I had my Gallbladder removed in 1947 and for over twenty years I put up with the worst Diarrhea, No Doctor was able to help me until about 1970, When, luckily for me I found this Doctor who had experimented in his studies with Questran and prescribed it for me. After the first doses of 4g/day my problem was resolved, I got my life back. no more diarrhea for close to forty years, unless I forget to...

I have taken this medicine for nearly four months and I still have diarreha every day/several times a day. I am constantly losing weight. I lost 12 lbs from 8/11 to 8/21. My doctor prescribed this medicine along with Benefiber twice a day in hopes to bulk my stool. It has not worked and I have stopped taking the medicine. Matter of fact, I am having less diarreha.

I'm a 41 year old male, after having my gallbladder removed, I had Diarreah, at least once or twice a day depending on what I ate even safe things. Was miserable. Tried the questran and I can live again, its a great drug. Just like everybody says, its tastes like your eating chalk. Its Nasty, but it works. I heard welchol was just as good as questran and will probably get switched to that because its in pill form.

I have had my stomach removed and have excessive bile reflux as a result of the surgery. This medication was prescribed to bind the bile in the colon and prevent the reflux. It is not 100% e3ffective,but I am thankful for better sleeping hours. I also sit in an upright position to sleep to prevent the reflux. I take the dosage as prescribed only in the evening.

I suffered with chronic diarrhea for about 15 years after having my gallbladder out and then my doctor prescribed Questran. It literally changes your life no more having to always be near a bathroom and being unable to schedule any event right after eating. The taste isn't all that great but it is well worth it. This medicene gives you freedom to live your life again.

I have had chronic diarrhea after having my gall bladder removed in 2006. Had diarrhea after lunch and could not be out without finding a bathroom. After years I found a doctor who prescribed this medicine. It has worked and I take it in mid-morning with citrocel and have no problem with the taste. I still do not have a normal life though. The medicine makes me terribly constipated and I am down to a teaspoon every day. My stomach hurts and I have fears of traveling or doing normal shopping. Have to say life is better though than before I was on this medicine. Read More Read Less

HAVE HAD PROBLEMS SINCE GALL BLADDER REMOVED FOUR YEARS AGO. HAVE ONLY BEEN TAKING MEDICATION FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND ALREADY HAVE SEEN A MARKED IMPROVEMENT. I HAVE NOT HAD EVEN ONE DIARRHEA EPISODE SINCE I BEGAN TAKING THIS MEDICATION. THE CONSISTENCY LEAVES A LOT TO BE DESIRED. BUT IF THE LONG TERM USAGE GIVES ME THE RESULTS I HAVE GOTTEN THUS FAR, I WILL GLADLY CONTINUE USING IT. SINCE I HAVE SEVEN OTHER DAILY MEDICATIONS THAT I NORMALLY TAKE AT NIGHT, I TAKE THE QUESTRAN POWDER FIRST THING IN THE MORNING WITH ORANGE JUICE. I WOULD CERTAINLY RECOMMEND GIVING IT A TRY TO ANYONE WHO SUFFERS FROM CHRONIC DIARRHEA. Read More Read Less

I was placed on Questran after surgery for Crohn's disease 39 years ago. Still must take it everyday, but worth the trouble.

Started taking it after surgery for Chron's, had part of small intestine removed and small portions on ascending and descending colon. Can't miss a dose without frequent flights to the bathroom with diahrea. Taste horrible but it works wonders!

I always had stomach issues since the time I was a child, some due to foods reactions, some due to stress, at 31 I had to have my gallbladder removed. As anyone knows, having IBS or chronic diarreah is humilating and it stifels your life. I came to this site because my doctor wanted to put me on this medicine. She said it had changed people's lives. I read the reviews and decided....what the heck. My biggest fear was that it would trigger a reaction. I was really afraid when I saw it was orange flavored. I can't drink orange juice, unless I want to spend the next 24 hours in the bathroom. But the orange "flavor" did not effect me. This medicine has changed my life so much. I can not even begin to tell you. If you are living with chronic IBS, you really should try this. It will help. I needed to share my experience because I had resolved myself to the fact that I would suffer forever. This is not the same as immodium, where you might have several more episodes....This stops it! Try it.....you have nothing to lose. I take only 1 package a day. If I feel a little constipated, I don't take it on my day off when I can monitor things...but I am back on it the next day. I can't imagine not having it now.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication for chronic diarrhea associated with having my gall bladder out in july 2009. i now am able to enjoy going out to eat with my family and friends and do not have to worry about the bathrooms being near. i mix it with an orange drink and it takes the chalky taste away and you dont even know you are drinking it.

