I started taking Lipitor about 5 years ago. It lowered my cholesterol from 260 to 156. I don't eat any red meat or pork, occasionally have chicken. This is primarily a genetic issue not diet/nutrition. I usually eat mediterranean-type food (veggies & pasta) and am 5' 9", weigh 162lbs. Both my father & grandfather had high cholesterol. I was not aware of any side effects but started experiencin...

Took drug for about 7 years. Finally quit after reading other reports on side effects. My side effects included joint pain, foggy brain, failing memory, overall aches and pains, leg cramps, tiredness, and finally having trouble walking. Quit cold turkey after correlating my pains to others and all symptoms were gone within a week. Shared information with two friend on Lipitor and they quit and all their symptoms went away also within a week. To me the drug is poison to our systems. I told doctor I would rather have quality of life and maybe die younger, than pay price of lower cholesterol for more years living in misery.Read More Read Less

I've taken Brand Name Lipitor for 2.5 years its lowered my numbers a lot I only take 10MG of the drug. I refuse to take generic drugs and insurance companies have to pay for the name brand if that's what your doctor ordered for you as a patient. Lipitor also offered a 4 dollar card for a while, insurance pays X amount you pay 4 bucks and Lipitor pays part of the price of the drug this was when the gernic came out. Have your doctor put on your prescription LIPITOR only and your insurance company has to foot the bill. Its insurance they are not medical doctors treating you, they do not have the power to prescribe medications, only your doctor does. I find often generics do not work the same also and I hate it when somone changes the brand of a medication because you have to look out for problems. If somthing changes because the medication changed you should complain to the pharmacist. Its like Paying for a Ford and getting a ugo in its place. Generic drugs are not tested and often made in third world nations under bad or worse conditions, Test reports can and have been falsified on the results turned into the FDA When I started Lipitor it was the only drug, then came the generic, later we found out it was just as I said and reports turned into the FDA were fake results. The drug was made in India in a dirty factory with broken glass on some of the machines, there was a 60 Min report on this look it up. Same hold true with any generic, but some are good in fact the vast majority are ok, and The generic of Lipitor might be ok now that business was sold, but I'm not taking it. Lipitor works and it works good. I'd advise you to always read about your medications, and be informed. Don't just take it because the doctor says its ok. Its not always the case. We all have different body chemistry and drugs affect us differently. Lipitor might not do anything for somone else. It does leave you dazed and confused dizzy and or weak just weigh the risk and symptoms.Read More Read Less

Just started on this medication, at 10 mg./day, after having a tiny infarct. My lab values have never been that bad. I have Fibromyalgia and Restless leg syndrome so am used to chronic pain but feel the muscle pain in my legs has increased since starting this drug. Also, have increased urination with a all most constant feeling of pressure in my bladder. Also, having indigestion and muscle cramping of my calves, hands and feet. I am going back to my doctor and discuss this further as I do not think the benefits of me taking this drug out weigh these side effects. Very concerned about long term effects on my body to.Read More Read Less

Thank you to everyone's comments made on this site I have just realised whats wrong with me.I was given these tablets in hospital after a heart attack Atorvastatin. I'm 5 months down the track and having terrible pains in my hips If I sit for a little while I can hardly walk when I stand up and when I sleep pins and needles in my hips. So this disturbs my sleep as I have to keep moving. I woke up with a pain in my pubic bone area another morning and had a lump in the back of my leg near my calf I rubbed it thinking it was a cramp but it quickly went away with fear it could of been a clot,I called the ambulance. Blood in my mucus when I blow my nose. Swelling in my left wrist Feelings of not wanting to be here and crying. I feel like I had just become old over night. After many tests we will see what my GP has to say now. As many people have said I haven't got high cholesterol so why are we on this drug? Read More Read Less

I have taken Lipitor for several years and have experienced muscle pain, numbness in extremities, forgetfulness, etc. I only take 40 mgm daily but my Dr keeps trying to get me to take at least 80 mgm, but I have refused! I recently started taking Multaq for heart rate irregularities and lo and behold it increases the efficiency of absorbing Lipitor, The muscle pain, numbness etc has increased. I stopped the Lipitor 2 days ago. I'm not taking it any more. As for preventing heart attacks, I have had 2 heart attacks since starting to take Lipitor.Read More Read Less

I have PAD- peripheral artery disease in my legs. It started about 5 years ago. My doctor prescribed Simvastatin. Been taking since 2012. I have had terrible leg cramps with that med. New Doctor changed me over to Atorvastatin 3 weeks ago. Leg cramps are gone. I can walk again. Haven't gotten any side effects yet.

