I had the outbreak on a Monday and I went that afternoon to get my abreva. I applied it right after I bought it and I can say it worked immediately. The next morning I could see the difference. If only we could have came up with this years ago and didnt have to use that stinky campho phenique...yuck

I asked my husband to pick up some cold sore medicine because I felt a coldsore coming on and I did not want it to become a full blown blister, very important as I had customer interviews for three hours each of two days the weekend coming up. I asked him to pick up the blistex viles that I had previously purchased because they worked effectively and I never got the blisters. Well the CVS pharma...

I have had fever blisters off and on for years. I am just now noticing if I eat a lot of chocolate (and it was just Valentine's day, so I DID!) that I will have a fever blister pretty soon after. (as well as having a lot of hot flashes, fever or being out in the sun and heat as well as times when I know my immune system is under attack!) Anyway, I know I am allergic to Carmex and that only makes them worse...so I thought this time I would try the Abreva. Bad idea. I think I am even more allergic to it than to Carmex. I got more blisters and my lip swelled at least 3 times its normal size!! Not fun. And to have paid so much for this little tube. ugh. If you have sensitive skin/lips I would take Lysine instead. That and ice for the swelling and now applying Oragel mouth sore gel seems to be the only thing that's working for it.Read More Read Less

Had a cold sore about the size of a penny in the corner of my mouth. In 24 hours Abreva had dried it up, mostly, and relieved the pain. Gone except for the discoloration of my skin in 4 days. I am still a little shocked. But $20.99 at was way too much. Found another store that has it for $15.99. Still a little much. But it worked for me and amazingly fast.

Not a all worth 20.00. Bought this product twice now and it didn't work either time. They also don't give you enough product to last past 3 days. It is a total rip off. Blistex still works the best. Do NOT buy this product.

I've used it in the pass simply on the basis of what it promises: "Fast" acting. I'd been using it for several years, and I really wasn't impressed with the results. It worked just the same as any other leading brand. Tried being vigilantly proactive at first site of a cold sores, but still had outbreaks. Oddly enough though, one day I was in a major pharmacy and opted for their brand, because of price. To my surprise it worked much faster, and no white residue. Even at very first sign of a sore, it slowed it and dried up, without it being obvious. Never using Abreva again.Read More Read Less

I used Abreva on a three day old break out, it did not help it at all and the next day another one popped up next to it. It seemed to somewhat speed up the one I caught early but, in my opinion, it's not worth 20$. I would recommend using only if you can catch it really early. I think I will try to see my Dr and get an anti viral like Zovirax (heard great results from using it).

I use Abreva as soon as I feel a tingle on my lip. It usually helps prevent the formation of a blister and my symptoms are gone completely in 3-4 days.

Well the CVS pharmacy person told him that Abreva would be the product to buy. He purchased it and brought it home. Against my better judgement I used the product as I had heard reviews and really didn't have time to go to the store. The next day my cold sore was a full blown blister and after using it throughout the day I developed two blisters instead of one which has never happened. I am very disappointed in your product and will never make a mistake of using it again. On top of wasting money on it, I had to be out in public looking not my best because of the severity of the outbreak this product produced. I am still using it just to keep my lip from drying out and bleeding. Disappointed and really upset about having a product which the pharmacy industry is pushing off to customers as a good product, in fact they are telling customers it is the best product for cold sores. I know this product is not the best and I can now prove it.Read More Read Less

the first time I used Abreva it seemed to reduce healing time from 7-10 to 4-7 days. But then less than a week later a nasty cold sore re-appeared at the same site as the previous one, as if abreva had suppressed, not eliminated it. Anyone else with the same experience?

I had a cold sore that had a scab that was growing. I was off for a few days, so not a big deal, but I was concerned it wasn’t going to stop growing (now larger than the diameter of a pencil eraser). Wow, was I surprised to see it almost disappear within a few hours after just a couple applications. A great product! Never again will I suffer through lip blisters and scabs!

If you use this product at the very first signs it stops the sore form getting worse. I absolutely love it. It's the closest thing to a cure. I no longer get the swollen uncontrollable outbreaks.

I would have never paid the high price for this product but I was going on a job interview and didn't want to have a cold sore as a first impression so I took a chance that it WOULD work. And to my surprise within 24 hrs it was not visible. I could still feel the tingling but it was not noticeable. The job interview fell through but I'm happy to have used a product that did what it claimed to do. This is a very rare problem for me but when it happens again I have plenty left in the tube.

Love this product! Used it right away and it stopped the cold sore from ever appearing. Wish that I knew about this years ago.

I have tried Abreva many many times, both at the first tingle and after the cold sore comes up. I have found that Abreva does not stop the cold sore from appearing, nor does it speed up healing any faster than taking L-Lysine and putting a topical camphor cream on it. I won't waste any more money on this product.

I was fed up with hellish sores on my face so next time I was prepared: had a tube at work and at home, so next time it started tingling I applied Abreva right away, and it's been 48 hours, not a single blister popped out! It still itches and tingles but winding down, but comparing to the last time I had sheer hell and ugliness all over my face I can't praise this thing enough. Worth it!!

I tried Abreva numerous times, with very, very little effect. I have now been getting a prescription cream called Denavir for years, which helps much more. My dr says that studies show it doesn't work, but try to tell that to me and both of my daughters. Getting it on there right away is key!! Also, keep in mind that you're only supposed to put it right on the cold sore. Not your entire lips. Also, make sure you wash your hands before applying, and then after. I know you're not "supposed" to do this, but honestly what has helped me if a blister has already formed, is I burn the end of a needle to sterilize first. I let it cool, I have a tissue ready, and I pierce the blister and carefully squeeze the liquid (loaded with virus! be careful!) out and catch it right away with the tissue. Then I immediately put the Denavir on it and rub it in really well. Repeat. Denavir is NOT cheap. However, it's much, much stronger than Abreva. Even if you did this method with Abreva, I'm guessing it would work better than otherwise. I always carry Denavir with me, you just never know when one will pop up! * Disclaimer: This is what's worked for me. Use at your own risk :) Read More Read Less
