I am writing this review because before going on Kariva, I almost asked my doctor to switch me based on the reviews I read on this website and others. Well let me say, five months in and I am VERY happy with Kariva! I had some headaches, appetite changes, and mood swings the first couple of months. Since then, my acne has cleared up, I have not gained weight, my periods are shorter. My pharmacy f...

I don't use this medication for birth control, I use it for the price (which can't be beat). But I do not like it. I have increased cramp, moodiness, and longer, heavier periods. I would not recomend it to anyone. In fact I just finished this set of pills and did not order any more.

I find that this bc is easy to use and it does work. However, I have mild side effects that occur really in the first week of taking the active pills. I find that I'm really emotionally sensitive and react to the smallest triggers. I also become very nauseated on the first day of taking the hormone pill and feel slightly sick the first week after. The side effects do subside and are usually pretty mild.

I was originally on Yasmin, which caused me to have irregular periods. Then I took Kariva and was so happy. I didn't have any of the major side effects. Then my pharmacy changed me to Azurette, which is horrible. My cramps are worse. I'm having breakthrough bleeding for the first time ever. I wish I could go back on Kariva.

Although my skin is clear and I am not pregnant, I have been having headaches and extreme mood swings daily. I also have gained weight, and feel very tired all the time. I have a decreased desire for sex and frankly feel too tired even if I did want too!

I was on Kariva for about 3 years before I stopped using it to get pregnant. During these 3 years, I went through major anxiety and mood swings. My doctor did not suggest that the BC could be causing these effects on me. I went through anxiety medications and therapy to cope with the effects. I never thought that this BC could have been causing these effects. After having my child, I was put back on Kariva and did some research on it. I noticed that some women were experiencing anxiety and very bad mood swings. I decided to give it a try again anyways. I was on it for a month and the anxiety came back and the mood swings were unbearable. So, I would not recommend this BC for anyone. I have stopped using it and am back to my old self again. I just wished that I would have known that Kariva was causing these effects to me 3 years ago. Life would have been easier and I would have saved a lot of money!Read More Read Less

I've always had problems with other bc pills.terrible side effects. I went through i think 5 different kinds. I finally found this one and have been on it for 3 years now. my period is lighter and last only a few days, minimal cramping. my skin looks better than it has in awhile. I still am extra sensitive and moody right before but i think thats just me.

I have been taking this for two months to help with perimenopause symptoms (mood swings, headaches, hot flashes, etc.) This medication has not changed a thing - the headaches are worse, I am very moody and cry the week prior to my period. This medication does not work for me.

I began taking Mircette until I learned Kariva was the generic for Mircette. I have learned through experience to take this medication at the same time every day for 21 days. I do not take the remaining pills in the pack. If I am 10 minutes late in taking Kariva, I will have breakthrough bleeding. I was concerned and asked the Dr. he mentioned it happened because there is enough medicine for 24 hours then its gone from your system. I have less migraines, hardly any cramping, and my period is very light and sometimes I do not have a period at all. I have been on Kariva for 7 years and wouldn't have it any other way. (Until I was told to take this at the same time every day I was having a lot of breakthrough bleeding.) Read More Read Less

I have been taking the medication for a while now. I love it. I had once switched to another b/c but was asked to be put back on Kariva. I love the fact that I have not experienced negative psychological side effects. I do have more pain when I am menstrating and my legs ache, but I can tough it out. Overall, I enjoy this medication and it does not effect my overall mood and emotions.

This pill gives me horrible nausea and sometimes vomiting. I swear it feels just like being pregnant but I'm not. I've only been on the medication for 6 days and I've lost 4 lbs because I can't eat anything. It's terrible. I am overweight and normally I would be happy about 4 lbs but I am getting weak and depressed. I would not recomend this to anyone.

I am really upset about using this birth control.First of all, it is my first time to use bc and I was happy to be on it so i dont have to worry about having any babies atleast for right now.. and about 2 weeks to a month into it I was having horrible mood swings. My poor boyfriend was afraid to even speak. If he sat in the chair the wrong way I would get so frustrated with him. NO JOKE. Secondly, I have gained probably 15lbs in the last 3 months. I stopped taking kariva because I plan on going back to the doctor to see about a shot. I also got headaches real bad.My boyfriend and I are doing alot better especially since I got off karivaRead More Read Less

I have had a good experience with this medication and I have tried many different types of birth control such as Depo-provera (the shot), seasonique (then was seasonelle), ortho-evra patch, and several different versions of ortho pills. I've had a light, short period, very little PMS, very little cramping. The longer you take it the better it works and the less symptoms I've had.

I have been on Kariva for 6 months. I was on Ortho-Tri Cyclen Lo before but due to price I switched to Kariva. Since I switched, I have experienced severe mood swings, start crying about nothing and can't seem to stop. I'm not finishing the pack I'm on because the mood swings are causing so many problems with my friends and family that I can't let these hormones rule my life anymore. For birth control, it has been effective. My period is no heavier or lighter than it used to be. I experience no more or fewer cramps than I used to. No weight gain or acne problems for me either. But because of the havoc the mood swings have caused on my personal life I can't stay on this medication any longer.Read More Read Less

this bcp has definitely cleared up my skin which i'm thrilled about. however, i also become more depressed more frequently than what is normal for me. additionally, i start crying for pretty much no reason at all. this is definitely a new development, and i think people might think that i'm a little bit crazy. but the clear skin and lack of babies make me want to stay on it.

I really like it because it's easy for me to use and it's my first time using birth control. My only concern is that this is my first period while takin it and so far it has lasted a week and some days..Is it ever going to stop and will every period be this way.

I have only been on Kariva for about a month but so far it has been great. Normally when I start my period each month I get really sick including vomiting (assuming this is from the cramps) , cramp a lot and basically can't get out of bed. Once I started this pill I have had a little bit of spotting, and have gained a little weight but no more than 5 pounds. When I got to the point that I was supposed to have my period it was a lot better I had very little cramping and discomfort, my period was lighter and shorter. I love this medication so far I haven't had problems. The only thing I don't like about it is that I have to take a pill everyday and sometimes it is hard to remember.Read More Read Less

I have been on Kariva for 4 months for ovarian cysts. I stopped taking it due to increased weigh gain. It has been over 2 months and I am still waiting for my period. While taking Kariva my cysts were under control now I am just waiting to see what happens next.

My doctor switched me to Kariva after I was having terrible mood swings on Ortho-Novum 7/7/7. I no longer had mood swings and felt like myself all month long. I got off it for a while and then my doctor put me on Necon 1/35. I am back to feeling like I have constant PMS. I am always irritable and on edge. I am definitely going to switch back to Kariva.

I have been on this med for a year now. I must say I will not be on it ever again. My doc like to keep me on ortho lo, but we switched to kariva due to price. Well, I think I will pay the extra money now for Ortho lo because Kariva gives me the worst cramps, I'm very moody and I have breakthrough bleeding. Plus my sex drive has completely disappeared. I would not recommend these pills to anyone.