Can't sleep, leg spasms below the knees and in feet. Night time is the worst! Thought I was mentally going crazy, suicidal thoughts. Pancreas problems. Is this really HELPING?! I think only to lower cholesterol numbers. Question, does it matter how your numbers are if your liver fails or you contemplate suicide? Stopped taking meds, hoping I get my life back soon!

I was taking Pravastatin, but the hospital change me over to Lipitor when I was in for a heart attack and bypass surgery. I started to develop mysterious leg cramps and painful cramping in my hips. It became so severe that I could hardly walk half a block.Tests were done for Arterial disease that came up negative. I stopped Lipitor and after a few days my leg cramping almost disappeared. I just have to ask WHY did the doctors put me on this dangerous drug? I am sure that the drug company pushes this drug over others.Read More Read Less

This medication people need to realize the serious rare side affects! This drug took my husband's ability to walk! It took the Doctor a year to figure out why one day he could walk, then he started collapsing then suddenly couldn't stand at all. Like he was paralized from the waist down but he had feeling. Since coming off this drug he has gradually been regaining his ability to walk but because he is older it takes a long time. I will Warn everyone I can by screaming from the roof tops. This is a devil Drug worse then PrednisoneRead More Read Less

I did have high and I mean high cholesterol but my medication for treatment of high cholesterol has been cut in half. It is working great, and maybe I can get totally off Lipitor, only on 20 gm now. Taken at night since our body produce Cholesterol mostly at night, so it makes since for me that is when to take it. I have no physical or mental effect with Lipitor, but since my insurance company would charge me a lot more for a brand name. I have been using generics a lot more now, and have discovered that in some cases. The generic is not of the same quality, now please do not freak out and become all upset. This is just my own experience, and I do not agree with many of the drug companies, or specialists that say, all generics are A-Okay I do not agree. Anyway, no issues, no problems, this generic works great for me, but I am always on alert. God Bless. Read More Read Less

Have tried a statin in the past years ago and could not take because of muscle related problems but after years of being told I have high cholesterol, I decided to try them again. I started out with .5 mg which seemed okay but soon got bumped up to .40 mg. Now I'm having trouble with tremors, spelling, headaches, fatigue, stomach sickness, and muscles pulling when doing nothing. I have just stopped the Lipitor and will never take a statin again. I'm 60 and female.

This drug is terrible, The Dr. gave 40 mg at the beginning, but lower just a little my numbers, they were 220 total cholesterol and 180 triglicerides, so gave me 80 mg. 1 year later i developed pre diabetes, 2 later diabetes, my numbers had reduced a lot, I have been 9 years on the drug, and I have suffered from dizziness, weakness, stomach ache, lots of infections, my muscle are almost gone, my memory too, no concentration, and my legs arms hands and feet muscles are like ripping off of pain, cramps every night, constipation, so I talk to the Dr. several times, I have been off and on on atorsvastatin the generic version, but 2 months ago, I stop the drug, I had some relief on the muscle pain, but my hands are already damaged, I will not take any statin anymore.Read More Read Less

I started taking 10 mg Lipitor daily for several weeks when I started having severe leg cramps and tightness in my quadraceps, hamstrings and calves. One night a charlie horse woke me up out of a deep sleep. I figured it was the Lipitor, so I dropped the dose in half. Still no relief. Then started taking half a tablet every other day. No relief. Called the doctor who recommended I go off it for several days then try to restart. I did as he recommended and there was still no relief. At this point I am off it altogether, but the pharmacist tells me that these symptoms may last up to a month after stopping the Lipitor. I am having to find a healthy balance between sitting, walking and laying with my legs up completely. If I sit for longer than 1/2 hour, when I stand up, I'm like an old woman. But I also can't walk or stand on them for more than 10 minutes! There's no happy or comfortable medium. Time I suppose to go in for some lab work to see if there's any liver damage that I keep reading about. I will never take this stuff again. Am praying there is no long term muscle damage. This is not living- it's misery! Read More Read Less
