been on Wafarin since 4/2010 and am moving to Xarelto tomorrow (8/2013). In the 3.5 yrs on Wafarin the only real problem was keeping the level correct. I believe this was mostly my own fault for not eating consistently but what a pain! I did not experience any other noticeable side effects.

I was told I'd be on this medication for up to 6 months and possibly life. While taking this medication I was experiencing dizziness, nausea, headaches, weakness, and a few other things. Overall I told my doctor to find a different medication because I refuse to take this one.

My doctor prescribed coumadin after my operation, then he switched me to warfarin. I took the pill as prescribed and it did not work the way it suppose to. He then put me back on coumadin , i have been on the drug for 22 years and have no problems. 2011 i had another valve put in my heart it is a mitral valve my cardiac surgeon went with another mechanical valve. He felt that i was on coumadin already and that's why he used the mechanical valve. I am on coumadin and have no complaints about the drug. The only thing is that it cost so much,I have 2 mechanical valves, the aortic & mitral valve and the coumadin does the job. Read More Read Less

After taking the medication for almost 4 weeks and having the dosage lowered, I had to be rushed to the emergency room for internal bleeding. The doctor said I was within inches of death as I ad lost so much blood. I was fine on Monday and Tuesday was so weak I could not even make it to the bathroom to brush my teeth. Standing for even 5 seconds was impossible. The drug works, but my experience is apparently not uncommon. You have to check your levels constantly. It took 6 units of blood to get me back on my feet. My experience has been good, but since I will be finishing the 6 month treatment protocal, I have no idea about use of "pain meds" such as asperin. How long do I wait until I take these again?

the 2nd PE I had I started bleeding internally about a month after I left the hospital. I had emergency surgery and had to stay in the hospital for 8 days. It seems hard to get my levels correct and I have to keep going in for blood tests. It took 6 months every going every week for level checks. It is frustrating and once again this summer it has been hard to get the right level.

I have been taking Coumadin for 20 plus years because I've had a mechanical aortic valve that long. Overall it has been very effective, but you do have to remember to get regular INR checks each month. It also is a major factor in deciding what drugs you can take for other medical problems because it can be affected by them. I have a good physician who always checks when she prescribes something new. It is also important to tell EMT's, other doctors, etc. that you are taking coumadin. Over the counter cold medicines, etc. may also interact with the drug. Usually my monthly checks are on track, but if they do get out of kilter, it's because I've stopped eating as many salads or other vegetables as I normally do. Read More Read Less

side effects tend to change when the pharmacy changes pharmaceuticals. been on coumadin for 20 years. i'm careful around anything sharp, i don't shave with a razor. but i feel coumadin may cause swelling in my feet. i also take asthma treatments and fear coumadin and the breathing treatments may interact.

husband has been on it for the past 4 months for DVT that then went to PE. it took a great deal of time for the drs to regulate it to where he was at an acceptable level, it would run low then high then low then back up again, just recently has it become stable. there are a lot of side effects with this medication that are scary but with any meds there are a lot of side effects, you just have to be very careful and know what to look for. one in particular that we werent told is about headaches, if they last more than 24 hours and turn severe with pain or vomiting, shaking, blacking out...you need to go to the E.R. to be checked for brain bleed. my husband gets migraines and had a bad headache a few weeks ago with vomiting so that was scary to know we should have gone but didnt. now he is having issues with his legs hurting him and being cold all the time which is a result of your blood being thin but this doesnt mean its too thin just a reaction to it being thin but i would think it would still be necessary to let your provider know. i cant wait til he gets back to his oldself again. very hard to see him go through these ups and downs and not being able to make it better.Read More Read Less

Been on Coumadin or Warfarin since 1994. It made me feel weak and then started taking Creatine capsules ( twice a day w/ meals ) and felt stronger. I eat few veggies, mostly iceberg lettuce, about twice a week. I can eat corn and fennel. Don't like beets. Never deep green veggies, liquor, or aspirin. Once or twice a month I may take an Aleve tablet due to a bad headache. Don't eat any vitamin K foods 2 days prior to blood testing. Something that no one will tell you: FISH can also THIN your blood. I do not eat fish 2 days prior to blood testing. I like to have fish and salad w/ it, in order to maintain a safe blood level of PT. The doctor prescribes that I take 6mg a day for 6 days and on the seventh day to take 8mg. I go for blood testing 2 days after the 8mg, and so I'm usually fine with the results. One other thing that I do is not take the whole dosage at one time. I take 1/2 at 5 or 6PM, the other 1/2 at 9 or 10PM. I don't like to shock my system with all that poison in one shot. If I feel dizzy I eat a large salad, because I noticed that that means my blood is too thin. After 18 years, I've become very knowledgeable in this matter.Read More Read Less
