I started taking Lipitor about 5 years ago. It lowered my cholesterol from 260 to 156. I don't eat any red meat or pork, occasionally have chicken. This is primarily a genetic issue not diet/nutrition. I usually eat mediterranean-type food (veggies & pasta) and am 5' 9", weigh 162lbs. Both my father & grandfather had high cholesterol. I was not aware of any side effects but started experiencin...

Dr. prescribed 20 mg daily of generic version for high cholesterol. It brought cholesterol down. After taking for 5 months I developed severe shoulder pain and aches in arms. Stopped taking and after only one day feel much better. Will not take this again.

7 years ago at 53 I had a stroke. Cholesterol was 240 total and LDL 150. Started on Lipitor 40 mg at bedtime. Worked great as LDL is now 70. However, I have developed joint pain getting up in the morning or sitting for an extended period of time (watching a movie)although it dissipates with movement (walking around). Some feet swelling has also occurred but usually goes away in a couple of days. I can put up with these side effects if the drug keeps working. Reading comments about other statins it sounds like these issues are pretty common problems.Read More Read Less

After open heart bypass surgery 11 years ago, I was prescribed 40 mg of atorvastatin too be taken daily at night. Recently my cardiologist changed the prescription to 80 mg taken in the evening in an effort to increase my HDL and lower LDL. My knees, shoulders and knuckles on my hand ache all the time and my shoulder muscles seem to start hurting with very light exercise. Is there a better statin for me? And is there a memory loss issue with all statins?

I've been on Liptor since it came out years ago, and seen a consist lowering of blood levels of about 30-40%. Now it's a maintenance drug since other drugs I have to take increase cholesterol and triglycerides. At once point I had severe pain in my calfs; however, that was determined to be fluid build up due to a fib, a totally new condition. My experience with Lipitor is positive.

Lipitor was easy to take and did a great job of lowering my cholesterol and keeping my blood pressure where it should be. After approx 4 years of undesirable side effects, I stopped taking it I was taking 40mg per day and had loose stool or diarrhea to deal with constantly. Not good if you like to play golf. I would also get leg and feet cramps nearly every night. The side effects have gone away in just a matter of 4 days. I plan on staying off of it for a month and consult with my doctor about taking a 10 mg dose. My research on the web states that 5.3% of users experience the loose stool problem and the percentage is reduced to 2.7% when the dosage is cut in half. I guess I will find out.Read More Read Less

My doc put me on generic Lipitor because my 40mg Simvastatin wasn't keeping my LDP and total cholesterol down. Within a couple of months, I was achy and awakened in the night in pain. I didn't connect it with the drug because it was spring and I was gardening (hard work) again. But when I was getting weaker and weaker in my Pilates gym class, and the night aches were worse, I got suspicious. Mentioned it to some friends and EVERY ONE of them who had tried this drug said it caused them terrible problems, like not even being able to climb stairs. I stopped it immediately. It has taken two months for me to feel back to normal on my old drug, Simvastatin. Not sure where we're going from here, but it's not Lipitor! And both my doc and the pharmacist said Lipitor has the fewest side effects - they should read these reviews!Read More Read Less

My dr first prescribed this six months ago because my cholesterol was slightly elevated. I refused. I wanted to try and bring it down naturally. Unfortunately that didn't work so after my bloodwork last week I broke down and filled the prescription. I started taking it 2 days ago and now I have a terrible sore throat. My tonsils are very swollen and I have a painful dry mouth. I'm going to call the dr tomorrow and see if there is an alternative to this medication.

Overall Cholesterol level hit 205. Cardiologist recommended I give this a try. After 90 days my bad cholesterol was cut in half. Generic version at Walmart very inexpensive. No side effects that I can see at this time.

I was taking Lipitor for about 6 months. Developed joint pain but did not relate it to meds. One morning I was trying to get out of bed and could not stand. The pain was severely painful and I could not walk. I stopped taking Lipitor after conversation with other patients taking it. For 3 days I could not walk because of the pain. I will never take this pill again and have informed friends of my experience.

My Cholesterol and Triglycerides were slightly high and I was prescribed 40 mg of Lipitor based on a blood test taken 8 months prior. The first 20 days everything was fine then it went south quick. My left foot swelled up to twice its regular size and won't fit into any of my shoes, my leg also swelled up with occasional pains shooting from my ankle to my knee. Both feet feel like they are wrapped in sandpaper and are being sanded with every step. My left foot feels like someone is poking a knife through it and my toes begin to burn about three hours after I take the pill, though this goes away after a while.I start to feel a little better every night right before it is time to take the pill again and start the torture all over again.Read More Read Less

I was given Lipitor to replace Zocor & Zetia because of cost of Zetia. I had no side effects with these 2 medicines. I have been taking Lipitor for 2 and a half months. Now my shoulders ache all the time and I have a constant cough and sneezing attacks.