I have just started Questran and so far my stomach feels queasy. I haven't been running to the bathroom though which is very very nice! Only once today but I just started taking it. I am hoping that this is the medicine for me. I have been on so many things and am really left with no hope for a cure for what ever this is. I feel like I have to be close to home all of the time..and like the others always having to scout out the closest bathroom. I hate using public restrooms too!

I Too was prescribed this medication after having my gallbladder removed in 1996. I don't care that the taste is chalky it is a great trade off after all these years of being afraid to eat or drink anything, especially when it is a social situation! After so many years I actually feel normal again. What a wondeful change, I didn't think there was help; but there was in fact, life after gallbladder removal.

I have Crohn's disease along with Ankylosing Spondylitis. 5-ASA, Lomotil, and Imodium do not work for me. My rheumatologist had me on Humira and I was doing better but it stopped working for the AS. I can't take my Celebrex because of the Crohn's. My gastro tried Entocort previously but I have Bipolar Disorder and can't take steroids. I started taking this med last week and the Crohn's is still flaring badly and I am nauseous. I'm never nauseous. Can someone tell me if this passes or not? This is also extremely inconvenient because I take a bunch of medications and I have to space it out. Even mixing with juice is pretty gritty and I take powdered potassium - this is worse. Any feedback or ideas? My gastro doesn't know where to go next...Read More Read Less

I too take this for diarrhea after having my gallbladder removed. I hate the texture of it and have since made pills from it. I ordered empty 00 gelatin capsules and a capsule maker and make a bunch at once. 12 capsules are a dose but I've found I can take less depending on the type of food I'm planning on eating. I usually take 4-6 per meal. I have very few accidents now and know when I've missed a dose.

I had suffered with chronic diarrhea since having my gallbladder removed in my 20's. I am now in my 50's and over the years it just got progressively worse. It was to the point I had to schedule errands in between what I considered safe bathroom breaks. I found myself staying home as much as I could. I could not go out to eat with friends because I could not even drive a 10 minute drive to get home without making a mad dash to a bathroom. Anywhere I went, the first thing I looked for was the bathroom. It was becoming difficult to work. My co-worker happened to watch Mystery Diagnosis one night and came to work to tell me it sounded like what I had. I read the info on the internet and was surprised how the lady had the same symptoms as I did. I called my Dr. and asked if I could try this medication. It has truly given me my life back. I take it once in the morning and once at night. I mix it with apple juice. I wouldn't dream of ever stop taking it. Read More Read Less

I was also put on this after my gallbladder was removed (7 months later and after losing nearly 50lbs) they finally recommended this, after I tried many others. So I take it to control the amount of bile in my digestive tract. I started it out very slow (half dose) which I recommend because I didn't have a bowel movement for the first two weeks! The diarrhea stopped, but the nausea did not. I feel nauseas every time I take this medication. The gas was only an issue at first but has since gone away. The diarrhea will return if I skip 2 doses or more. I mix it with applesauce or occasionally orange flavored V8 Splash since this medication is orange flavored. It is a pain to take if you have a busy lifestyle and are on other prescriptions because this has to be taken by itself. I take it at night, but if I'm out really late I have to skip it. 3 weeks later and I still don't take the entire dose, it's easier to tolerate by starting it slowly. I'm still losing a lot weight even though the diarrhea is under control, I'm hoping it just needs more time to work. Read More Read Less

I have started taking Questran because taking a steroid for Multiple Myeloma has caused terrible diarrhea. It has worked but has caused me to have a terrible gas problem. Any suggestions as to what to take to control the gas? Over the counter medications for gas caused by foods does not work.

My husband was prescribed this medication a few years ago for chronic diarrhea and has not had diarrhea since! He finds that if he puts the medication with water in an empty jelly jar and then shakes it up instead of stirring it, it is much easier to drink.

My stomach dr. recommended this for my chronic diarrhea after having my gallbladder removed, which was ruining my life. I do have IBS and dumping syndrome though but it hasn't bothered me really since I've been taking this. It works for me, but I only take half a packet because that's all I can stand and it's still very effective at that dose. I'm thinking about using a little less of it because it does tend to make me blocked up when I take it every day. I did find a way to make it taste bearable, because it's really gritty, by mixing it with 4-6 oz. of juice. Trying to drink a full glass with the powder is hard for me so using the bare minimum of fluid worked even better because I was able to finish it faster and didn't have to dread drinking the entire cup.
