As with all medications, we must ask ourselves, does the benefits of taking a medication outweigh the risks. Chronic pain affects our daily living. Yes, our systems may become dependent on this medication as it is a narcotic; but if taken strictly as directed, it can improve our quality of living and every day life. Be warned, EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE! I am currently recovering from vicodin, and yes I took just what my doc prescribed and at the intervals he set. Any hydrocodone based pain killer will do it to you. I'll admit they work great, don't be fooled that it wont hook you if your on it over a couple weeks. Cronic pain or not, I wont go back to it.
