I started taking 10 mg Lipitor daily for several weeks when I started having severe leg cramps and tightness in my quadraceps, hamstrings and calves. One night a charlie horse woke me up out of a deep sleep. I figured it was the Lipitor, so I dropped the dose in half. Still no relief. Then started taking half a tablet every other day. No relief. Dr. prescribed 20 mg daily of generic version for high cholesterol. It brought cholesterol down. After taking for 5 months I developed severe shoulder pain and aches in arms. Stopped taking and after only one day feel much better. Will not take this again.

After open heart bypass surgery 11 years ago, I was prescribed 40 mg of atorvastatin too be taken daily at night. Recently my cardiologist changed the prescription to 80 mg taken in the evening in an effort to increase my HDL and lower LDL. Lipitor was easy to take and did a great job of lowering my cholesterol and keeping my blood pressure where it should be. After approx 4 years of undesirable side effects, I stopped taking it I was taking 40mg per day and had loose stool or diarrhea to deal with constantly. Not good if you like to play golf.
